If your rear window in your Bronco is having problems consistently sliding up or down, you may have gummed up window tracks. Watch this short video to get a visual on how to pull and clean those tracks. If that doesn't work, you may be looking at the window lift motor as the culprit. There is a hole in the plastic shroud under the tab on the ignition cylinder. you don't need to remove the shroud. you just stick a nail in the hole and the cylinder will pop out. you also don't need to remove the plastic piece. The entire job should take less than 60 seconds and aside from the nail, require no tools. Just remember that the key on the new cylinder need to be in the middle position. you can check this by depressing the tab on the bottom, if it pushes in, they key is the right spot. with that said, this video was helpful and thank you for making it.

    Excellent video except there is a hole in the bottom steering wheel plastic cover where you can insert a small Phillips screwdriver and push to release the cylinder locking tab. This saves removing any panels. Worked great on my 1998 Jeep wrangler.

    So why didn't you put the new key in, turn it to the Run position, then take your Screwdriver and put it in the 3rd hole you skipped over as it directly lines up to the Ignition Detent. Push up towards the key and then pull the Ignition and Key out of its housing then take off the Trim piece. Take the new key and ignition cylinder Replace the Trim Piece put the key in it and turn it to Run position slide it back in the Hole and turn the key to Off and remove key.. Done, no need to take anything Apart for 97 - 06 Jeep all Models

Anyone experience a similar issue? I discovered this when I purchased full doors with keys and discovered those keys started my Jeep. Thanks

    • @corymeares4424
      @corymeares4424 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly doubt it since you have to be able to slide that plastic square piece into the track and once bolted in, the travel it is allowed does not afford it the distance to pop out or in, which is good otherwise the arm would constantly fall out of the track.

    With the tailgate down you can close the latch (as if the tailgate closes, and then use the key as if the tailgate was up). Then you can release the latch with the handle to open it back up. I like the workaround but I didn’t need to use alternate battery, etc.

    Quick question. My radio and turn signals don’t work when I turn on my Jeep, but if I mess with the key when it is running, I can get them to come back on. Would replacing this possibly fix that or is it more complicated?

    • @corymeares4424
      @corymeares4424 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that issue has to do with the actuating rod that the lock cylinder pushes into the ignition switch. When you roll your key forward, the cylinder pushes a rod connected to the ign switch from the off position, past the run position, and into the start position. After starting, the rod returns the switch back to the run position but if it doesn't travel far enough back, the electrical system won't engage. You'll need to either adjust your ignition switch position on the column ( its made to be adjustable and inevitably slips out of place over time) or once you start the jeep, slowly roll the key back until the electrical system activates before the off position. Hope that helps some.

    • @metalhead4x448

      @@corymeares4424 Not necessarily my radio sometimes doesn't work but will work if I push in on the key. I noticed my key could be pulled out in all positions and realized that pushing it in harder made the radio come back on. So its not just the rod.

    Same thing happened to me and my 98 TJ: no key. I was not lucky. The key that came with the new cylinder did not work. I watched other videos in which people drilled out the pin from the face and just made a freaky mess. What I did was drill out the pin, the catch itself and it worked. In fact, it was a piece of cake. I hope this helps someone else who lost their key and doesn't have the key code--which are not maintained by the manufacturer after 10 years.
