    I am just starting to learn the Epson Print Layout, and while I was searching TH-cam for some tutorials, I found this fantastic, professional video guide. I use SC-P800, and one thing I noted on the UI is that I do not have the 'Detailed Setting section.' Is it because this setting does not apply to older printers like P800? Or any other reason? The version of Epson Print Layout that I use is 1.5.12. Thanks.

    For those wondering further about pro photo. From what i have gathered if you edit your photos editing in pro photo leads you to less artifacts. printing landscape photos and if you edit the photo keep it in pro photo and if you intend for social or print change it to adobe or srgb based on destination. Some papers print beyond adobe rgb so for files like that then print from pro photo. Like landscapes Use gamutvision Not color think pro. Save your 400 for paper and ink if you have windows I use relative and set it up for relative. Less forgiving yes but it is better. Perceptual is more general use but pros use relative and get it right. Learned a lot here joe ty.

    Hello @ericjoseph3865. Thank you for this fantastic video! I recently purchased a imagePROGRAF PRO-300. I'm using it with a few different Hahnemühle papers in A3+ size and I do most of my image editing in Lightroom. I much prefer CPP&L to Lightroom's print module. I find CPP&L is much less error prone with all of its settings visible in the panel on the right side. When I print directly from LR, many of the settings are buried under the Page Setup and Print Settings buttons, and I would invariably screw up one or more of them. I use LR and PS with the default ProPhoto color space. If I use the LR plug-in to launch CPP&L, it converts the color space to Adobe RGB and resamples the image to 240 ppi. If I use the PS plug-in, it maintains the original color space and resolution. Is there a way to stop the LR plug-in from doing the extra color space conversion and resampling? If not, how much do you think this will degrade a 13" x 19" print? Is it worth the trouble of saving the image in a new file with the appropriate size and resolution, or opening the LR image in PS and using the PS plug-in to launch CPP&L? Thanks for the help!

    can you to tile or poster printing in this software? for example a 30x30 over multiple prints and tape together for a poster size with multiple pieces of paper?

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello @derekpenix. Canon PPL does not perform that function. I believe you can accomplish this in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. There are also some RIP software packages that do this. For Windows Canon does have a program called Free Layout that may do it as well. I have never had the occasion to do any tiling myself so I admittedly don't have much information for you.

    Some people are photographers, and some other people just take pictures. What is a photograph and why do people take pictures? Come get your picture taken, then put it in a frame and hang it up in your living room? No! A photograph should have some meaning and purpose. A family: Mom , Dad, and the two kids photographed on a rainy day, wearing rain coats. While this is a whimsical picture,, it's pretty to look at with good compisition , but it also tells who the family is. Many people who know very little or nothing about photography assume it's all about the compisition, and the rest, while important is secondary to getting the picture. Of course you need to know how to use a camera so the picture is not over or under exposed and in focus. But they assume the technical part is secondary. A fast shutter speed, a slow shutter speed, a wide lens opening, a small opening. This lens, that lens, color, black and white, film, digital, shooting in total automatic or total manual. And when it comes to light, the essence of photography, what is the best light. Some people will be surprised that all light is. Need I explain?

    Eric, I print from Photoshop exclusively (even though I have LRC installed and use the heck out of it) mostly because that's where I "finish" most of my images. I've just purchased an Eco-Tank 5880 and, out of interest, I downloaded EPL and it worked fine on my M3 MacBook Air running Sequoia. Epson setup guidance is quite clear about choosing their software and not AirPrint, at least via the phone app setup. Although not all paper types are listed as for printers described in this video, those relevant to the 5880 are there. Due to the inks used the 5880 is more suited to a narrower range of papers I believe.

    Thank you, never would have guessed it would be under Automate menu I have tried changing the margin but cannot seem to do that without it showing part of the image as being off the printable area. By default it says 25. How does this work?

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello @itaylorm. If you are choosing the paper sizes that say Margin 25 on a Canon Pro-300, 1000 or 1100, you are choosing a size that forces a 25mm margin top and bottom. This is to help folks avoid head strikes on the edges of paper that is curling up too much causing the print head to hit against the corners and edges of the paper. Choose a paper size setting that does not have Margin 25 and you'll be fine. You will be able to print either borderless or within 1/8 inch of the edge of the paper with other paper size selections other than Margin 25.

      Epson Print Layout is "officially" compatible only with the printers stated. If you can use it and it works, go for it.

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Abundant-Living Epson Eco-Tank printers are not designed for fine art printing but more for home use and simple printing on resin coated or plain papers. My recommendation is if Epson Print Layout works, then use it. I'm sure QimageOne will integrate with it as well but it is a bit of a complicated program to use for most people but it is a very low cost RIP program. My recommendation is to simply use the standard printer driver through the File-Print command.

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Richard. That is a very good question. Canon PPL can not include borders in the slots. You can either "fill" the slot with the image or "fit" the image to the slot using the Slot Size drop down menu when performing a left click on the slot area. The only way to create a border is to use the Show Crop Marks tool in the Layout panel and set them to 1.25 inches away from each corner of the slot. You can set this parameter but clicking on the "Settings" button to the right of the Show Crop Marks tool. You can set the Crop Mark Positioning there as well as activate Inside Corner Crop Marks, which I would highly recommend for ease when trimming down your images. I hope this helps.

    How can I install a MOAB icc profile on to the Canon Pro 300. I have the ICC profile saved to my Mac computer. However, when I try to upload the ICC profile using the Canon Media Configuration Tool, the ICC profiles are greyed out.

    • @ericjoseph3865
      @ericjoseph3865 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello michaelricco. You don't install ICC profiles on your Canon Pro-300. If you are only installing the ICC profile from Moab's website, you simply copy the ICC profile file in to the folder at this location on your hard drive if you are on an Apple computer, Macintosh HD - Library - ColorSync - Profiles. If you are on Windows simply click on the file and choose Install Profile and Windows will install it in the correct location. When you launch Canon Professional Print & Layout the profile will be listed in the Printer Profile dropdown menu. Make sure you choose the correct and appropriate Media Type Setting for the profile you are using. The Canon Media Configuration Tool does not install profiles. It is designed to install AM1X files which are combination Media Type files with attached profiles. By installing these types of files the profile will automatically get installed in the correct location. It is a bit confusing the Media Type files and ICC profiles are two different things. The Media Configuration Tool is also designed to allow you to create custom Media Type files as well. Maob currently doesn't provide AM1X files for the Canon Pro-300 so I wouldn't worry about this now. You might want to watch the video on this LACP TH-cam channel called Introduction to Media Configuration Tool that is a recorded class I taught a bit ago on how to use that program. You can also email me directly at etjoseph@freestylephoto.com if you need further assistance. I hope this helps.

    Eric, this is a great video. I have a question, when making my prints should I converted to 8 Bits? I understand that the Canon Pro-300 and other inkjet rinter only supports 8 bits and are more consistents like that. Any thoughts? there is no comments in this subject. Also, when you talk about color space, I understand you rpoint of Adobe RGB, but if you use Lightroom as your focal point to manage your photos and Edit in Photoshop, and store it in LR. Going back and forth changing the Color Space is not recommended, as far as I know. The problem is LR defauult Color Space is always Prophoto. Thanks again.

      When printing you want the most information you can get in your file. ProPhoto RGB is generally too big but many people use it. I feel, and many others feel that Adobe RGB (1998) is a more appropriate color space for digital fine art printing since our inks in our printers we designed around this color space. 16 bit files are always better than 8 bit files as they contain more information. The Lightroom default color space is ProPhoto RGB but all of this is selectable and adjustable in LR. You might want to view my other video “The Six Steps to Making Perfect Inkjet Prints on the LACP TH-cam Channel. I touch on color space and the differences between sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) and Pro Photo RGB.

    Eric, you talked about the Canson Infinity Arches paper, an Arches 88 which is I assume the Photo Paper type and another one that I didn't catch the name. Could you please let me know what Canson Infinity Arches paper you are recommending. As well as any other brands you would recommend. I have a New Canon ImageProGraf Pro-300 and would like to see what you recommend. Thanks in advance - Michael

      I love all of the papers in the Canson-Infintiy Arches Infinity Range of inkejt papers. Arches 88 is very smooth, BFK Rives has a medium texture and availalbe in both a Pure White and what I call a traditional no OBA white, and then there is Aquarelle which is a very heavy textured watercolor paper. Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag is a fan favorite for a semi-gloss, 100% cotton paper. Hahnemühle also has a ton of great papers and I especially like the new Bamboo Gloss Baryta. You might want to sign up for one of our Inkjet Paper Psychotherapy Sessions. It really is the only way I know of to answer this question.

    Hi this is a great tutorial. My workflow is that I go through a bunch of images in Lightroom and edit them as I choose which ones I want to print (i.e. I don't choose and edit 5 and then print in one batch, I print to have rough sketches). I'm finding that I have to close the Canon programme after each image in order for met to add another image to print. I.e. I can't drag images from Lightroom as I'm working. Can you help?

      Hello nataschalibbert8345. When using Lightroom, you simply need to highlight the files you want to print in your film strip and go to File -- Plug-In Extras and then choose Canon Professional Print & Layout. Your files will be exported from Lightroom to Canon PPL if you are working from within Lightroom. You need to install the plug-in first of course. You can not drag and drop files from Lightroom or the film strip in to Canon PPL. Lightroom doesn't work that way. You are only seeing a preview image of your file in Lightroom and you are working in a Library of thumbnails in a Catalog and not the actual images files themselves. This is one of the tricky things about working in Lightroom that most folks miss. In order to drag and drop files in to PPL they have to be fully exported out of Lightroom as a JPG or TIF file and have a color space assigned to them such as sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) or ProPhoto RGB. I also always size my file to the size I want to print in inches at 300 ppi. I hope this helps.
