Everly Brothers in Knoxville and downtown Knoxville scenes
This is the last video of our Everly Brothers 'trilogy' from our last Tennessee road trip. In Knoxville we visit Everly Brothers Park and West High School where the Everly Brothers attended until 1955.
#everlybrothers #phileverly #doneverly #knoxville #countrymusic #50s #60s #rocknroll
Take a look at our other travel content at: @OceanHops
You can find great Everly Brothers info at everly.net
Then we head to downtown Knoxville and find spots on the Cradle of Country walking tour which includes stops for the Everly Brothers, Elvis, Dolly Parton, Chet Atkins and Hank Williams. The Hank Williams stop at what was the Andrew Johnson Hotel is interesting as it suggests Hank Williams died in the hotel and was carried out by his driver before raising the alarm that Hank Williams was dead in the back of the car in West Virginia. While we were in Gatlinburg we made a brief stop outside Gatlinburg Inn which is where songwriters Boudleaux and Felice Bryant resided many years and where they wrote Rocky Top.
Everly Brothers Park The Everly Brothers grew up performing with their parents Ike and Margaret as the Everly Family In 1953 they moved from Iowa to Knoxville to perform on WROL radio. The family lived near this park in the Bearden community and the boys attended West High School. Acting on advice from Chet Atkins, a family friend, they left for Nashville after Don's graduation in 1955. Everly Brothers Park. Without the Everly Brothers there might not have been the Hollies or Crosby Stills and Nash. They were our vocal heroes - Graham Nash, Thanks to Phil and Don for inspiring me - Carole King. The Everly Brothers music was a huge inspiration for me growing up. Brian Wilson The Everly Brothers impact exceeds even their fame. They were a big influence on Simon and Garfunkel. Phil and Don were the most beautiful sounding duo I ever heard. The Everly's were part of the birth of rock and roll - Paul Simon. Art Garfunkel. With their biggest hits from their Bye Bye Love, All I Have To Do Is Dream, Cathy's Clown and Wake Up Little Susie, the legendary Everly's, talented singers, songwriters and guitarists were rock and roll pioneers The Everly Brothers still remain unsurpassed in bringing their traditional brotherly harmonies into early rock and roll musical Heroes of the highest order they played a big part in inspiring most everybody who heard and wanted to play music Bob Dylan I can never think of the Everly Brothers without knowing that they were actually four people involved and the other two were Felice Bryant and Boudleaux Bryant who wrote all of those beautifully written songs and so well suited to the boys voices Keith Richards It says the Everly Brothers distinctive sound influenced a generation of musicians including the Beatles Simon and Garfunkel and the Beach Boys The brothers considered their parents Ike and Margaret to be instrumental in their success along with Bo Diddley, Chet Atkins, composers Boudleaux and Felice Bryant and their West High Principal Mr R E C Love. Phil Everly was one of my great heroes and with his brother Don they were one of the major influences on the Beatles. When Jon and I first started to write songs I was Phil and he was Don - Paul McCartney. Their music was so simple and brilliant. Joan Baez We owe these guys everything, they started it all - Bob Dylan The Everly Brothers occupy a special place in rock and roll history. They sold over 40 million records, had 53 Billboard top 100 singles and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Vocal Groups Hall of Fame. I was taken by the sound of the Everly Brothers from my early teens. I was so fortunate to tour with them from the reunion concert on for 26 years. A dream gig for which I am truly grateful - Albert Lee
The Everly Brothers' harmonies and rockabilly swagger were pure magic Cathy's Clown in itself is a music lesson in harmony singing - Nancy Wilson. The Everly Brothers gave us the beauty and power of their family blend. They were the very best - Ann Wilson. The Everlys made timeless records with the best harmonies. They were a huge inspiration to me and so many others - Elton John To the Everly Brothers I say 'I Will Always Love You' - Dolly Parton.
The Everly Brothers Park honoring Phil and Don Everly The city of Knoxville Department of Parks and Recreation and support from Everly family members, Don Everly, Margaret Everly, Patty Everly, and Venetia Ember Everly.
The Everly family were on (radio) WROL from '53 to sometime in '55 when they were, shall we say, released by Cas Walker, the the head of that radio station as the Everlys were getting a little too un-country for the station because they were starting to get influenced by Bo Diddley and they had heard Elvis on the radio and that was the direction they were going in and they were letting the hair grow.

      @robinpunter4377 Hi Robin. Yes, it took 20mins to walk to the Albert Dock area and not the most scenic route! There's nothing close outside the hotel grounds, at least not 2 yrs ago when we were there. Hallo Ilona.

    I was also a big fan of EC and Gene Vincent. I am 78 now and so fortunate to have been present with the birth of rock 'n roll. I got Be Bop a Lula on a 78 rpm record for Christmas. What a time for real music. Buddy Holly with Peggy Sue was incredible. Bill Haley, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, I could go on for hours. Thank you for this video as I knew how EC died but I was not aware of his popularity in England. I am a native Texan from Houston, hello to England. My deceased wife's parents were from England and as nice a pair of in-laws as you could imagine.

      Hi Mark. It must have been great being at the start of it, especially in the US. There was a rock n roll revival here in the UK late 70s/early 80s, but the originals were always remembered over here. Thanks for watching 👍

    Modernisation took over ... sad 😢 TBH ... Ibelieve Tommy's story as didn't Tommy join the Merchant Navy and had ended up in New York possibly around the time that Elvis was there in his early career. Seeing as Tommy was into music too, he may have had an opportunity to meet him, before the hordes took over, so to speak.

    • @OceanHops
      @OceanHops 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi June. Yes, sad these old buldings have gone. With regards Tommy, he supposedly took him around London in a taxi while Elvis was serving in Germany. Elvis had more 'privileges' than other soldiers but even if he did manage to swing it with a trip to the UK, I believe there's no way that it could have been kept a secret all these years. Red West and Lamar Fike were with him in Germany, and over the years they've told of 'secrets' like the drugs etc , so I'm sure they would have mentioned a sneaky trip to London over the years if it actually happened. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

    Eddie as always been a. Faverite of mine, i was lucky enough to see and meet Gene Vincent i was a friend of the managers son, at the grand theatre wolverhampton, is a few years after eddie ad died, and i remember he got very sad when i mentioned eddie, i was the only one allowed in is dressing room that night, it was a show, there were a group backing im then, called the outlaws, there were some other good Rockers on, but i cant remember who they were, thanks for your tribute, phil johnson.

    As a mad Elvis fan and of Scotland....this is heart-warming stuff. Yes, the resemblance to John Wallace can be seen in Elvis. "Elvis Wallace" definitely wouldn't have the same quality as "Elvis Presley" continues to be, but love it just the same. Thank you for this historical video on Elvis' heritage 💯⚡❤️
