On a Dub Tip : OB6/Verbos/Alphabase
มุมมอง 4.5Kปีที่แล้ว
I've been listening to a lot of Deepchord and Rhythm & Sound lately, and while tweaking a sequence on the OB6 I ended up with this little stab, so I though why not jam this one a bunch, tweak El Capistan, turn some knobs, add a clap... For some reason I only recorded 4 minutes so I looped it so it runs a bit longer. Dub mixing with a mouse is very meh, anyone selling a APB DynaSonics ProRack Ho...

Making Dub Techno with a Modular Synth

It's nice to switch things up sometimes to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Can the Modular Dub Techno ?
มุมมอง 3.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I've had an inkling for a while that the Bark filter and a good tape delay would basically be dub techno in a nutshell, so I finally gave it a go. The drone had me daydreaming of gargantuan agricultural equipment harvesting on alien moons so I call that a success.
@@mynewcolour this drone lead me to places I wouldn’t go with a gun
Great review and so inspiring video! I'm interested what version of T-Resonator do you use?
@@thisistrigger thank you ! The one I had (sold it since) was the T-Res II
Bit off topic but how does the Overstayer Module and Elysia Eq in this context work/ how does it affect the sound exactly? i was taken by surprise when it was introduced at 44:37 Any tips on how to recreate this digitally? maybe with ableton stock plug ins? This is something i really miss in my production cycle and i would be grateful for a little nudge on how to achieve similar results
@@Metal_Health_Worker it’s mostly eq/saturation/compression to taste. The Elysia plug ins are really good, there’s also an overstayer plug in I hear is good but you can definitely try with the stock ableton which are great. The saturator is quite versatile, the drum bus , roar etc
what a grenade of a loop
@@markusshoggu thank you !
Love those "simple" loops as well... Hypnotic and mesmerizing. Nice :)
Mid-set bliss ✨
I feel like is a really good solution to start. Personally I don't like a lot the aesthetic but that's sound very well, you show this in a beautiful way with this video.
You can't go wrong and you'll learn a lot with this system. A little room to grow as well !
would love to see the same video for the Cwejman SM-1 ;)
It's on the list for sure
Salut merci pour ta vidéo , tu as quoi comme ordi ? Merci
Un mac mini M2 pro
I always advise people to go to Doepfer first... how something looks has nothing to do with the sounds, this is not a fashion show. If Doepfer don't have what you need (rare) then look at other options..
It's not a fashion show for sure, and Doepfer has a super clean layout. But the looks also play into the interface which also plays into the pleasure you'll derive from using your instrument so I can understand if others prefer something else. Looks/interface is what draw me to Verbos in the first place for example.
I recently fitted an A-121s (state variable stereo filter). The amount of inputs is crazy. I think the reputation for Doepfer making ‘basic’ stuff is probably dated now. It’s killer.
@@mynewcolour they have a lot of modules, some really out there ones too !
I’m wondering why the parameters i set for one pattern is the same for another pattern on a different bank? Does the alpha bass not save individual parameters for different patterns?
They are not linked. The parameters are separate to the patterns. I think it's a strength !
thank you for the reply. how do you save the parameters??? great vid btw!
🚀
What a nice sound ❤ i still dont understand how you manage to get totally different sound of atlantis with the main out and the sine. You feed a sequence of metropolis into cv/gate of atlantis but and generate 2 voices over 1 sequence. But how do you process the sine out of atlantis? What vca do you use for it?
Another question, do you process your whole sound through the bark filter or just the plethora?
no VCA no nothing for the sine, straight into the mixer !
Only the main out of Atlatis is going through the Bark filter
@@LucasMarchal huge! Thanks for the fast replay! Your vids are major inspiration for my liveset! ♥️
Would love to see how you create the kick and bass sounds. Im facing the issue that i dont have enought pressure on them, maybe frequencies colide etc. and how you put them to octatrack
Recorded entire albums with just the most basic Doepfer modules.
There's probably a few more hiding there too !
Is chants of krak one of them? Sounds great
Go on, doepfer is always underrated..
Great! A full review of Doepfer! I don't have a "system" but I do have a lot of Doepfer modules. If you have a problem, Doepfer has a module to solve it!
Very cool to see a Saul Leiter book in the background. Are you a photographer?
It was my first serious hobby ! Still take a lot of pictures. Saul Leiter has been a favorite of mine for a long long time.
@@LucasMarchal do you have an Instagram account for your photography? I would love to see some of the pictures.
Your camera auto focus is pretty annoying
I know I have to do something about it for the next one.
@@LucasMarchal Just turn on the manual focus and lock it to the modular. Cheers
see the original is best, not much need for fancy arguably overpriced modules!! lovely
Doepfer is always a great option for sure ! But it's fun to explore what other brands have to offer as well :)
new vid from my favorite modular techno channel. the Doepfer sounds big
Thank you ! It does sound great
Awesome, always look forward to your videos, very enlightening ....also love your verbos videos...killer!
Thank you !
Great stuff !
Thank you !
Thank you for posting this!! I haven't been able to try any of the Doepfer systems in person, this is the highest quality video on the topic I've come across so it's really helpful.
You're welcome ! it was my first experience with a full Doepfer system and I really enjoyed it. High quality
@@LucasMarchalis there anything that comes to mind to put into the extra space on the bottom row out of curiosity?
@@emuhunter1 I might put a sinple analog sequencer to make it truly stand alone?
Congratulations for bringing out the nasty and gnarly side of Doepfer! I've not heard anyone do that before.
Honestly it's close to the surface ! no big effort need to make it sound gnarly :)

Doepfer is great, especially utilities but 3k euros for this system is still bit too high IMO
You'll have a hard time finding a full modular system priced below 3k...
@@LucasMarchal yeah true that...Actually I didn't know but Doepfer offers even cheaper systems (e.g. System 1)! They are actually keeping their prices quite low, it's honorable.
Epic patch dude.
Thank you !

yes ! always fun to try new things
@@LucasMarchal Of course!!! 👌👌👌👌

@@LucasMarchal do tell! :-) what made you changed the approach to having a separate drum machine? Thanks

Dfam proving black panels are gross
I never got the black panel craze...
Hi what is sequencing the atlantis?
Its the dark time for pitch and gate in this video right? But whats modulating row 2 on dark time? Filter mod to my ears is that right? Again and again lovely explanations man! Love to see people share their knowledge!
@@vanluud yes I used the dark time. It can be configured so that row 2 sequences the gate length which has an impact on the envelope and thus on the filter !
Oh man. What is this Overstayer sorcery at 44:38. Do you bring that to live gigs as well?! Can’t imagine. Sounds amazing though.
@@molina.unofficial i don’t ! It’s way too expensive and huge
Do you only run the AB through the Overstayer? Or do you use as a master bus for all hardware (and possibly software)
yes I use it on everything most of the time :)
@@LucasMarchal thank you
The best Atlantis video demonstration, amazing dude ❤
@@axelgadeyne8988 thank you !!
hey Lucas, great vid - thanks. What are you sending into the Pam's clock in? are you clocking the Modular through drum machine or maybe Octa? cheers :)
It depends on which drum machine I'm bringing. If it's the TR-09 I just use the trig output. If its the RE-909 then I bring the ERM Multiclock although I could also use the trig output; but I like having the added flexibility of the Multiclock (it adds shuffle, individual start stop etc... )
@@LucasMarchal thanks man : )
when is a new video coming? this channel is pure asmr for me, have watched your vids multiple times lol
I have one filmed I need to edit, I though i'd do it quicker over the summer but still haven't started. Should be out before school is back :)
Hi Lucas, I love your videos mate! have you tried sealegs from intellijel
Only extremely briefly in a store, so can't say much about it.
@@LucasMarchal ah ok. I know you are a big fan of intellijel that's why I asked! im between those two delays.
@@Artinmotionmusic I know A Thousand Details rates it highly ! I think he has a video coming out on it.
thanks for very inspiring videos! a have a question - do you use RME totalmix and use the modular channel as an insert, or do you have everything hooked up to a mixer? Are you happy with the workflow that you have chosen (whichever it is)?
Hi, I don't use totalmix, never really got into it. My main interface is the Motu 16a with the RME UC as adat. All the instruments go straight in to the interface and I have my FX set up as send return. The overstayer is set up as an insert as well. I mix in Ableton. I'm happy with the setup, it just works. I'd love a good mixer in the future but that will be in the next iteration of the studio as I don't have the space right now.
thank you
Hey man, thank you for the content, one question I have on arrangement while recording with external gear is: do you follow traditional arrangement for variations (like every 8 or 16 bars) or do you just go and make variations when you feel like it while the jam flows? Thanks
@@lorenzofasanomusic i used to do it totally by feel now I pay a bit more attention to it; but also don’t care too much.
TH-cam brought me here. This is good stuff! Just curious though, after checking out your channel, do you still do these sets?
@@fisven not that often, I focus on proper gigs now! I have a couple (live) podcast coming up in September though
Hey!
