Sometimes, the blade tells you what it wants to be. Nice work, regardless.
I got the exact shape I wanted, I guess it wanted to be Damascus instead of go-mai 🤣
That looks pretty sweet. Where did you purchase the handle material?
@@jasonerb8215 mad max custom knife handles, Joseph James I believe his name is. It’s on my facebook forge page somewhere
Thanks
So pretty
Nice profile!
Very nice work 👍 keep it up practice makes perfect
Thanks! It's always a learning experience.
Sweet looking blade brother!!!
I love it, this color combo came outnawesome
Awesome brother your one talented man that's a great blade what steel is that
8670, I wish I would have done a build video for this one
Luv it very nice blade brother 🇺🇲😅
I'm definitely going to have to own a couple of your blades brother 🇺🇲😎
I’ve got some ready

Nice grinding skills looks awesome brother 😎🙏
Brother your killing it, awesome brother nice piece
That's a sweet kukri, will definitely get any task it's giving done, simply said awesome work brother
Thanks brother, glad you like it!
Nice grinding skills handles are cool too brother 🇺🇲🙏😎
The Fatbelly is all about simple effective and clean
You do awesome work brother
Thanks man, means a lot I’ve been trying to do more TH-cam builds
Awesome stuff. I also like that you're using that particular anvil. I happen to know that it's cast steel, sounds good too. Curious how it will last and how it feels. KK
I absolutely love it, for the price I think it’s one of the best entry level anvils on the market
Very nice piece what is the price of that beauty
These go for $100, shoot me a message on the Little River Forge Facebook page and we can get you one shipped out.
Lived most of my life thinking the only folder was a SAK or a Buck. Still a full tang guy at heart. Grow and stay sharp. Your knowledge is alchemy to most of the rest of us.
I have a few good carry knives i cycle between.
How did your live stream go? I've been thinking about doing a giveaway as well, but ran into the same roadblocks as you have. Old hickory forge (thoughts and prayers!) uses patreon to manage his giveaways. I haven't checked, is it possible to set a 0 dollar donation amount and use it for our giveaway information?
I think it went well, it was mainly just me tryna figure out how live streaming works. I’m still relatively new to the whole TH-cam thing.
Very cool man. Do the knife you enjoy making most
Absolutely. That’s the plan.
@Little_River_Forge I subscribed because I liked what you were doing, shoot you inspired me to try welding literally today. I seen you hand doing patern welded steel by hand and said, yep it's time lol. After I welded the 2 pieces I forge welded them then did a taco and made a Keychain knife... small small billet lol. Thanks man you already did more for this Smith than any other channel
@@AP.Custom.Forgeworks it’s possible there wasn’t always power hammers and presses
@@Little_River_Forge it went swimmingly
I just subscribed! Love the handmade Damascus! Good on ya! Looking forward to more!
Thanks for the sub! I have some stuff planned coming soon that should be pretty cool.
Awsome love to have one for sure.
Central Florida checking in ,Just found your channel, great content 👍
Thank you. How did yall do during that hurricane?
@@Little_River_Forge decent, the house is okay but my shop took a hit. Thanks for asking. You do ok through it?
@@treyzmodels422 yea we got some good winds I’m in Suwannee county. We didn’t get it bad from this one.
Good looking knife
Thank you. It came out pretty good.
Another tip since you lost the 15n20 jacket because of it being so thin try doubling it up next time and put 2 layers of 15n20 for the jacket then your damascus and core. Just an idea. I like the way the pattern came out.
@@cae2487 I do too, it was supposed to be two billets of twist but one failed. This one was a last minute salvage attempt to use the billet
Can I get a link to that hammer?
I use Old Hickory Forge hammers. Sadly John was hit very hard by hurricane helene. Lost his shop his home and more.
I’m not sure if he has anything left for sale but you can check his Etsy store or I could ask him, I doubt he has anything available the storm took a lot from him.
That’s terrible
He’s a strong dude he’s going to bounce back especially with all of us behind him.
👍👍👍
I really love watching Damascus being made by hand. I'm a new smith myself and I don't have the fancy power hammers or hydraulic presses that the big shops have so to see this kind of thing done by hand is a real pleasure! And you now have a new subscriber.
@@brianfalls5038 I’ll be doing a lot of it on this channel. Subscribe and come hang out we can do some sort of build along or something
I heard John from old hickory forge was in hospital in bad shape and his fiancé is missing. Any news on that?
@@richardbryant7972 yes, sadly she was taken by the storm. John is in hospital I believe and his home and shop was all lost. The community have started a go fund me for him to help him recover and help him put together a life after this disaster
That's pretty good buddy 💯
I got that same shirt brother... Great minds and all that. Thanks for the video
@@AP.Custom.Forgeworks absolutely 🤣 inspiration comes from everywhere if you have the right kind of eye
I like the 3d effect of the Damascus over the 10 series steel. How many layers was the twist?
Around 25-30 layers I did a stack and added some as I restacked
@@Little_River_Forge I have yet to do a twist pattern. 30 layers by hand is most impressive. I would have gassed out on the floor and been crying for oxygen.
Love the patterns in the blade very well done.
Beauty of a blade! Is the handle micarta?
It was made by Emily’s casting crafts, out of Ocala Florida
@@Little_River_Forge Thanks man! I'll check out.
@@TBWblades tell her jef carter sent you over she’s awesome.
@@Little_River_Forge will do. Thanks much!
I forgot the name of this knife and I can't find it when searching 😢😢
The kukri I’ve seen it spelled a few different ways.
The guitar pick handle is a nice touch
It came out killer, I wasn’t sure about it when I first got them.
Turned out awesome
I got a video coming if it finished
How wide was the billet before you forged it? I plan on trying this soon so I'm watching all the "by hand" videos. Super happy to see this pop
@@AP.Custom.Forgeworks I did 1 1/2” flat bars 5/32” thick I believe they were all around the 6” length mark. Usually when I do smaller billets that’s the size I go for. After you get them nice and clean on the grinder I soak my billets with WD40 before going in the fire.
@Little_River_Forge nice. I'm going to use what I got here and try it out but it will be 3/16 1095 and 3/32 15n20. I feel like my first attempt will be interesting so use the 1095 cut off lol. Thanks again man
@@AP.Custom.Forgeworks clean your material around 120grit soak with wd40 and wipe clean after you get it welded up soak it with wd40 again. Let your forge get super hot, put your billet in and roll it every couple of minutes and your first weld pass should take nice with no flux.
@Little_River_Forge I bought diesel for the soak based on others a while ago. I do have lots of wd so I'll make 2 billets and try them both. The will be small anyway since hand forge so if they both work I can combine the 2 or do different patern attempts. I'm also trying a no weld tie wire attempt lol. Wish me luck you might hear me cuss from Washington lol
@@AP.Custom.Forgeworks diesel works just fine, as long as the forge is good and hot it should cost everything fine when it burns off
Despite pretty much loosing the outer layer, I really like the final result. I've tried go-mai a couple times with similar results, but have learned how to do it better next time, I think. I'd love to see yours finished one day.
@@aviweisbach7816 yea the whole outer layer is gone it was too thin to start with. With San Mai’s and go Mai’s the thicker your starting layers the better
Nice billet, like it better to do my billets by hand. Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see end piece
@@richardbryant7972 thanks, I have a press but it’s in pieces at the moment. Hopefully it will be finished soon. But setting by hand is the best way to feel when it’s solid for sure. Can’t beat the old way.
Excited to see what you make! Great work brother!
I did a little skinner out of it, it came out pretty alick
Great idea! Glad you’re helping out!
Absolutely John is an awesome guy and if I can raise even $100 it’s more than worth it. I have to help out how ever I can.
That's the way to do it!

Looks good to me
Thank you, I’ve been forcing myself to learn hidden tangs
Looks like a great tool I like the grind you put on it
Cool knife, I subbed, I make knives aswell if you want to have a look 👊
Those will make some good utility blades for people.
