    Since you can't shiyhow you cut out the swarm cell, at least described how you cut out the swarm cell. Otherwise demo the process using a sample foundation frame with an imaginary swarm cell and do the process with hopefully a better camera angle

      You’re correct. They are supersedure cells, which are found in the middle of the frames which are often not used unless they’re needed, but when you do a walk away split, you will find that they will often make one or two supersedure cells next to the original, as well as several at the bottom of the frame too. They’re simply picking all the good eggs and making as many queen cells as they possibly can, which is beneficial because now we can make lots of splits.

    If you find full or half frames of honey and you plan on taking it later when it's warmer why not just take the honey now?

    • @bobbysbeez
      @bobbysbeez 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for asking. I will only take honey from hives that don’t need it. They need two boxes in Michigan to consistently over winter. A third box is a surplus of honey that I can remove. When it comes to the two boxes that are remaining, if a hive is still alive, I’d give the colony the opportunity to eat the honey, and use it to overwinter. Only when the hive dies before spring will I remove the honey from that die out.

    So, how do you feel merging colonies without paper works out? How's the carnage? Does honey production or brood rearing seem to suffer at all? Thanks

    • @bobbysbeez
      @bobbysbeez ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. Nothings for sure but I've seen success with smoking heavily and setting a queenless hive on top. I feel confident they'll become a strong hive. The queenless hive smells the fresh brood and in most cases quickly accepts the queen with minimal fighting. Now if the hive was queen right and I just pinched the queen( in the fall for example) that hive has brood and the queens pheromone will still be present for a short while. I wouldn't feel confident about adding a box of bees or a colony rather to another box without paper.

    we have had a few swarms this year. evan though we took 2 or 3 splits per hive. The bee's seem to be growing fast this year. Nuc sales have been good. Have a great week Bobby.

      Same here. Such a mild winter has them amped up and producing like crazy.

    I got into my 2 hives yesterday one super strong and 1 weak and no Queen. So I took 2 frames of brude/eggs from the strong hive. And one frame of pollen and honey. And shook in a frame of nurse's. Will try again. This whole summer will be making splits if I can just find the time.

    Hi Bobby Great video. You use that Queen catcher alot to mark Queens. Looks like it a good malti purpose tool. I was thinking of geting one to hold Queens in when i'm working a hive. Have a great day. Jody Fowlerville Mi.

      Terrific tool! I use it to hold the queen during inspections more than anything. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
