    Old pattern yes. We made a new pattern harness similar to both Iphod and SMERCH with molle and less chest, Soflcs...... the closest current issue surplus is probably the A-Tap but even then....

    Put the harness mounted knife on your belt. Sooner or later, you will lose it mounted like that. The neck knife is a good idea and should take care of any need for a fast access knife.

  • @BorisAntushev

    I'd really recommend to put some sort of safety sheath on the shovel if you want to carry it with sharp edge toward you back.

    I do not if you still rock this belt kit. But take another alice mag carrier and place it on the dump pouch. Then attach the dump pouch on the grenade loops

    zip tie a piece of sleeping mat into the belt for padding to make it significantly more comfortable, maybe spray paint the shovel so it stands out less.

    That Soviet e-tool was made to be worn on the belt, on the right butt-cheek (among other integrations) - it's the Soviet soldier's "multitool": hatchet, shovel, hand-to-hand weapon - all in one - some have even used it as a frying pan. My 2 pence: Make a sheath (to protect yourself and gear from its sharp edges), and place it behind the buttpack with sharp edges facing outwards. Alternatively, you can have it handing behind one of the canteen pouches (would make it easier to sit on the ground). Alternatively, you can place it horizontally above the buttpack. Also you can place it vertically on the yoke on your back (handle up for quick access). It's awkward shape is it's only drawback - otherwise, the Soviet e-tool is really the best out there. I usually keep mine on the side of the bergen (rucksack). Personally, I have the Austrian folding shovel (identical to US Vietnam-era e-tool) ...it's good, but if I'd choose again, I'd probably for go with the Glock E-tool.

    Kit is great! Its good to see ALICE being used in a modern world and seeing modern gear integrated in a meaningful way and it shows some actual use! Things I've noticed while doing stuff in the woods and whatnot: -foil top items can often break and cause the contents to spill (apple sauce, PB, etc.) take at your own risk, and check often if youre a little more vigorous in activity with your gear -all packages with moisture can break and move into other things (wet wipes for example) can bust open. At worst they can wet other items, at best, they just dry out to a scented dry wipe -boo-boo kit is nothing if you dont have an alcohol wipe or two in there. Minor cuts that arent clean will get funky and painful. Good to look into the single-serve antibiotic pouches so they fit easier in the kit compared to a whole tube. -bayo is great to have as a beefy knife to use to make shelter and other outdoorsy crafting things you can come up with -ALICE rigs allow for chest rigs for modularity and adding on more stuff like ammo and other specialty gear, to include plates -handguns are nice, but retention of a sidearm can be a nightmare. Losing the sidearm with a dot and light can turn a fun RECCE-whatever mission into a legit search-and-rescue for YOUR weapon. Its nice, but you will pay the price in making space for your sidearm and the ammo it needs

    You could even spray paint this whole set up to your liking. The spray paint will pick up all the natural stuff in your environment and make it even more camouflaged. I've rattle canned gear before and it works pretty well even with heavy use. The fad right now is micro chest rigs but bit load bearing vests still have their place. Also, is that knife cumbersome at all? I've never used this system so i can't tell how it fits on your body. To me it looks like if you took a knee, that knife would be in your way.

    • @minutemancorner4434
      @minutemancorner4434 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ended up rattle canning the whole thing. It looks just fine and way easier than the rit dye. The knife got a little in the way when moving about. No good place to put it 🥲 even though I truly believe every warrior needs a bayonet. I just stash it in my assualt pack and use a smaller knife for cutting tasks. Thanks for the comment!

    I just started to set up a FLC Vest. I have been running and gunning since the late 70s with the vietnam web gear. Waiting for my FLC Vest and all new pouches in the mail any day now. I will be able to use any of these pouches on a different chest rig + belt set up if the vest doesn't work out. At my age now the vest seemed the best at wait distribution. I did upgrade in the mid 80s to the same Bianchi pistal holster. You know your going to lose your gun in that one. Thanks for sharing ❤

    Great tips at the end! Thanks. Here's a couple more: I'm picking up a NOS lbv88e tomorrow so I havent tried it yet but I'm going to try the trick where you soak the mag pouches in hot water and shove pmags in there and let it dry. I heard guys did the same to cram like 6 20rounders in the canteen pouch. I'll report back with results. I'll be replacing the harness with the british plce which I hear is the best. And while you could cut up a sleeping mat to use as belt padding, the british have a nice looking DPM hip pad that just velcros over the belt. I'm excited about that cause alice clips freaking suck when they create hot spots. Also if you're like me and don't want to tie 550 cord on every alice clip and just ziptie them instead, make sure you file them down after trimming them flush so they don't cut into any of your gear. 🤙

    • @torsten4757
      @torsten4757 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey RavenRedwood, my idea is that: don´t cut the zip tie flush, let just a little left to melt it down with a lighter or a soldering iron . So it´s additionally secured and smooth surface at the cut. I did it like that and it holds up fine.
