The ordinary folks seemed happy to see blonde haired people walking around, the vendors even happier! Let's hope this isn't just a honeymoon period however I fear once big money deals have been made to carve up control of the country, some areas will have different rules/levels of enforcement. The big cities though should be safe for at least a couple of years as land-owners/cartels allow it to thrive in order to make money. If/when they sell up it'll be time to move.

I think this is not very accurate. There is police and law. However, the secret police is not there anymore which was causing all the suffering for the people.

Syria is not aggressively islamic country we have a 17% Christianity in Syria and 6% another religion its no problem to drink alcohol anybody can and woman can wear whatever and thanks for showing my country ❤❤❤

Cross the border into Jordan and you have the army, the police, the tourist police and the traffic police. Yes you can buy alcohol in the Near East and there are churches. And you are correct the greatest threat is the traffic, a few near misses as people move from lane to lane.

West should help the Syrians but not dictate them what to do. Looking forward to a multicultural Syria which could be an beacon for surrounding countries. It is such a good sign that folks go and do business. They did not seem fearful, they look optimistic.

Syria was "created" by British and French men who actually chose where borders were after WW1. It was within the Ottoman Empire. Some of the oldest known cultures crossed on the very lands you're walking on now Caolan. The "interim" government is just beginning to take shape. It depends on the people whether Syria regains it's basic freedoms 360 awareness, Caolan. 🫂

Going into what is described as "no go areas" is that you can walk around without anything untoward happening, until. Then what some might say was brave, others might consider foolish. 99% of the people in any communities are generally welcoming, it is the 1% that is always the problem. I wish you both that when your time in Syria comes to an end you both will be considered brave.

Instant looting right now in the LA fires if there is anything left standing but also the people coming together, helping one another. It is never black and white. What are the odds that Assad and his British wife could get as many KitKats, Dom Perignon, single malts, yachts, luxury or rare cars whenever they wanted? This show is defiantly the best coverage of life for the average Syrian on the street. Be careful though, the bulk of the people might be cool, but it only takes a couple of not so cool people and you're in a hell of a bad situation.

The Syrians newly found freedom, will not last forever, it's only a matter of time before foreign influences and criminal's move in or become them, that is why the new Government needs to re-establish a police force and a strong law and order justice system. Take decent steps towards a valid democratic system.
