Keeping Deer and Moose Out of Our Garden Using a Repurposed Family Fence. #gardening #homestead
We built this fence to look pretty using fencing we reclaimed from the old family farm. We also hope to keep the deer and moose out. We will be building a secondary mote fence to keep the deer from jumping over as well. Stick around to the end to see a tour of the milking station and other memorable areas from Kelsi's childhood.

Raspberry jam is the best. Hopefully you’ll be able to make some. ❤
We're going camping to pick huckleberries next week. We like to do raspberry/huckleberry jam as well. :)
Awesome!
@@claraanderson1305 the kids having been begging for quite some time. Our oldest has had pigs on his Santa list for a couple years now. :)
Same mother?
No. They are from two separate mares.
lambs
Good guess. We'll see. :)
Goats or pigs!
Great guesses. We'll find out soon. :)
❤ They seem to understand.
@@JasRaymond1 They love the kids! They know they get treats when the kids talk with them. :)
Looks like it works good 👍
Yep. We pulled about fifteen altogether.
Name one Buggs.
@@jenniferd1111 there are so many cute ones in this litter. We're kind of partial to the solid cream colored one. :)
This is the stupidest video this month
Ha ha. Thanks for your feedback. :)
@@familyfunhomesteadingandDIY don't pay attention to them- it was a great video. We used a similar technique to get stubborn T-posts out of the ground (decomposed granite absolutely won't let go of those things if the ground is dry), and it works great!
@@advena996 thanks for your kindness. We always need to spread more of it. :)
A 4x4 with a tow strap and an old spare wheel works pretty well also.
Thanks! I'll have to give that a try sometime. I've heard that works really well. :)
Bro leave them alone
Ha ha. Sounds good. :)
Sprinkle some treats to where ya want, also if you hold a towel stretched creating a wall between your legs you can corral chickens easily.
Thanks for the great tips! I've never thought of using a towel to help herd them along. :)
look into electriculture, makes everything grow big and also heat/frost resistance
I've never heard of that. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip!
how's that Global warming working for ya ?????
Ha ha. I wouldn't mind getting bumped to a zone 6 growing zone or something like that. :)
But why?
It's so frustrating! We're in the best water year we've seen in years with most of our reservoirs completely full. The issue is a fight between ground water farmers versus surface water irrigators. They are fighting because our aquifers under ground are low. So sad for 500,000 acres of farmers.
😢 so much love for the farmers.
Yeah, it's so sad. They've turned off the water to 500,000 acres of farmland in Idaho. I'm very worried for them. We're going on two weeks without water and no agreement in sight.
Support this man and his family. You are the backbone of America sir and we appreciate you. Nothing but love for you and your family.
Thanks for your kindness! We love what we do, and we love our country! :)
I love it they are immaculate young men very proud .. must have great parents ❤
They're pretty awesome kids...despite having imperfect parents! :)
I really like this idea
It has worked great for us. I've done a few follow up short videos to show how well they work for eating the grass. :)
Poor girl She got a boys name
Believe it or not, she's all girl. :)
Love the little one's enthusiasm and the pureness of her voice ♾️✌️💯
She is full of life, that is for sure! :)
Looks like so much fun!!
The kids were loving it. :)
very smart, looking to replicate but didn't see how you cut them. Not sure how much of a pain it was
I have some other videos showing before and after of how well they do eating and weeding if you're interested.
Good job!
Thanks for watching!
You’re heavily abusing those poor buns, please do your bloody research before purchase. If you’d like I’ll happily give you some of mine.
Thanks for your feedback. :)
Mmmm spargle
Yep. It's probably our favorite spring treat! I always loved harvesting it off ditch banks with my grandma as a kid.
@@familyfunhomesteadingandDIY Oma?
My grandma and I had a special relationship. We did lots together. Asparagus hunting was just one of the many. :)
Is it difficult to sell them?
It just depends. Sometimes they go quickly and other times it takes forever. I think part of it is how many other people in the area are trying to sell at the same time.
So regular rabbits
Yep. It is meant to mimic how they would live together in the wild normally. :)
Mine love that corn silk tassel silk ,..LOVE IT!!
Yes, ours do too! Some years I'll dry the husks and then store them in feed bags for the winter.
Oh my, snow! Congratulations guys, seems like they love the colony house!
They do. They're always running from one end to the other. :) I like that it gives them more space and access to grass to eat.
What breed is your bunnies? Looking forward tocolony updates!
They are standard Rex rabbits. They have the softest fur of any rabbit breed. They make great pets but can also be used as meat rabbits if desired.
What are Colony Rabbits?
It just means that you are raising them together and allowing them to breed and raise bunnies on their own schedule. I hope that helps. :)
I can honestly say that I was not expecting that fact
I know. :) I got a little chuckle out of it when I read the article.
Great tips, thanks!
You bet! I'm glad it was helpful! ☺️
Nice, simple explanation. German-American farmers used to say, "Prune so that you can throw a cow through the tree."
@@bruceboettcher9977 Ha ha. I love that.;)
Hi guys! It's Cousin Cara! Your family is so cute! Great video. Where did you order your asparagus starts?
Thanks! We ordered them from Kriegers nursery. They were the cheapest we found. We're also getting some strawberries to companion plant.
@@familyfunhomesteadingandDIY great!
What do you do about predators?
The run is still connected to the coop, so they sleep in that. It keeps them safe at night. We've used the tunnel all last summer and fall and haven't had any losses. We have lots of hawks, owls, and a few eagles that fly around, and it is great for protecting from aerial predators. Things like skunks and raccoons haven't be brave enough to come during the day either.
He's a huge Bunny❤❤❤
Yep and he's super sweet. My son spoils him. :)
He's a standard Rex, so he's super soft as well.
Thanks for the tip🎉🎉🎉🎉
You bet! It worked out really well for us. It subsidizes our cost quite a bit too!
Minecraft sweatshirt. You don’t have to abandon every reference to technology especially if it’s a warm and cozy part.
My kids definitely still enjoy their screentime. I just like to keep it as little as possible. Playing in the dirt is way better for a person's health. :)
You do kow that blackberries will take over your property right? They are worse for spreading than mint plants!!
Yes, we lived in Washington for a couple years. People treated them like weeds there. We Loved them. :) Their spreading nature is why we are planting them where we are though. It will help us contain them a little better. :)
I really like these age updates. How does taking care of them change?
It hasn't changed a while lot yet. The biggest thing at this point is handling them regularly, so they are nice and tame. I'm the next couple of weeks they will start eating a TON more food as the stop nursing.
Dog looks so happy that everyone is trying out one of his favorite activities.
Ha ha. He was loving it. I am a little worried that he might come back and dig them up behind us though. 😀
I love that you have so many little helpers.
They're the best help. We worked them pretty hard yesterday all day, so we rewarded them with a movie in the evening. :)
You’re teaching the future. Recording the lesson will be a good reference for when they are grown along with a great childhood memory
That's our biggest reason for TH-cam videos actually. We lost my father in law to cancer a couple years ago, and it has really made us think about preserving memories and knowledge for our posterity.
My chickens have no interest in eating weeds. Probably spoiled
Interesting. Yeah, I wonder why. Mine have always been good about eating or at least destroying any plants in their path. :)
Feeding schedule is the obvious factor
Yeah, that could be. I generally just free feed mine, so they always have access to layer pellets. They love any greens or scraps they can find though. :)
Scare crow will work
Thanks for watching! I would like to make a scarecrow.
Great job guys! Do you plan on using the rabbits for meat and fur or are they just for the poo fertilizer?
We've done meat in the past, but we haven't in a long time. My oldest son wants to make a winter hat and gloves out of some though, so maybe at some point we'll butcher so we can save the furs. :)
Is it safe for chickens to eat Costcos rotisserie chicken?
Yes, we've done that before too. They gobble it up. :)
Have you already tried adding table salt? Will that work or spoil all the water?
I've actually never tried it. I've heard that it works. I just don't know if my kids would be diligent enough at adding it properly.
People in suburbs- don’t order chip drop unless you split it with the whole neighborhood
Good point. I've heard you can get a ton when that happens. I'd love to get even more. It makes such a great mulch!
