Hello, It was the only issue my deck had, once I replaced that resistor it fixed the issue. I think others have reported the same issue so hopefully this is your problem, it's very easy to check with a multimeter and fix.

We don't have it anymore, I repaired it and sold it as part of this video. It was an ok unit, we had it for many years, the amp is in one of the speakers. If I recall most of the functions are available on the remote. I have a Denon mini system which I picked up cheap in a charity shop and a couple of small Qacoustic 3010 speakers I use in my office and it's a better system than the Sony but did retail at considerably more money when new.

They are qacoustics 3010, just some small speakers I have in my office. My main system runs some old Castle Harlech floor standing speakers

Like the lens needs replacing if it spins up but doesn't recognise the disk. They are cheap and easy to replace.

Cheers, the choke was ruined, I replaced the whole tube and choke from one I got out of an Old Philips TV. The monitor has gone now though. Took up too much space.

I remember the power for the unit comes from one of the speakers, you need the speaker with the power supply inside, without it you cannot power the main unit. I very much doubt any parts are available for this after more than 20 years unfortunately.

Its ok for a boombox, the cassette deck was typical boombox type stuff and not a patch on a quality seperates deck from the likes of technics, JVC, or Denon but ok for playing back pre-recorded tapes.

Make sure polarity is correct, I think these units are centre negative, i.e. the negative is on the centre pin of the plug, not like most equipment these days which is centre positive. If you have reversed the polarity you may have damaged a a few components in the unit.

I no longer own it but that kind of thing is not at all unusual when plugging in the power cord and power enters the unit. I wouldn't be concerned.

Thanks there are some good routes in Morocco. we are back there in early October but haven't planned the route yet. Hopefully we can get to marzouga this year, we tried last year but after getting lost we kind of ran out of time time and fuel.

I don't have it anymore unfortunately, it was an early 1990s unit from what I remember, the build was typical early 1990s with lots of plastic. I never found a service manual for it.

@@roasthunter Your model the 727 is from 1993, my model 737 I don't know. There is no info anywhere. There are no manuals, nothing. No remote controls, nothing, it really sucks not being able to find anything on the internet.

Likely laser has died, very cheap and easy to replace.

You would really need a circuit diagram and oscilloscope to trace the signal path and find out where it stops and therefore which component has failed.

I have a service manual coming maybe that will help.

@@tennesseetraveler7750 yeah trace the playback signal path from the head through the circuit, at some point it will drop out, could be something simple like a dry solder joint. Does it record in both channels?

@@roasthunter Records only on right channel. One of the AN7370K IC‘s is running warmer than the other one. That could be the problem.

@@tennesseetraveler7750 it sounds a bit likely candidate if there are two identical chips one for each channel and one is hot and the other not

i5-3330 it's a very modest 3rd gen i5 clocked at 3.0Ghz. Good pairing for this card.

720p with medium if I recall. Its a Sapphire Nitro RX460 4GB. Runs really well, can support 1080p too the monitor I was using it with didn't support 1080p.

The belt is pretty easy to change, I have changed it on this unit. It works and sounds great.

I had to replace the choke on the back of the tube! It works again now.

@@punk2699 Works ok for me, are you sure your cassette doesn't have the record protect tab broken off in which case you won't be able to record.

I've been to Morocco 4 times now, last time was in Oct 2019, we had yamaha tenere this time, they were shit and although mh5 was on the itinerary as a possible we decided against it this year. I wouldn't attempt it on a big heavy bike. In this video we were on honda tr250 tornados and it was still quite hard work in the heat. What biked are you taking?

@@roasthunter thanks! I'm gonna ride my Husqvarna 701 Enduro LR, and my mate will ride his Yamaha Tenere 700. What do you think, too heavy?

@@mototripping6534 we hired the tenere locally so werent the best condition e.g. My chain broke on the last day, even in good condition in not sure I'd want to be riding a 200kg plus bike up mh5.

@@roasthunter I agree, 200 kg plus sounds too much, but it's not me who's gonna ride it😆 and I know it has been ridden on an 1190 and 1200gsa, so we might give it a shot. The MH5 is quite late on our itinerary, so we've got plenty of time to change our minds before that time😅 do you have any other roads or pistes to recommend?

@@mototripping6534Mh5 was OK on these relatively light bikes but was still hard work. I'll look back on what weve done and put some suggestions up. We did a great over atlas road last time, can't think what it was called off top of my head, we did much less off road because the bikes were just too heavy. Went down near the Algerian border and had some fun trying to get through army check points without the right paperwork. At one point a guard came out and took our details on his official note book, this was a childs drawing book which was amusing, he had to phone the colonel to let us through, thankfully we were permitted otherwise it was hours of hard riding back.

Thanks for the comment, the video doesn't make it look too bad but in the heat it was harder than it looks. The locals said don't go that way you can't get through, we went anyway and it was definately the hardest route we've done in 3 times to Maroc. In the wet and with a heavy bike it would be a nightmare probably.

@@roasthunter ...looked bad enough to me. I was there six weeks ago on a Himalayan and loved some tracks, before I bought Chris's book, but yours looks like ...mmm...not for me...I'll listen to the locals, then ;-)

​@@3niknicholson Yeah its a great place to get out in the open and explore. I've been 3 times and going again in Oct, most of the tracks in Chris's book are much easier than MH5. We normally fly in to Marrakesh, hire the bikes and head out for a week on a pre-planned route and find a place to stay each day. We got quite far south last year down to TanTan, they don't see many tourists down that way. I hate anything with sand though, 1st year had some tough times in sand going from Foum Zguid near Mhamid.

@@roasthunterme too, possibly in Oct. I live near Granada in Spain so it's nearby. I was thinking about knocking out a few of Chris's tracks then going down to south Senegal after. The latter should be just tarmac driving. I had a laugh between Merzouga, Sidi Ali and Zagora on the piste. Couldn't have done the first half without Hamid, my guide on his midget Chinese bike (which was much better in the soft sand than the Himmie). I started enjoying the sand (when it wasn't too deep) on my 2nd day.

@@3niknicholson Did you make it? I got back last week. We had Yahama Tenere which in all frankness weren't very good, bit better on the road but heavy for anything technical, we avoided MH5 this time. My chain broke on the last day which was annoying and had an 80km tow to Marrakech. Due to bike issues we didn't make it Merzouga like we planned, Foum Zguid to Tagounite and then up to Zagora, we took a slightly more northerly route on the piste to avoid the sand this time. The ride into Tagounite was good though until we stopped and found more punctures, my mates bike had a damaged front tyre and kept wearing through the inner tube, must have fixed it 10 times.

I used an HDMI to VGA convertor and then made a VGA to Scart cable. Have a look here for the VGA to scart www.geocities.ws/podernixie/htpc/cables-en.html although I haven't found it that reliable and sometimes the colours go a bit funny like whites becoming yellow. For the 5v I used a USB cable and chopped the plug off. I think people sell these cables ready made on ebay for about £20. Once all that was done I needed to fiddle with scaling in retroarch as the screen was all compressed in games, I think I just disabled it.
