Tuscany Trip May/June 2024
Yeehaw! We back! We were stuck in Ireland (not the worst place to be either) for 7-8 months, and this was our first trip back. We would holiday for a week, then work for a week.
Places of note:
- The Devil's Bridge: maps.app.goo.gl/xxbRubnFMGAP5RGu8
- The bridge at Fornoli: maps.app.goo.gl/2YZrHwwEyCurxq9n8
- Bagni di Lucca parking: maps.app.goo.gl/rypSLyMFDPin4oHM6
- Bagni di Lucca dining - Ristorante del Sonno - the pasta dishes were much better than I thought they'd be: maps.app.goo.gl/i1QwHVbuwwqfhzA17
- Certaldo parking (by the old town) - take the roundabout route that takes you through the suburbs - do not take the route through the ZTL or you'll be fined! - maps.app.goo.gl/epmxZDF21cify2Vr5
- Certaldo's Funicular from the new town: maps.app.goo.gl/jFYD9WG4bDsQS2nP6
- Certaldo's Funicular from the old town: maps.app.goo.gl/xYq15mozkkjmjXzP6
- Certaldo - nice bar with garden - Osteria del Vicario: maps.app.goo.gl/mvZ11AoiB8kxzKMb7
- Castagneto Carducci parking: maps.app.goo.gl/4XLExmFoCcLHE3J78
- Castagneto Carducci dining - the BEST pasta and meat dishes I had this trip - Risto-Macelleria San Martino: maps.app.goo.gl/cHm5erSeQVb2M78B9
- Viareggio parking - not too close to the promenade, so walking involved - maps.app.goo.gl/vJy9HThe3rFdwTUf7
- Viareggio Bar and Bookshop: maps.app.goo.gl/raEfTZWpEfKa12Bx6
- Pietrasanta parking: park, then find the underpass under the railway - maps.app.goo.gl/PxvT2x8K52jMwkaXA
- Buti parking: maps.app.goo.gl/8po1iVjmTQa5u7588
- Quercinella parking: Bit of a deadly left-hand turn out of it, though! maps.app.goo.gl/T3uz1fZxzrSFVEAD7
- Quercinella dining - Lentisco: maps.app.goo.gl/M6jGgH1yoYWAgN5b8
- Rosignano Marittimo parking (here, or the adjoining sports ground carpark): maps.app.goo.gl/w8H4VM6wV5x6tMS66

The Weekend in Venice for a special birthday
มุมมอง 602 หลายเดือนก่อน
Niamh had a big birthday, so we packed ourselves off to Venice for a long weekend. I decided to put this into one super-blog, rather than split it up. I hope you enjoy the format. Admittedly, I have a little to learn about being able to speak to the camera as a 'friend', but I'll get there. Below is a list of facilities and restaurants we visited! October 2023 in Tuscany - Part 4 - We close the season with the amazing Cortona
มุมมอง 2087 หลายเดือนก่อน
The end was nigh! We and our friend took off to Cortona. What an amazing town it is. Tons of U.S. expats if you're from there and thinking of a place to move in Tuscany. After exploring there, we hit Passignano sul Trasimeno and had a lakeside stroll. I will continue to post with content from Ireland if I deem it interesting enough, but for now, it's farewell to Italy for 5 months! Parking in C...
October 2023 in Tuscany - Part 3 - Markets! Ferraris! Pink Floyd! Truffles! Cheese Racing!
มุมมอง 467 หลายเดือนก่อน
Volterra is still quite a busy place in October. There are tons of markets... Truffles and fresh porcini are in abundance.. this year we had a tribute act to Pink Floyd playing for the Ugandan Emergency Charity. All in all, October was a blast - a little chillier, but we still had some days with 20 degrees! BIS Restaurant in Colle di Val d'Elsa: www.osteriabis.it/comingsoon Map images by Google...
October 2023 in Tuscany - Part 2 - A rainy day in Val d'Orcia
มุมมอง 1178 หลายเดือนก่อน
The microphones are still killing me in this video. Fortunately, only the San Quirico d'Orcia footage suffers. We also went to Bagno Vignoni and Montalcino and these have sound. Sadly, the rain didn't really let up, but the towns had a mood all their own in the poorer weather. We do, however, look forward to returning. Microphones are destined to be a disaster for me. On a couple of occasions this holiday, they either weren't turned on properly, or I inadvertently reduced gain or muted them. No sound for Palaia, and no sound for San Quirico d'Orcia in an upcoming video. These are just some highlights of the first few days we had on our trip in October. September in Tuscany Part 3 - Red Night in Volterra, Fireworks, a trip to Mensano

Yet another few days, starting with another of Volterra's premium nights to visit: Red Night. It's an arts night were installations are on display, owners of private palazzi open their doors, museums are free to enter and musical acts can be found throughout the town - all topped off with a huge fireworks display! A Surprise August Bank Holiday weekend away in Tuscany!

Niamh had had enough of the Irish weather in July, and so booked us for a weekend away (fully day Friday, Saturday Sunday)! Yes, I misspelled 'medieval' in the thumbnail, No I am not going to re-render and re-upload! We hadn't been to Arezzo before, and decided to give it a bash. What is the whining about the entry fee! It’s a VERY historical building that need funds to preserve it for future generations. For the same price you can have a fish and chips and a beer that will be down the drain in 24 hours 😂. Get a grip.

I didn’t have a problem paying *a* fee, but found it very high, that’s all, and have heard others similarly complain about NT attractions. Also, thanks for the ‘VERY’, as I had assumed it was ‘NORMALLY’ historical and now feel silly.
