I tried toyota remote connect...
I got scammed by toyota. I'm not particularly happy about my experience with remote connect, but I got my money back. I disputed the charges with my credit card provider and explained the situation, and I got a refund.

    How would you say this compares to the performance exhaust that comes in the anniversary edition. Looking to make a change.

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The performance exhaust that comes stock is a little louder than the regular factory exhaust, but it's still got a fairly sizeable muffler compared to most aftermarket exhausts. The AWE touring exhaust in my experience is the perfect balance between loudness and comfort, it's basically just as loud as the track edition at higher RPMs but when you're cruising on the highway it eliminates that low end drone. If you're looking for more noise then I'd say it's worth upgrading to it, otherwise stick with the performance exhaust that comes factory

    I heard you have unlock the car before exiting, there's no Auto Unlock when you open the door from the inside is that true?

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      so there's no auto unlock like most cars where if you pull the door handle when the door is locked it will both unlock and open the door. If the door is locked and you pull the handle, nothing happens. Door won't unlock or open. This isn't really an issue in daily use because the doors never auto lock to begin with. In most other Toyotas the doors will automatically lock when you shift out of park or drive above ~12mph, but in this car there's no option for that. They stay unlocked, so when you go to pull the handle the door is already unlocked anyway.

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, you got it down. I quickly toss it into neutral while I'm moving at like 5mph, give it a couple revs then wait till the RPMs drop then toss it back into drive. Def don't throw it into drive too soon or you'd basically be doing a neutral drop (could cause some serious transmission issues)

      @@relatablerides got ya, thanks dude! a neutral drop has happened to me before, which scared me, but my car seems fine still. is it rare for it to cause trans issues or is it only an issue if you constantly do it

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So there's this joke on the Internet you might have come across, it goes something along the lines of "you only get one true launch in an automatic car" referencing a neutral drop 😂. If you're throwing a modern auto into drive from neutral the ecu generally does a good job of not overloading the transmission with a bunch of torque all at once, usually the ECU will let the engine rev down to maybe 2-2.5k RPMs before it lets the transmission put you in drive. That being said, I haven't tried to test the limits nor do I want to 😅. If you do a neutral drop a few times on accident with fairly low RPMs you shouldn't be worried too much about the transmission, but just don't do it regularly and don't do it from a stupid high RPM 👍.

    can you get it to show estimated miles left with your existing fuel level? that’s probably what I would want it to display all the time

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From the factory configuration that doesn't seem to be an option. The estimated fuel range is computed by the ECU based on a number of factors, and to my knowledge there's no way to extract that number as a value on the P3 gauge like you can for coolant/oil/intake/exhaust temps, as those are just simple values that run through the ECU rather than being an "artificial" value created by the ecu (such as fuel range).

    Try and talk to someone higher up, Toyota cares about their reputation and and this may not be their fault, but a third party company.

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me as an individual, it's not worth it to speak to a higher up. Even if I got on the phone with one of the managers at the customer support center they likely wouldn't be able to do anything in the way of making the app work. I did speak with a supervisor when I called requesting a refund, but as I mentioned in the video they said it's against their policy to refund the one month subscriptions. All I can really do now is put this video out in hopes of seeing a change from toyota. To my knowledge (which could be flawed), toyota runs their own servers for their remote connect services. This exists such that your registered phone can create a secure connection to their servers, and the vehicle can do the same. That way there's a significant decrease in vulnerability to hacking, and I'm guessing that coupled with radio reception based on your vehicle's location is what causes the large delay in the app.

    I had an issue where the sos button didn’t work it eventually started to work after like 8 months of me owning it The free trial never worked But now it does The app is kinda useless where it takes like 45 seconds from holding the button to turn the vehicle on The only cool feature is being able to unlock and lock the door is all

    • @relatablerides
      @relatablerides 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, the app was never particularly worth it for me either. I mentioned at the end of the video that the only thing that mattered for me in the app was just to be able to remote start the car, and if they included that on the key fob I wouldn't have bothered with the app at all. The delay for me isn't 45 seconds though, it's closer to 10 or so. Still too long to be called "responsive" but it's at least manageable.

      That's what I'm saying! Why would toyota include a half-baked system like this in one of their cars? It's truly beyond me. From the reading I've been doing on the forums, a few people said that pressing and holding their "i" button next to the SOS buttom allowed the car to "activate" that system, letting them press their SOS button. I'd give it a shot, though again I wouldn't put too much faith into it.

      Just good practice. I always use the ebrake to park any car I drive just as an extra precaution to make sure it's not going anywhere. It's also a better way to stop the car from moving, as it stops the car from the wheels directly rather than the P gear stopping the car from the transmission end. Additionally, I haven't experienced this in any other car but in the GR86 when I don't pull the parking brake the transmission feels like it doesn't want to shift out of park the next time I drive it (It's stiffer than when I pull the ebrake). It's a minor thing, I'm sure it won't be the cause of any long term damage but it's a smoother experience for me to pull the ebrake when parking.

    the noise difference in the oem and GS hose is awesome, very nice!

      It really is! I'm surprised a pipe that small could have such a big difference for the engine tone!

      @relatablerides yeah definitely, love the Neptune blue as well 💙 👌 Have you considered getting a grimmspeed dry con drop in filter? Or not necessary?

      Thank you, I love the color so much. Shame Toyota isn't making them in Neptune blue anymore. I'm actually already running an HKS high airflow filter, it was one of those mods that I put on without filming because it was so straightforward it didn't need its own video. With this generation of 86/BRZ the factory air intake has a carbon filter behind the drop in filter, so swapping out just the filter doesn't make any difference in the way of power or noise just because the carbon filter is the limiting factor. The cheap and easy solution is to just cut it out of the OEM box, or alternatively swap out the entire intake system for a full cold air intake w/ a cone filter.

    I prefer the black interior heh

      To each their own, I can definitely appreciate the simplicity that comes with a black interior but I'd personally like a splash of color to mix things up a little 😁

    If I lower my stock brz limited trim by one inch with springs, add 20mm spacers like you did, will that change anything drastically? I think the fitment alone on yours looks great with the spacers but I do want to get rid of that top gap slightly. I assume these are 18" tires and not 17"?

      I don't imagine it'll make a drastic impact on the stock suspension geometry or add any weird strain on places there shouldn't be. If anything you'll just end up with super clean fitment with the stock wheels. Dropping it about an inch will definitely clean up that top gap. If I wasn't daily driving this car on New Jersey roads I'd have already lowered it by now lol 😂. That would lock in really good looking fitment for sure. Yep, the GR86 Premium and BRZ limited share the same style 18" wheels, the only difference being the finish on the wheels. The GR86 has the matte black finish while the BRZ has a more grayish matte finish. Other than that the wheels are identical in terms of sizing and shape. Let me know if this helps!

    Suspension stock ?

      Yep, for the time being I'm gonna stick with stock suspension. This car is my daily, and let's just say the roads between my house and my uni aren't the best out there. Hopefully if I can manage to afford air suspension in the future that's the route I'm gonna go. Thanks for leaving a comment!
