Rock & Roll Legends - Gen AI Video test
I've been dabbling in Gen AI video. This is a powerful tool. It's going to have a serious impact on people, creatives & professions, especially in Film & TV, both negatively and positively. The estates of legacy music artists/bands will probably use it for releases of new/re-released material, using this tech to create videos for said releases. the technology has controversy surrounding it and it's still not quite there yet, as fine tuning is required for nuance, movement etc - The idea for this is Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Ray Charles, Ritchie Valens and Ringo Starr are all on stage with each other, performing. If the issues around recompense for what this tech has scraped/machine learned from existing video out there is resolved, what's to stop this tech creating new movies or concerts or albums etc featuring our heroes ??!
What are your thoughts on it all ?? List your Negative & Positive points regarding Gen AI video/music etc

Vocal demo of a classic post Buddy Crickets. One of my fav post Holly Crickets releases, as sung by Jerry Naylor. Jerry asked me in 2011 and 2013 to support him on his UK Tour, where he was promoting his Rockabilly Legends CD albums project. Sadly my support slot with Jerry didn't come to fruition, twice !. I can't recall if Glen Campbell sung harmony in the Crickets release of the song in the ...

I recorded this some years back, and by god it helped me understand orchestration, as I back engineered it to work out string arrangements in Buddy Holly's original. I now compose my own orchestral pieces, which can be heard on TH-cam (Espedair Music). Buddy's New York string sessions with Dick Jacobs were a huge learning curve and inspiration to me. What size guitar picks/soze do you use for acoustic and electric on buddys songs
Not too rigid, normal size, Buddy used hard picks I think and thick string gauge, poss with a round third.
Fender medium is what I use for electric and I use the Dunlop .60mm or sometimes fender thin
For acoustic
Great composition !
Thanks for listening :-)
This is absolutely fantastic! I’ve loved Buddy’s rehearsal recording of this tune for so long and I’ve always wondered what an official Crickets recording of this would’ve sounded like and you’ve done it absolutely perfectly. Lots of love from a huge Buddy Holly fan!
Cheers Ian, I love it too and always wondered how it would have sounded also. Im going to record with same arrangement as Buddy did, soon, just haven't had time to do so, but will. Rave On. Pete. PS: I have an acoustic guitar type video demonstration of how Buddy played his version. In the video section somewhere.
Amazing job, you did such a good job in keeping up with his vibe its even impressing!
Cheers :-)
Absolutely great video, would love if you could post more of these informative videos about things people often overlook when discussing Buddy.
Many thanks riffties. Yep, I have a few more coming regarding Buddy, and also, other key names in the story/background to Buddy/The Crickets. Websitec coming soon too, with profiles on them all and info etc. Thanks for watching :-)
Nice Job Pete.
Thanks :-)
We are a long way from great results but it would be interesting to see the tool used for making representations of lost performances. First that comes to mind is Sam Cooke’s preformance on the tonight show. It was destroyed but maybe in the future we could get a recreation with the help of Ai.
Yep. That's what I was thinking, along those lines. I can see the Estates of legacy artists embracing this, and thus controlling the likeness before someone else does and derives a revenue from it. Could be the new Bootlegging ?! It's quite scary what it can do, but a long way off for feature length type footage, but it is quite powerful. Imagine Buddy, Ritchie, Big Bopper estates coming together to produce a last tour biopic and they control the narratives !?
Lo & behold, just as we were discussing, an AI company is in talks with the Estates od deceased legacy artists for new projects >>> musically.com/2024/12/02/bmg-parent-companys-elevenlabs-deal-includes-ai-music-plans/
Terrible !
How so ? Im not disagreeing, just looking for your take
I’d be such a better guitar player with some extra fingers and a third leg.
Imagine the extra notes achieved with six fingers and how cool a 3 legged stance would be ;-)
This is cool. Cooler than the hairs on a polar bears bum.
lol excellent. That made me & my 12 yr old laugh. I'll keep that saying for another occasion 🙂
Buddy Holly foi uma inspiração do quanto pode se elevar o espirito humano na arte musical, em um meio já praticamente estabelecido. Great Holly !

@thecricketssoundproject thank you for that. That's sweet. I feel like he had a lot of influence on me that's for sure.
@@earlsinks2666 Wish he had the opportunity to record more songs with them at the time. No doubt, Gen AI will do something along those lines soon.
@thecricketssoundproject the A.I stuff is a bit spooky with what it can do.
@@earlsinks2666 It sure is, some of the videos I've seen are surreal ! weird
Nice use of echo and throbbing guitar sound
Great version - nice mix
Thanks Andrew, wish I could remix it, drums/bass not really defined as much as I now wish. Lost the recording session in Cubase, due to hard drive failure. Not to worry :-)
Another brilliant song, written by Buddy, simple and well covered by you.I also quite enjoy Keith Richards version, its a bit different.
I wonder what he would have done with the Apartment Tapes songs, how he would have produced them, what instrumentation etc. We can but wonder. I think that was also his entry point into recording too, Im convinced he would have gone into the movies (he was taking acting lessons, photos done by NY photographer Bruno), and composed for film, he was working with Dick Jacobs, orchestration etc. He would have been a massive and powerful force in the music and film industry. Hans Zimmer of his time ?!
Nice cover Pete, its amazing how a simple melody can be so enchanting .
Thanks Keith. Yeh, it is indeed. And its so simple, that it is very hard to write songs so simple and memorable, as you'll know. Undisciplined songwriters, especially when starting out, are all over the place with melody, it takes time and effort to create a song which is catchy, albeit, simple, that's the beauty of it. Difficult but simple. I like Don McLean's version, also love Busey's version too, in the BH Story.
@@thecricketssoundproject Thanks for your in-depth reply, when you listen to his songs you think why can't I come up with something original but it always seems to be a copy of one of his tunes.
A great version - well done Pete!
Thanks Andrew, an older demo from some years back.

Really good version Pete, but Bobby Fullers is the best I think, after all this time it makes the hairs stand up on my neck when I play it nice and loud.I use it for pass the parcel at Christmas with grand children and just cant help joining in.🙌
I love BF's version. The bass fastens the pace of it, whilst retaining the other original elements.
This Song is Amazing!!!! Thank You Very Much for keeping Buddy Holly's Sound and Style Alive and Well. God Bless You. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson RIP.❤️🎸🥁🎼🎵🎶
Thanks for listening Dave, very much appreciated :-)
@@thecricketssoundproject Thank YOU!!!! Buddy would be Proud and Honored by this Song. I think that Buddy Holly was the Grand Architect of Power-Pop. He created what I call the "Pop Song Template", the Winning Formula for a Hit Song. I always tell People that without Buddy Holly and The Crickets, there would be NO BEATLES. Listen to "Three Stars" by Eddie Cochran, who Himself, Died way too young, the following Year after Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Keep up the Good Work. You Guys are GREAT.👓🎸🎼🎵🎶🥁❤️⭐

Love Buddy Holly and The Crickets! Big fan for decades. Great tribute you song to Buddy! I think Buddy is smiling down. Thanks for the great song!
Many thanks Bruce, appreciated :-)
Buddy holly died just before i got married good times.
O.K....recall that I left a less than glowing review of this one a while back? I have to stand by it, but I sure have been digging other recordings of your project.
Jeez, this is also really fab. Have you had the good luck to hear any of the late great Billy Cowsill stuff recorded in the 80's and 90's? He called the sound he and Jeff Hatcher concocted "Hank goes to The Cavern". Your interpretation of this gem could be Hank Goes To Clovis.
How the, Wha The .... what mystical magic is this? Can I have some of whatever you are drinking? ANY proper hollywood production of a "fact based" Holly bio pic would be lucky to have tracks as great as this.
This one blew me away... You can kill hours on youtube without finding something as ace as this. I was a MEGA batman kid back when (and freakin' Buddy Holly fanatic later on), but only heard about these cuts in myth and mystery. You have made my day.
Treasures Charly, treasures to behold
Nice upload.
Listen, I can be a really cruel sob when it comes to folks messing about with Buddy Holly music, particularly when they take the original classic records and moronically add additional instrumentation in some half cocked attempt to "improve" them. On the other hand... you have shown courage and great skill by doing your own, all new and original version, and it ROCKS. Maybe not quite up there with the likes of the Bobby Fuller four or Terry Jacks, but a solid double up the middle. This is the right way to pay tribute to a legend. Have you any original songs in the Holly, Fuller or Crenshaw style? I would love to hear them.
Many thanks Charly. I have "Keep On Shining On" "The Ballad of Buddy Holly" and "if You Belonged To Me" on the TH-cam channel somewhere, Keep On Shining On is prob under Happy Birthday Buddy video, or in it rather.
A great tribute to Buddy who has now been reunited with the crickets drummer JI Allinson who recently passed away.
I just played this to my 85 year old father who saw Buddy in March 58, Salisbury, UK. He thought it was Buddy! So a big compliment to you - superb!
Awe many thanks Simon. Your father is so lucky to have seen Buddy in 58. What a joy that would have been ! Send your dad my regards and envy :-) Best, Pete.
Do you know the lead part that’s played on the electric guitar?
Yeh, it's just based around A minor Pentatonic blues scale, in the 5th fret and in the A chord.
@@thecricketssoundproject Ok, I don’t know my scales like I should but I’ll play around with it. Thanks.
@@travisowens8602 Do you learn by ear Travis ?
@@thecricketssoundproject Uhm, I can every once in a while but I’m not that great at it. It takes a little bit of both sight and sound for me.
@@travisowens8602 Eddie Cochrans "Milk Cow Blues" uses a similar lick, minor pentatonic blues scale in A. Very informative! Thanks for sharing. I love the guitar solo on Honey Honey and can't argue with it being the best in technical terms that Buddy ever did, but my favorite will easily remain the one Buddy did on Sherry Davis' record, "Broken Promises".
He was just so damn good Matthew, wasn't he ?! Apparently, he was also learning or took an interest in Flamenco guitar when he lived in NY. I personally feel he was heading into movies and would have scored for major films. He was taking acting lessons, had Pro photos done, and worked with String Orchestras. That would have set him on his new path in music. I think his session work on other artists songs were great, he was free to concentrate on them without singing himself. My other fav is Honky Tonk, which is exceptional. Jazz-Blues.
