It’s your AC compressor.

Replacing compressor will definitely solve issue if sound is from the cluth or pulley bearing as normally compressor might come one set with pulley and clutch. Unless u dont mind about the cost then it alright.

Having the same issue. Replaced compressor and still same. Sounds like it’s coming from the alternator.

For anyone having the same noise and looking for answers, i had the exact same noise (it also had a hard time making cold air, even more at idle/slow speed), so i replaced the ac compressor and the noise was completely gone. Hope it helps anyone !

What is the solution? Similar problem with my car, the car runs smoothly without AC but as soon as I turned on the AC the compressor/ pulley makes the same noise. AC technician says, you have to replace the compressor with new. Please guide me.

My car AC has the rattling sound but the AC is cooling well. If I stop the AC the noise goes away. I have been advised by the Car Dealer/Service to change the AC compressor and condenser. I am not comfortable with that as the AC is cooling well.

According to all the suggestions in the comments, you need to replace every single part in the entire vehicle.

How did you fix this problem? I believe that the pull needs tightened down or the AC compressor needs a replacement. Can you help me with the solution?? And yes i was hell glad it wasnt the transmission or the engine...dodged a bullet with that one.

My 1995 Sunfire started doing this some months after replacing the compressor. It is cooling good though! I changed the tensioner and the belt, went for a while then returned. I think it is the compressor.

Its normal for this type of knocking noise. Rotary vane compressor are like this. My brand new compressor makes this noise after it warms up

Bad a/c compressor. My friend's Chevy Sonic did the same thing we installed a new compressor and now he has a/c without the rod knock sound. He actually had his car towed home, it was that bad. Also he didn't want to make things worse.

my vw jetta 1.9 tdi also same noise while ac on or headlight on. if i increase load (electrical) noise increasing.. any sujjestion .. i tested with screwdriver ( ear test) noise comming from tensioner... i checked tensioner wheel bearing. looks good. still noise comming

Same exact noise in my 2014 Jeep Compass. To begin with we thought it to be the timing chain tensioner or a rod knocking. I quickly discovered after turning on the ac that it is when the noise began and stopped (turned off ac). After finding this video, as well as similar videos, we were quickly able to diagnose it as the ac compressor going bad. Still not ideal but better than the alternative😅

So...what was the OP's issue? My 2010 Camry id doing the same, but it stops after the car is warmed up. I hope the problem does not get worse with this extreme heat wave most of the USA is experiencing. AC is ice cold. Just added A/C Pro Synthetic Refrigerant in May. So easy that even I could do it. Temp is now 20 degrees colder.

My 2003 trailblazer Lt is making the same noise but u changed the pulleys there new but still makes that knocking sound like a helicopter haha but what would it be the ac compressor clutch ??

My 2009 corolla is doing this only when the ac is on. Im guessing the clutch or compressor but ac is cold. I manually turned the compressor and don't feel any thing odd. I turned the idler pulley as well and hear a slight noise but doesn't seem to be the culprit as it only makes the noise when the ac is on.

Im having this same issue at the moment. Rattling sound comes up when the gear is changed from park position then at a low RPM. It gets worse when the AC is turned on. Anyone found the solution yet? I've changed the belt, tensioner and yet nothing has changed

I have an 06 f150 Xlt 4.6 also with a click from the A/c compressor. Not as prominent as yours but I have cold air coming. Not sure what it is maybe a low charge. Gonna diagnose it and check back.

I just had my coil replaced as the belt broke and it wiped out the wire and harness. Now it makes this loud rattling noise mostly on cold start and very bad with the AC on, but only when you hit the gas. Any ideas? If I turn the AC off it does it for a bit but then eventually goes away, but the car still doesnt sound as it was before.

I added pag oil to my ride, clicking tapping noise has stopped and ac is blowing colder. Make sure you add the right type of ac compressor oil, there’s several type and the right amount.
