Invidia UEL Header 2022+ WRX Dyno Run
Today was tune revision day. Car went up on the dyno at EFI Logic’s to get tuned for the Invidia UEL header. Final numbers were 287whp/ 326wtq (last tune 287/335). Torque curve and horsepower curve changed too, which is to be expected on UEL and a twin scroll turbo. Overall the car sounds amazing and feels amazing after a refreshed tune! Videos don’t do the header justice! Also the plan is to do some exhaust swap out to really hear the UEL rumble.

You read the title right! Invidia sent their new UEL header for me to install on my 2022 Subaru WRX! I covered everything from unboxing and showing all the gaskets that are included with the header, OEM header removal and finally Invidia’s UEL header installation with some sound clips at the end! Couple revs with the new exhaust. Nameless resonated mid pipe with muffler deletes and 3.5” single wall tips. Still has the deeper tone that Nameless is good for and almost no drone when driving.

Took a ride to EFI Logics today to get my WRX tuned. Awesome people a pleasure to deal with! Mods are: Perrin intake, Perrin charge pipe and Nameless resonated cat back with muffler deletes. Car made 287whp/337wtq on a conservative 93 tune.

Freshly installed Nameless resonated mid pipe with muffler deletes and the 3.5” single wall tip option. Just the right amount of loud and no drone inside the car! Definitely has the crackle and pops if you’re looking for those! Very happy with the sound and the amazing quality of all the parts installed!

I’ve compiled some footage over the last week of my new exhaust. This is the 5” axle back muffler option from Nameless Performance. I went with the 3” double walled polished tips to keep it looking close to factory. This kit is perfect if you’re looking for a nice deep tone that isn’t ridiculously loud and obnoxious. Their scaling is perfect on the website as far as loudness. Definitely louder ...

How much horse power and torque did those headers achieve over stock..??
I’m not sure. I was tuned previously and got an updated revision after installing the header.
Sounds good, you can hear it when the revs climb down it wants to get air again and unleash some sounds

Is a cat back worth it compared to axle back?
I started out with just an axle back. It’s a good option if you’re looking to save money and get some sound out of the car. However I personally would go full cat back. The resonated mid pipe cut out a lot of the drone I was having at highway speeds. I also liked the tone more from a full cat back opposed to just the axle back mufflers.

Hey do you have a high pitch whistle after blowout sounds with yours?? After my blowout sounds and flutter, there is a high pitch whistle, kinda like a launching screaming firework, is this normal??
Sup bro I have a Perrin intake and yes I hear that sometimes. It’s a con I’ve heard in some reviews so you’re not alone. I hear it a little bit most of the time but tbh it doesn’t bother me

@@That_White_WRX_22 really? Hm. HeavyMetal Wrx was the first I heard Point it out. Again, it’s pretty subtle and personally doesn’t make me like it any less. It sounds amazing imo

Does this affect the twin scroll? Is this bad for the engine?
It induces a little bit of turbo lag. As long as you get tuned for it it’s perfectly fine.

Sounds awesome! I don't care what anyone says, I'm totally fine with losing a little torque, hey it saves life on the Clutch right? Just broke 2k miles and I'm ready do drain my bank account.
I really like the sound, I’m not against uel header I actually like them but quite a bit of tq lost in the mid range it looked like. Maybe he didn’t step on it as hard?
Definitely some noticeable turbo lag induced with this header on the car. I personally enjoy it, but I’m thinking that’s what’s reflecting on the dyno sheet.

What is the db reading for the exhaust volume?

I don’t have this exact exhaust setup on my car anymore so I unfortunately wouldn’t be able to get a decibel reading for you. Sorry man!

Were you able to reinstall the under tray? I know the JDmuscle headers you can’t really get it back on
Yes but had to modify it slightly. Had to remove the air duct but it fit fine after that.
Subscribed! I was impressed by this video style and clear footage until you got to the most crucial parts and unfortunately you didn't show any of it 😅 1) How old/many miles on your car? You show no drama at all breaking the nuts loose that other shops have all commented WILL be stripped. That's a good thing but you are one in a million making it look that easy! 2) Could not see how you had to wiggle the header & turbo housing apart and it was hard to understand exactly what you described for the reinstallation and removal of the brackets... I wish you had propped the phone up on a water bottle or anything instead of cutting the video during the most difficult part. This happens to a lot of other almost-perfect installation guides lol. When it gets hard and requires two hands, the camera is sacrificed instead of propped. Its the part we all came to see!!!! Maybe Invidia told you not to show that part... But anyway I'm really glad you put together this video and the sound clips. Subscribed! I want to follow the build of this car and its lifespan with the UEL.
I appreciate the feedback! As it was my first install video I’ve ever done it’s helpful to know what I can do better. I’m actually going to be removing the header again to heat wrap it so I will do a more in depth video on how to wiggle it off the turbo housing. As far as the studs and nuts go they gave me no issues at all. Just took my time and let the penetrating oil sit for a little while before going to break them loose. Also using the right tool for the job is a big help. Thanks again for the positive feedback!
As far as year and miles my car is a 2022 and had 24,400 miles at the time of install. So plenty of heat cycles and I live in New England so harsh winters with lots of salt and moisture.
Man it sounds amazing, thanks for sharing! But your startup here is definitely a warm start, not a cold start right? I didnt hear an rpm shift and it was mega quiet, so I assume it was pre-warmed and went right to 760 rpm instead of 1700 rpm. Also, how hard was the diy install? Saw JDmuscle's video last year and they had to redo the turbo bolts 😮
Thank you! Yea that was warm. I have a cold start video on my phone, was waiting to get a few more sound clips to piece them together to make another video. It’s not a very bad job at all. Just take your time and use the correct tools for the job. Let the penetrating oil sit on the nuts/studs for a while before trying to break them loose.
UEL Looses power on a twin scroll = fail and inefficient. Just dumb and still doesn't sound like an EJ.

Yes I uploaded a dyno day video! No gains, lost some low end torque but I expected as much going from EL to UEL on a twin scroll turbo.

Were you able to install the skid plate with the uel headers?
With some slight modification, yes. Just have to remove the air duct and you can re install the plastic skid plate back up.

Did you need to remove the three head studs? Saw them do it in another video
Nope! You can actually move the whole turbo housing out of the way just enough to slide the header out just by loosening a could extra bolts and brackets!
Is it safe without tune?
I would definitely get a tune after installing a header

I was previously tuned on 93. 9wtq loss with the UEL header after a revised tune.
That’s not Much loss, on the old FA20 you would lose about 20-30WHP

that's a dumb question. the goal was obviously to get the subaru "rumble" that the EJ has

If I had to guess JDMuscle runs high 900, Invidia is probably on the higher side alone just based of brand AND its a full functional Twinscroll header, $1,400 easy. I’m preordering immediately.

@@That_White_WRX_22 local guy to me had one and went back to stock it had too much drone for daily use. Tomei would be perfect. I ran tomei on my 21 STI before getting VB and loved it!
