..............................................................................................................
Hey there! Hi People! We're in 2017 now , how many people have seen this video in this years ! How many comment , how many compliments, how many judjment and...verdict.
And thank you all to have enjoyed my video and my restoration !
I leave everyone to express what they think and I'm sorry I will not respond to all.
I just say here that this was one of my first work done only by myself, one of my first very difficult restoration of oil paint on canvas .
Well, yes maybe is not perfect, now after 4 years I'm sure I would do differently choises about this work .
Everyone evolving their self and they're knowledge a long the way , and this is possible only whit esperiences , practice and hard work .
I'm a restorer I love so much my work , and I will always practice for do always better than before.
If you're courious to see how I improved my technique in this years ..well you're welcome in my site and website .
Love,
Emma

I love the choreographic interaction with the music. It was like a symphony of art or maybe ballet. Now on to the rest of the video. 🥰

i ll moderate my comment of 6 months ago, i can see the benefit of practising on a painting that is perhps not the best quality in terms of painting. In this respect, restoring an olmost lost painting can be a very good practise for starting restoration professionals....i think i was a little bit too quick to jump to the conclusion it was done solely for the money., i only now read the description and found out it was one of your first projects..my apologies

why would you try to restore something that is so heavily damaged? What is lost, is lost. Restoring minor damages where the overall image is still in great part intact, I can see the benefit. But this? Quite useless, since the artistry that was in the original painting, simply is completely lost by at best a very moderate painting job...some paintings just are beyond restoration, this is one of them. It getts a bit the feeling of trying to revive a cadaver....frankensteinesque...But I guess if there has been good money paid to do it, you do it....

A difficult restoration of a nearly completely ruined painting by a D-list painter - I would have liked some explanations why the restorer chose to work the way she did. In the end - due to the heavy loss and her intense cleaning process she had to literally repaint the entire painting which exceeds the work of a restorer by far. Not her job! The question remains if she had to do it this way or if there may have been a better way to deal with this painting. Restoring the remaining pieces of it and leave the rest untouched or re-doing it in the way that only resembles her own imagination of what the original painter may have planned to have the portrait look like. Now the author portrayed may be recognizable as an author/poet (first I thought he was a monk or a priest) but his eyes are completely dead and the painting is doesn't reflect life anymore. I'm quite happy I don't have to make such difficult decisions in order to obey the wishes of the owner.

Often the work of the restorer is conditioned by the value of the works and the interests of the owner. In this sense, it defines techniques, materials and results that the work can achieve and, in most cases, does not justify the intervention performed!

Having attached a new back on the canvas, you covered up the name and date on the back of the original canvas. Could you not have made a window in the new backing so that could be seen?

I have binge watched Baumgartner's videos, which are narrated, so watching this I understood everything you did :p Nice job ! The original paiting was in a state I think most people would say it's a complete loss.

The hair line behind the left ear is all wrong. It's out much too far now. Based on what I could see the original outline was still visible. Why did you change it?

I have old musical instruments, the damage is part of the look, I don’t want them looking new, but of course if the damage is severe, then yes fix them, but they still need the wear and tear to show the age. Different in this case though, not many options

I have no idea who this was a portrait of but that had to take months. I personally prefer full restores but I'm not a purist either. Fantastic job! Non ho idea di chi fosse questo ritratto ma che ci sono voluti mesi. Personalmente preferisco completamente restaurato ma non sono neanche un purista. Lavoro fantastico!
