It's 10PM now. Getting a bit sleepy. Closed my eyes. For a second, I really felt in a mall somewhere, waiting for someone. Eerily good sound quality!

Going to Lo Bills with my grandparents, I'd get a bag of candies from the scoop area, then get some quarters from grandpa to play the claw machine. It said 50 cents, but only needed 1 quarter. My mom was a pro, and she taught me. I'd always leave with at least 2 plushes, and I'd give them away to people. Brought people a smile, and me as well. Now I'm 33, and getting back into writing. There's still magic out there, if you look hard enough.

Finally! Someone else who does this kind of video. I'll promote this on my channel I've actually been looking into doing this song. All it needs is a faint vending machine noise. It adds so much depth and levels out the audio when the bass supercrunches.

This takes me back to the six or so years I worked nights stocking shelves at ShopRite. Sundays would always be a big rush in the morning and afternoon, but would clear out by 5pm. From then to closing the store would be totally dead. The rush cleared stock out but you still had to look busy. A lot of Sunday nights of my young life were spent killing time with my coworkers like that. The music would echo like this in the empty store, you would feel the fatigue set in as you start to focus on going home. It occupies a corner of my mind that I can still smell, hear, and feel. Such a small thing that seems so ethereal now

Craziest thing just happened last night. At the grocery store, late, only one in the aisle and this exact song came on. No joke, this is absolutely spot on and gave me some weird flashback .

I'm sure the neighbor was binge watching lyric videos to sad songs from the late 2000s with white font and a dark background.

Going to the grocery store to get some ice cream with your uncle after the last day of school before summer vacation. You picked cookie dough, he got some drumsticks, you didn’t like peanuts back then so you didn’t want any of them. You grab some sodas too, your uncle grabs a couple of monsters for himself. You go to the checkout and your uncle talks to one of his buddies who’s working the register as he’s ringing up your stuff. You go home and he puts the Simpsons, your mom would prefer that you watch something else but doesn’t stop you two. It’s a good day

Drunk on laughter and the delirium that can only come from being up after midnight, we frolicked through the endless aisles of Kroger. Our cheeks were flushed with youth and sugar, the fluorescent lights giving the store a dreamlike quality. The muted chords of “Everybody Wants To Rule the World '' was our personal theme song, because why shouldn’t we be the main characters of the very earth itself? We stumbled and sprinted, seizing any and every snack the shelves had to offer. We take turns careening down the aisles in shopping carts. We drink in every detail, savoring the joy and recklessness that comes with youth while pushing away the bittersweet knowledge that we will never again be exactly as we are in this moment.

This beings out a lot of emotions in me. I didn't grow up in the 90 or 80s, but places around where I live didn't start remodelling until lately. This reminds me of when I was a little kid just walking through a grocery store with my grandpa and goofing around.

Working Publix at night

Took me back to when I used to work at a grocery store for like 3 years all through high school, and this among like 7 other tracks would play over the speakers for hours 😂

An old food lion used to look exactly like this before it was replaced by an Ollie’s. It always played my favorite songs and my dad used to play 80’s songs while I played outside, even though it was in the mid 2010’s I swear I heard this song play one time. Me, my mom, and my brother would all go shopping after school or in the summer. Listening to this song and looking at the image brings me back to this place that once brought me boredom, now wishing that I could go back and experience going to that store again.

I remembered this video last weekend when I heard this song while shopping at 7am in my empty local grocery store lol

I'm a vendor for various grocery stores, seeing this picture and hearing this song takes me back to delivering potato chips to these smaller independent stores, often with very dated interiors and intercom systems. Theres something so tranqualizing about being time warped like this on a slow afternoon with no other customers in the store
