Epic. 🎉
Thanks, Dan. Fil is wonderful. He does his analysis vids, and he is often visibly upset uncovering the truth. I grew up going to real shows with real performances. A professional musician should be able to perform a song they recorded in the studio . . . or they should not do that song. It should not sound exactly like the record, however. That's boring. I'm pretty sure U2 is not using backing tracks and miming. Who wants to attend a concert and hear pre-recorded music and watch someone dance around, miming? Yikes!!!!
Just received this album totally awesome 😁
He probably should have just lip synced the whole show. Then it wouldn’t have been so obvious. There’s no way the voice that did the live vocals was capable of doing the the lip synced part. During the live section, his voice sounded either damaged or inflamed. He was definitely forcing it. I don’t know anything about him, but my first thought was that he had a throat infection that day
Nobody cares.
Oof… that lip syncing is rough. This isn’t new. Hell, the Stones have had backup singers double Mick’s higher notes cause the man is in his over 60 for decades now. I’m gonna spoiler a few other things: Santa clause isn’t real. Your parents lied to you. And the wish you made when you dropped a penny down that well at the mall isn’t going to come true. 😂 This is a respectful commentary and opinion. I wish all opinions with delivered with this calm and factual back up. And pointing out hypocrisy by those holding themselves up as ideals should be highlighted.
This is as easy as controversies get. He is clearly miming every note in his upper register. Or, what it use to be. And, what makes this irrefutable is Fil’s analysis. It is absolute proof. I don’t understand Ken. There is no shame in miming. If you are honest about it to your viewers, that is. If you are going to hide the truth then you are cheating those who believe in you.
The fact that Ken would sit there in his videos, listening to FAMOUS Singers, and finding flaws with their singing, and basically insulting them, while implying that he sings better than all of them, says a LOT about Ken.
ill listen to any decent track guitar or synth based. However i will not tolerate hip hop or DISNEY kiddie pop artists. Real musicians dont seem to have bands that reach the general population. Its incredible but im living in a world of imagination much more than this boring 2024 culture.
Aaaarrrrggghh.... look I c a n sing people ! Ken tamplin
Great track ❤
this dude is such a douchebag. his going on and on and on is what makes him a fraud not just admitting it.
Learn to use the App and you can set full sound. You can't rely on just twisting the knobs there's so much more. I love this system I have 2 mk11 's and with crossovered links it gives me loads of channels but only 4 in stereo but I only use 3 anyway
Hi Dan. I believe that both you and Fil are correct. Just like Fil was correct about T Swift on the Eras tour. I, like you and Fil, have years of experience in the studio and mixing live sound. But, the fact is that you're both exposing what so many artists have been doing for years! Frankly, I didn't know that it was a "BIG SECRET," or a "FRAUD." I will not divulge the artists, but as a FOH engineer fifteen years ago, it was my job to bring in and out pre-tracked vocals for one or more shows that I was mixing. This was then and continues to be standard operating procedure for many acts. Backing tracks have been used for many years by many artists. Also pitch correction (auto tune) has been used, and is still used by many live singers. These are demonstrable facts. Yes, there are current popular acts that use none or very little of these techniques, but from my experience, most of the biggests stars use some if not all. My concern is that so many people are "freaked out," when they learn about this. As a tour manager once said to me, " these folks came to hear, _ _ _ _ _ _ sound perfect, we can't do that without a little help from tech." LIke it or not, these techniques will continue regardless of Fil's analysis'. On an unfortunate level, this really isn't about singers and production, but rather about TH-cam, the algorithm, and monetization. Some channels use catchy headlines or thumbnails to get clicks. I'm intentionally not using the term "clickbait," as it has gained a very broad, and perhaps and inaccurate definition. Once very devoted fans see these analyses', they become defensive and make hateful comments. Then as others respond the comments and the controversy grows. This greatly increases views as the discussion moves into other forms of social media. In the end result, the TH-cam channel owner benefits monetarily from this! Fil has accumulated over 600,000 views from his Taylor videos. That translates directly to revenue. In the end I can't fault Fil for "cashing in" on Taylor's fame and fan base. The difficult question is: "where do you draw the line?" Is an artist a "fraud," if I add reverb to her voice? After all desirable reverb wouldn't occur naturally on this performance. (I use this as a extreme example.) How about EQ, or Compression, or Delay? When I am mixing a show, my job, as outlined by the promoter is to make the artist sound the best that I can. The reality of this entire discussion, is: regardless of any analysis, Taylor Swift will continue to sell out arenas everywhere she goes, and Ken Tamplin will continue to be the number one vocal coach on the Internet.
The title is more accurately Ken Tamplin vs Himself.
There is a very different timbre when he goes into the higher range.
that was dark?
Well you start the video looking at wave forms. It’s music. USE YOUR EARS!!! It’s so frustrating to see all these people thinking they are real audio engineers staring at wave forms on a monitor. No one listening to music is looking at wave forms. And the greatest records ever made were made without people looking at waveforms. Who cares!!!??? It’s Music and we listen with our ears. May god save us all
Definitely order this for Christmas
I wouldn't be too hard on Ken. He has admittedly helped a lot of people.
Yes! Greatness!
Mr. Tamplin sure has a high opinion about himself.
I have no experience on recording and stuffs, but I love music, and I can hear when something is off. And this Live Performance have lots of weird vocal changes.
I disliked Ken Tamplin the first time I saw him in a video. He was doing some sort of listening video, and he kept on singing himself over it. The guy is totally in love with himself, and his own technique is not that good.
Those plants on the shelves behind him look fake too.
I trust Fil. He knows what he's talking about and has the backup to prove it. He's a musician himself and has no axe to grind. The point you made were obvious to me when I saw and heard the clip and I'm not a music tech. Ken should know that not everyone can be Steve Perry...
Why is Ken Tamplin the kmly singer who sticks his disgusting tongue out when he sings?
Nice. Three minutes of "yeah, cool, but not quite what I expected... this is an intro, right?". And now I'm headbanging. Might have to dust off my spirograph java program, maybe rewrite it in R? Thanks, TH-cam algorithms are having a great day.
Sorry for second comment. Recently saw Tom Jones and was blown away by his live voice but did notice he had lowered what he was singing - just to back up what you said about aging.
I know next to nothing about music and it was immediately obvious that the high bits didn't sound at all like the rest of the vocals.
What an effeminate man off stage.....and a liar a fraud.
That so subtle......NOT 😂😂 they must think the audience is tone deaf
CD + digital immediately purchased. $25 USD well fucking spent mates! Masterpiece.

Many congrats on this fatastic album. Best of luck guys.
Your analysis is spot on. You can hear that Ken’s lower register voice begins to crack and become hoarse the higher his register gets on the live portion. For him to actually reach the high register portion live, his voice would be fully cracking and hoarse. Those vocals could not be achieved by his voice in the state that it’s in in his lower register. His voice sounds blown out for even his low register singing. There’s almost zero chance he could reach that high register singing live. He knows that… which is why he replaced those sections with something prerecorded.
With that said, it’s possible that Ken has some sort of live vocal effect available to him on stage. One that converts his lower register singing into that higher register strained singing. I’ve never heard of such a vocal effect existing, but new software gets released every day. He could actually be singing the part live in his lower register and that software is up converting his live vocal to sound like that. Many effects require a slight amount of processing delay, which could explain why the mouth is not exactly moving in sync. AI singing is definitely coming into reality. So, I cannot discount this possibility.
Simply because someone can sing, it doesn’t mean they can or should teach. That’s like taking nutritional advice from someone who’s buff. Just because they can do it themselves and have the genes for it, doesn’t at all mean they can tell you how to do it.
Long live The HOOF!!!
Thank you. I went to a David Bromberg show once at a show bar in the Colorado foothills, a place called the Little Bear. I had a table right in front of the stage. David came on stage and croaked into the microphone that he had developed laryngitis, was sorry, and that anyone who wished could go up to the bar and get their money back for the show. However, he was still going to go ahead and play for a bit and do what he could to entertain us. I saw no one go to the bar for anything but another beer. Yes, his voice was rough, but it was still the best show I ever went to. It was live. It was real, and the man drips with talent, in his writing, on his guitar, and in his voice. Essentially nobody left for the 3 hours he managed to play. It was a great show. Real is right. It's the reason for someone with the studio recording at home and a great stereo still paying a couple hundred bucks to see a live show, because it's a real person whose artistry you respect and appreciate and they are standing right there to entertain you. Fil knows his stuff. But this Ken Tamplin guy is a lying clown. Competent professionals have trouble even responding to such clowns. When the waveforms, (amplitude, phase and frequency,) overlay at precisely the same millisecond at multiple points in a recording, IT'S THE SAME RECORDING!
I know a little about live and studio recording, and a whole lot about electronics and applied physics. Fil is absolutely right, and presents his facts as kindly as he can while being fully honest, as do you. You know the business. Subscribed.
Thanks! ❤
this is great...👍
I hate AI and personally, think all the music, art and writing it produces is absolute rubbish. I loved your outrage over this so-called ‘experiment’ however. It was great to see these pretentious idiots called out, instead of praised for being progressive and innovative, which is no doubt how they see themselves. You should do more of these sorts of videos as there is too much breathless hype around the menace of AI. We need people like you and Wings of Pegasus.
I looked up a few music videos before watching the video, not knowing it was AI , And I fell for it. I rather liked it. I thought it was rather original, this whole 70's sound. So it fooled me. Maybe it says something about the current music industry ? A lot of ' popular music' these days sound rather fake to me. Pitch correcting, lip syncing blurs the line between real and fake already.
I only just heard that song for the first time earlier this evening. Been listening to This Sceptred Veil & Terra Solus albums for the past 6 months, now starting to look back the way in the catalogue. Some fantastic tunes. I never knew I was into Stoner Rock until I heard Ghosts In The Well by Howling Giant, heard it on the off chance. Liked it. So listened some more. Heard another great song by them, The Tree & The Serpent... took me a few listens and I was like, nah, that is a different band! Very glad I discovered the Hoof, would love to see you live. Need to get on the look out... if I do see you lads live, I would expect to hear some of the slower tracks, like Zigurat & Half a Man... concerts need light and shade in there!! Keep up the good work.
Ken's integrity is shot.
His ‘fans’ are probably just bots.
YT algoriddim brought me here from W.O.P. The video of the band from 7:35 to 8:23 clearly has sections where the singer's voice is edited in with another recording, it sounds different, his lips, mouth, face, eyes are out of sync The explanation by pale wizard records of what is going on is clear, concise and accurate. There's no argument.
Why does he remind me of Donald Trump?
Probably the constant over-the-top delivery and shameless lies.
I always thought Ken and Kamala look like siblings.
Moral of the story: tell the truth
