Capturing Fall Colors in Early Winter, Washington State
มุมมอง 1.4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Many of our natural destinations, whether reached by road or trail, culminate in iconic vantage points where a classic photograph lays itself out for you. A common pitfall for outdoor photographers is to capture the iconic scene and call it a day. In this video, I talk about going beyond the iconic shot and instead working a scene so as to find unique compositions that are truly your own. Thank...

Hey Scott! Awesome work! I’ve been following you on instagram for years so good to see you come to TH-cam. Hey I live in the Seattle area and wondering where you took the bird photos especially the owl. Please let me know
Very slight favor to the color shot. Brings out the detail. B/W is much more somber.
Beautifil and I loved the bear photo, because he was walking with a purpose around amazing scenery 😍
Awesome work!
You're content is breathtakingly amazing, I wish you lots more followers and views in 2025, you deserve it!
Were the opening cloud shots from Mt Erie? Never been but it appears to be a must.
Dan and I wonder what magical imagery that you could do in the Columbia Gorge.
Beautiful..
Great photos! Thanks for making this!!
Fantastic images! Where is the overlook located where you captured the first images with the clouds? Amazing!
Just found you - subscribed. Love your photographic style - looking forward to more content! Merry Christmas.
That was a great video and thanks for sharing! 😀👍
Loved this Scott! Beautiful job! 👏🏻👍🏻
First time viewer, lovely work and storytelling of an area I’m not too familiar with. Plan on watching more to get educated and ultimately plan a photographic/hiking trek that way soon. Impressive style to your work, happy holidays to you.
Excellent 👌👍, Gorgeous 🥰🥰🥰❤❤😂
Great stuff .. youtube just presented this video .. and i was in awe .. great storytelling with beautiful imagery
4:06 how is this 400mm?
It’s not. It’s a typo.
Excellent job and video. So Beautiful. I enjoyed watching your adventure, thank you for sharing.
New here, great work keep it up
Thank you. Beautiful and relaxing.
Thanks for watching!
What a delightful video, Scott! Great work bud!
Thank you! appreciate that
Love it! Well made video - from cinematography, to pacing, to sound design. Watched the whole thing!
Really appreciate that great feedback. Thanks for watching!
Well done Scott! This was a great video! My wife and I just moved up to the Tacoma area, and I'm very excited to explore this state!
Welcome! That's awesome. Thanks for watching and happy holidays!
Incredible!!!
Thank you! It is an incredible area and landscape
Great photos of one my favorite parts of Washington. You have inspired me to get out soon to Rockport to see the annual winter gathering of eagles and return to home via Skagit Valley and maybe down into Whidbey via Deception Pass. Two questions, what highway/road did follow up the Skagit river and did you use any filters (like a CPL) in your exposures? I love the final edits that you made.
Thanks for watching Don! Hope you can get out there! I drone HW20 mostly. And yes, generally using a CP for most shots, especially those with water in the frame. Hope that helps! Cheers
Very well done! This is my home area, and you made me love it even more.
That means a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice video. Beautiful
Thank you!
As a Skagit local who often feels like I’ve got nothing to point my camera at, thanks for reminding me that there is still great beauty in the familiar. And also, what the heck?! I’ve spent countless hours and days at Deception Pass and never seen otters! Lucked out on that one.
Thanks Eric! Appreciate you watching and commenting. And right?! I think it's safe to say I got lucky with those otters haha.
Gorgeous! Thanks for taking us along in a wonderful and spectacular journey!
Thanks very much!
Gorgeous spot! Definitely need to make a trip up there! Amazing photos, Scott 👏
Thank you!
Great video, amazing pictures 🎉
Thanks for watching!
That bald eagle pic is insane!
They were a beautiful pair up in that tree!
Beatiful views..
Thank you!
Nice! Which polarizer did you use?
I generally have polarpro CPs, but I think this one was a B+W brand one, given how its a 72mm thread
@ I haven’t incorporated CPs in my photography yet, eager to try after watching your demo. Thanks Scott!
Hi Scott. I just wanted to tell you how excited I am to find your channel. Great to see some beautiful images from my home state. In a time when so many photographers are posting images from beautiful locations like Iceland or New Zealand it inspires me to get out closer to home. Great work and I look forward to seeing more incredible images.
So glad you enjoyed it, that's exactly what I'm trying to do! Thanks for taking time to watch and share this. Cheers!
Truly beautiful 🤩
Thanks very much!
Great photos and a re-introduction (in my case) to the Skagit River area. A true gem! For my taste, my favorite image was the wide angle island at 3:52. Great light, simple and portrait-like.
Thanks John! Appreciate you watching and sharing that. Happy holidays!
Epic day!
Truly was!
Beautiful work. Your imagery makes me miss my old stomping grounds. I love how you are connecting information about the landscape, the watershed, and the connection to the sea. It’s a magical place.
Thanks so much for watching, that great feedback, and kind words!
Scott, great video. New to the channel, but quickly subscribed. Just moved from Port Angeles, so it was nice to see familiar scenes, especially Deception Pass! We'll keep "watching over your shoulder" from Philipsburg, MT. Have a safe holiday. Keep them pics coming!
Hope the move went well, and yes, happy to keep sharing all things PNW! Thanks for the kind words, and happy holidays to you as well
Do you carry a pistol when you’re out deep in the woods or mountains?
I don't! Never felt the need
if I subscribe, will you keep making videos of actually going to take photos or are you gonna switch to a weekly "whats in my bag" "how to make money" "how to grow your IG" talkshows?
Just stumbled across your channel, and I love your style. I'm from Everett! Dying to know the trail you were on for that first set of shots with the inversion. Been looking for a spot for that closer to where I live and I've not seen a vantage point like that up route 20 yet (assuming that's the "entrance to the north cascades" you were referring to). Edit: never mind. I missed that you snuck it in later 😂 Every time I've been to that location the fog was so dense that I could barely see my hand - I've forgotten all about going back at this point.
Thanks, Dan! Definitely worth a visit, you never know what you'll see up there! Thanks for watching and the note
Yes indeed, a great video. Just the right length and the length of the cuts/segments were reqlly good. No coffee brewing or or ultra detailed gear bullshit.. Well done.
Thanks so much! It was a great day out there, and a fun video to put together. Happy holidays!
I was the photographer whom you met at the Diablo overlook! Nice meeting you and nice footage!
That's right!! It was nice to meet you too. The North Cascades are such an amazing place! Thanks for watching and the kind note
@ totally! 🤙🏻
would you be willing to show us a gear video im always curious?
Eventually, would love to share more about gear!
Awesome video and beautiful scenes, Scott! Mind blown by the owl about to land, wow!
Thanks! I was so happy to catch that owl landing. Thanks for taking the time to watch and share here :)
There are so many unique areas within your general area for sure. I still remember feeling in another world when visiting the Rampart lakes area. With such clear water held in the terraced rock with a clear view of the horizon the memories are still amazing.
The Rampart Lakes are such a special place - thanks for sharing your memories!
This is stunning scott
Thanks bud!
What an absolutely beautiful setting! The Pacific Northwest is so rich and scenery and wildlife. I love the mood of the fog! Really wonderful storytelling, and cinematography!
Thanks so much for watching ! means a lot
