14 Month Update - Nicks W&C Natural Double Stuffed, 67 Last, Medium Heel, 10” Boot
By popular demand, here is the 14 month update. Leather has darkened a bit, as well as taken on a nice patina. Looking forward to seeing more patina as the boots age. These boots are just used for daily life in NYC, and basically for just 6 months of the year..

Nicks MTO Urban Logger W&C Natural Double Stuffed Harness Unboxing & Initial Review
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Just received my 1st pair of Nicks Boots. After 19 weeks. I think this may be the 1st actual customer review of boots made with the new Nicks/Wickett & Craig Natural Double Stuffed Harness leather. Haven't worn them outside yet, but will add another video after break-in in a few months. #nicksreview www.nicksboots.com

    If you get a high arch you need the extra room in the toe, because as you wear them in, you foot will drop a bit, for lack of an explanation. It will settle, so don't worry about it. Also, you can have thicker socks if necessary. The leather is treated with waxes and oils built in. Its an excellent leather. Good choice and they look great.

    • @dz7385
      @dz7385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the insight. I just bought some thick socks this week and have been enjoying the different fit and feel of the boots. The arch feel remains fine as I never experienced any issues from the start. I’m only 1 month in to my daily wear of the boots so the break in is still in progress. The leather is darkening a bit and a patina is developing.

  • @jasonmiller9495

    What size do you wear in off the shelf boots? They have urban loggers on their ready to ship pages in a 10..5 D which is what is wear in Redwing Iron Rangers. I want to order them but I’m worried about the size

    • @dz7385
      @dz7385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      10D. I ordered the recommended size of going a 1/2 size down to 9.5D after calling Nicks Boots and speaking with 2 or 3 reps. When I first tried on the boots, the toe area actually appeared to be a slight bit long, making the boot look a bit odd. But after wearing them for a few weeks, the leather molded properly to my foot shape and now they look good. I am happy that I chose the celastic toe as well, since it does retain the sprung toe look of the 67 last. As for you, definitely call Nicks and see what they say. I'm not sure how Red Wing sizing compares with Nicks.

      Think I'll post an update vid in November. Right now been wearing the boots daily since only mid September. The double stuffed leather was the right choice for me as it is not creasing like the W&C english bridle does and it is taking the elements well. The leather is slowlly taking on a nice and darkening patina, which is why I chose the veg tan. Your boot spec choice sounds great. I really wonder what is the difference between the 55 and 67 lasts, except for the toe. Are their arch supports the same? I am not experiencing any discomfort from my 67 last at all. And I think I just have "normal" feet.

    Did you happen to get a look at or sample of the W&C Double Stuff Burgundy? I noticed on Nicks website under the W&C DS MTO page there is an option for the DS in Burgundy. I really wanted to get a Traveler or Moc Toe in color 8 cxl but it's out of stock and tbd on availability, I suppose. The W&C DS MTO looks like an even better option, however. I wonder if W&C would send a small teeny sample of the W&C DS B...

      @@EscapedTexan Took the plunge without actually seeing and touching the leather? Well I think you are still in good shape as I am happy with W&C double stuffed leather. As in my video, I do have some mahogany colored polish which I may start applying if I begin to want to see a more reddish hue. However, right now I am enjoying the slow patina forming so it is TBD if I will add any reddish hue. As for break in, I really only started wearing the boots on a daily basis in mid September as the weather finally became cool enough to do so. The boots are slowly becoming more comfortable but they were never uncomfortable from the start. I think you will find your boots to be the same as the break in should not be really severe or painful with the W&C leather and leather thickness.

    How do those sample leathers compare to DS leather of boot ? Which one is hard ? Which one is thick ? Which one do you like more ? Did you request samples or they just sent without being asked ? Thanks for that nice review. I ordered mine today and gave a long way to go

    • @dz7385
      @dz7385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      DS is more waxy to the touch. And after wearing them just for a few hours (still pretty hot weather in NYC), there doesn’t seem to be any detectable creasing. I think the W&C bridle Will crease more, according to the other TH-cam video reviews of that leather. The harder/drier one is bridle. The milled harness also feels dry and not firm and also thin. Samples directly from W&C are easily had by just calling them. Nick’s was reluctant to give samples, but I said I paid $700 and was waiting 5 months to get the boots, so I really need to see/feel/smell the leather I want. Unless you really know what you want, I do recommend getting leather samples. Nick’s should instruct their customer service people to send samples on request, and don’t be so reluctant to do so. Also, I don’t have any experience with their work leathers, so I can’t give an opinion. I only know that they are thicker than the heritage leathers.

  • @Droog.28
    @Droog.28 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a heads up. The milled English Bridle leather is not embossed or faux texture. It is a finishing process. I quote from W&C "These sides start out the same as our traditional english bridle leather, but once they're finished and dry we tumble them in a drum. The process stretches and plumps the fibres causing the leather to soften and pebble. The pebbling will appear larger in areas where the fibres are loose, such as the belly and neck, but smaller in the butt the backbone. The milling process takes roughly 24 hours depending on the type of leather". I have a pair of Urban Loggers in buck brown milled bridle leather. They are absolutely gorgeous. The leather is very pliable but not oily and has very slight pull up. Because of the pliability they are incredibly difficult to crease, which I like. Thanks for the review. Nice to see the Nicks double stuffed appearing in the wild.

      @@EscapedTexan Yep. Double stuffed is not milled. It is double stuffed. i.e. hot dipped in a special mix of oils, waxes and tallows - twice. Similar to the oiled Latigo but with a second dip.
