Thank you for making this video! Do you have a video talking about how you paid back ur debt?
Is it easy to find friends to do stuff like this on your times off when in dentistry in Australia ?!
yes! Super easy to make friends in dental school who also want to travel
Hi Alannah, thanks for the video. I was just wondering if having an experience such as shadowing is a must in order to get into the university? And it may differ by the universities but do they mostly consider the grades or is it more like experience and doing good in the interview? Hoping to hear a reply back! Thank you
Hi! All universities are different in their requirements. In Australia I found that grades are highly considered over all else. Some Australian dental schools have an interview process where others do not. If I remember correctly, I only needed shadowing experience for my applications to Canadian and/or US schools. ☺️
I belive the real decision comes down to: 1) re-apply to canadian schools or 2) attend australian dental schools.
Oh wow Thats really cool I’m attending western right now and hope to be in your position in the future!
I loved it there back in 2003 Lovely video!
Very helpful thank you!!
I’ll be applying for Melbourne dental school mid next year. I appreciate your positive outlook on going abroad as it seems very daunting at the moment 🙏🏽
Interesting. I’m an Aussie living in Vancouver, Canada - I’d say Canada only has one season - winter! 😂 feels like the spring / fall only lasts for a few days or a week and then it goes into one extreme or the other - but summer still feels very mild to me here 😂
Haha I would actually agree with you in regards to Vancouver! But I am from Toronto, the weather is definitely very different there lol
Hey how many years would dentistry take to complete and like are you required to complete grad school?
Hi! This depends. If you go into a graduate dentistry program it takes 7-8 years to complete (i.e. you will complete minimum 3 years of a bachelors degree, usually 4 years, + 4 years of dental school). However, if you go into an undergraduate program it takes about 5 years to complete (these undergraduate dental programs are offered in Australia at certain schools!). Hope this helps!
hey actually i wanted to ask something can i contact you on insta?
Hi! Of course 😊
Was there a written exam and a practical exam you have to write to get licensed to practice in canada ?
Only a 2 part written exam! All multiple choice

Can dental hygienist in Canada practice in Australia?? If yes how? Please reply
How much would osap typically give you?
Typically they would give 10-15k per year, but I think it ranges based on your financial situation and tuition cost at the time etc. So that's just my experience with it. Hope that helps!
Hii Alannah, i m from india please make the video on topic how to get admition in dental school in australia
Do you get paid during residency?
Hii, I'm an undergrad student in florida and was interested in applying for dental school in Australia, what are the requirements to join because in my school there isn't a major related to dentistry, I only did the required classes to apply for dental school in the united states, but I want to know if it's possible ti head towards Australia
Hey Javier! You can find all of the pre-requisites for each dental school in Australia on OzTREKK's website: oztrekk.com/programs/dentistry/ I feel like most of the required courses for dental schools in the states will also apply to what you need for Australia :)

Hi I am going into grade 12 so say if i get a average of 90 in grade 12. Can I get into a dental school in Australia. Just curious
why did you choose dentistry in australia compare to canada ?
what undergraduate year were you in when you wrote the DAT?
Hi! I wrote my DAT during my 4th year of undergrad. But if I could go back I would have written it during my 3rd year so that in case I wanted to write it again, I would have the time in my 4th year to do so 😊
@@alannahanita-marie Thank you so much:) Once you graduate from dental school are you eligible to work in Canada right away? or is there another test ?
@@priyankarohra1483 You need to write the Canadian Dental Board Exam (called the NDEB), which everyone has to write, even students who study dentistry in Canada. But that's it, nothing extra which is really nice!
do you think to become a dental, you should be rich?

Hi Alannah I hope ur doing well! I am just wondering now that you're graduated how was the process of finding a job back here in Canada? Was it easy/hard and were the salaries any different from what you expected? I applied through OZtreKK today so I am just curious!
Hello! Thanks for your question. That is so exciting that you've applied, I hope you get in!! I am actually going through the process now getting a job. So far there are plenty of opportunities, but I am just starting the process so I can update you when I know more 😊 Income is what I expected/more, this all depends on how much you want to work and what procedures you want to focus on. Good luck with everything!

thank you so much for watching!
Awesome video Alannah! I know this is like 2 years late lol, but I just found this video and I have a couple questions! I find the timing of the application process really weird. So applications are due in july, and acceptances come out early september. You mentioned that you wear planning to take extra courses, so did you drop out of them because you got in? Also, did you have a lease signed cause you thought you where going to stay at school for another year? Because I am planning to do the same thing, apply but if I don't get in I would want to take 1 more year to improve grades etc...! But if I end up getting in I just dk what to do with the courses I signed up for lol thanks for the help :D
Hey Colbe! Now that you mention it, the timeline does seem confusing. When I applied to dental schools in Canada for the first time I completed the applications during my 4th year. However, due to the way the application systems work for some schools in Ontario, this meant that they were looking at my top 2 years NOT including the year I applied within. So, although my 4th year marks were among my highest, they unfortunately were not considered on my application and instead they looked at my 2nd and 3rd year marks (which had some of my lowest marks due to a low second year GPA). I graduated from my bachelor's degree in June 2017 and took time off of school as I planned on applying again to Canada during the next cycle so that they could include my 4th year marks in the application, which I believe would have helped a ton. During this time off I also completed my application to Australia and applied to multiple schools in the US. From Sept-Nov I received offers to interview in the US and also received my offer of acceptance to Australia, which I ultimately accepted! So I didn't have the issue of having to drop out of any courses since I took that break from school anyway. If things didn't work out at that time I would have enrolled soon after that in both extra courses and taking my DAT again! I hope this makes more sense now as to what the timeline was and why I didn't jump into extra courses at the time. 😊 Let me know if this is still confusing! Good luck with everything!
@@alannahanita-marie Thank you so much for the help!!! That makes so much more sense! I am literally having the same situation where I want to use my 4th year grades because my second year grades are lower (covid :( ), so I was planning to also take an extra year instead of a gap year ( I am in 3rd year now, going great!) . But it is weird because September I would start my 5th year, whereas I also might get an acceptance into AU which means I would have to drop out of that 5th year lool so I was just confused, thanks for clarifying! I am assuming you graduated right? If so, how is the work like back in Canada! That is another big question I have always wondered, did you find a stable job when/if you came back to Canada? This had to be amazing that you can finally pay off debt faster now! Thanks for all the help! This really helps me decide between things :D
@@colberendsal5884 Yeah! If you continue straight into a 5th year then I guess you would just drop those classes if you accept your offer, which at the end of the day would be fine! I did graduate yes! Unfortunately did not get to have an in person graduation due to covid. But I recently got back to Canada and am in the process of getting my license. It takes around 4-6 weeks for the license registration for the provinces to go through, so I am still waiting on all of that. I am definitely going to make a video soon once I am settled with a job to explain that process after returning from Australia too! 😊
@@alannahanita-marie That would be great, I would love to see how life is after returning from Australia! Thanks for all these videos! They are tremendously helpful :D
I love Australia! I attended Oz Sky Star Safari held 10km from Coonabarabran, NSW. I also visited Sydney, Vincentia and Collingswood Beach on Jarvis Bay. Wonderful! Loved the Hot Cross buns and the Barramundi. Good luck in Aussie dental school!
Wow! I always wanted to go to Jervis Bay! Thank you so much for your comment 😊
Hey Alannah! I was curious, were you able to come back home at all when a school year was done? I know that you were in school while the pandemic was going on but I wondered if you were allowed to go back home at any given point in time. Also was school online? Thanks for looking at my question!
Hi Riley! In my first and second year (before the pandemic) I got to go home twice a year, once in my mid-year break and again for Christmas break! It was perfect. But then in third and fourth year I had those same breaks off of school but unfortunately couldn't travel home because of Australia's border restrictions, which are now currently not a problem anymore for anyone starting school there this year 😊. School was online for about half of my third year. But there is only so much you can do online in dentistry, so we went back to in-person fairly quickly for clinical and lectures and seminars remained on zoom. Thanks for your question!
Awesome! Now that borders are open, I am considering heading over to Australia. I'm trying to get my degree in nursing, but have been unsuccessful even though I'm already a working LPN for the last two years now. Can you work and do school while you're there? I was told that's illegal to do as there's a work visa or a school one; can't have both? Have you worked while being in Australia?
@@rileydohlman7574 You can definitely work while in school there! You are allowed to work a certain number of hours on a student visa as well. I know many classmates who had jobs during their degree. 😊 Good luck with everything!
How to get MDS in Australia , like the procedures and certificates required if you have already completed BDS in your country
Hi Ann! If you already have a dental degree in another country there are a set of exams required to be taken in Australia in order to practice and become licensed there. I believe it is called the ADC exam, if you are interested in looking into it ☺
dude these things in india like 5 exams in four days we are used to it we have no social life from our childhood itself the only thing stressing me in dental school is the staffs they are ruining our life and crushing our souls iam scared to death jus by standing near to my staff .... bro i can't these staff won't teach us anything but they think we are there competition and cursing and humilating us every single time for no reason .... i love dentistry but these staffs are making me to hate what i love 😔
So true!
I’m wondering how much osap covers for students with low income ?
OSAP typically gave about $9,000/year, but this actually increased in my last year to $14,000, so it may be higher now for incoming students! 😊
Thank you for this video. Just a quick question regarding the DAT - I saw that you can take it every 3 months while the CDAT is twice a year only. For the DAT, do they only host 3-4 dates a year or there are multiple sessions and you just sign up for the next available one?
Hey Emilie! From my knowledge there are 2 dates that the DAT is held in Canada. One is in November and the other in February every year 😊
Fee structure of dentistry in Australia for undergraduates and is it affordable for middle class ??
Hi Sanchita! Sorry for the late response to your comment. I am not too familiar with the fee structure for undergraduate dentistry programs in Australia, but I feel like this question would be well answered by the team at OzTREKK! You can find contact information on this page: oztrekk.com/programs/dentistry/
Hey Alannah! Your videos are very helpful and I am so excited to possibly pursue dentistry in Australia. I am currently a first-year student from the University of Waterloo in Canada. I am interested in applying to the undergraduate pathway to dentistry in Australia. Is a degree from that pathway valid in Canada as a dentist degree? Also, what grade range should I aim for to have the best chance to get into Australian dental school?
Hey Dhruvi! That's amazing and I hope you are enjoying your first year so far 😊YES the undergraduate dental degrees in Australia are valid to work as a dentist in Canada! The undergraduate and graduate degrees are considered equivalent when you go back to Canada. If you know that this is what you want to do you can even consider completing your current undergrad in 3 years as a 3-year bachelors degree is recognized to be accepted into Australian dental schools. Just something to consider if you wanted to go to dental school sooner! The entrance GPA is always changing depending on those that are applying at the same time as you! If it helps- I was accepted for the 2018 year with a Western University calculated GPA of 3.7 in my 4th year, 3.9 in my 3rd year, and 3.3 in my 2nd year (not my best year lol). I hope this helps and lemme know if you have any more questions! Good luck 🥰
Do yall study from books or ppt of the lecture?
I usually study from lecture ppt's! But we do get additional articles to read as well so I study from those too and then if there is anything I don't understand I will use textbooks to learn more into it 😊
