'The Invasion of Waikato' – Vincent O'Malley (Book Trailer)
The Waikato War is a pivotal event in the history of Aotearoa. In this accessible introduction, Vincent O’Malley explains the enduring impact of these conflicts, continuing his remarkable work on the New Zealand Wars.
The book begins with the 1863 crossing of the Mangatāwhiri River by British troops. This act marked the Crown’s declaration of war against the Waikato tribes, igniting a conflict with far-reaching consequences. At its heart, the war was a clash between the Crown’s push for control and Māori insistence on self- governance, a right affirmed in Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The resulting conflict has shaped the nation for over a century, more influential, O’Malley argues, than even New Zealand’s involvement in the two World Wars.
'The Invasion of Waikato / Te Riri ki Tainui' is introduced in this book trailer by author Vincent O'Maley.

I would suggest that Vincent, God bless 'em, represents the last vestiges of the Irish potato famine lineage still trapped in the past. Meanwhile the Betty Paparoas of this World lie as testimony to indifference and unnecessary suffering.

If the British hadn't have come the the French would have taken over and as Professor Rutherford once told us the Americans were more than interested with the whaling potential and the selling of muskets to Maori tribes. Both powers had slavery as a viable option. Settlement is always going to cause strife as it is at the present time. Either the spread of an Asian influence such as Japaranga and Chowick or perhaps the greatest fear Godzone may face is the aim for World domination by non- Christian denominations.

What a load of crap, was this dick there No. I GUESS these two Europeans making up stories about history. British forces indeed what ignorant people making up stories. They were not there and there are no records because the Maori did not have a written language. Listen to the nonsense quoting action to a degree of 10 minutes, and this happened 150 plus years ago with no records being kept really. He wrote a book about something that he claims happened 150 + years ago 1879 from no records. Really. He discovered more and more things from where Really.

Omalley is clearly biased. He could learn alot from Tipene O'regan. "The story of new Zealand isn't about goodies and baddies it's much more nuanced than that."

This ad pops up on my feed and I'm like wth is this. A 40minute ad?! Then I hear the guy talking with a kiwi accent. Don't get many Kiwi ads esp. this long. Then the woman starts talking in te reo and I have to listen. Glad I did. This was exceptional. Im a Ngati Ruanui descendant and don't know squat about the Maori-New Plymouth wars. I think my dad would love this book as an Xmas gift. Thanks for the recommendation TH-cam.
