How old is that tree? Mine is staying so thin! Its about 8' tall but only about 1" in diameter. I'm considering cutting it back after i harevst the seed pods. Is that a good idea? Im in central florida zone 9B, mone is 1 year old, only in the ground 3 months though. It gets full sun all day, watering about twice a week. It only put out 2 pods 😔

After a hot Texas summer in zone 8A . I cut back the canns and they bounce back really well until the first frost.

I finally found an AZ outdoor gardener that answers so many questions that I’ve had! So helpful to include the direct that your house is oriented, fertilizer, season to prune back, etc.

Thank you for posting this for a newbie canna grower! I didn’t know we can grow such beautiful foliage plant in AZ.

You also can place the seeds in a cup and pour boiling water over them for 15 to 20 seconds and it causes micro fissures in the seed coating….it does work

Very nice cannas! I was gonna say where do you live?! Haha and then you said AZ lol no wonder! Im in OR and I brought my cannas inside for the winter. I never cut down one of them since it was still growinh leaves inside. Now the other one that died off and I did cut back is starting to shoot up and just got its first leaves! I think I'm gonna cut out some of the older stalks out of the other one I didn't trim back before since they stopped growing.. and I just realized the plant has also put out 3 newer stalks!😊

Would it not be better to let the leaves die back so that the Nutrients from the said leaves are absorbed by the rhizomes??

Are these D. metel by chance? I’ve wanted to plant the stramonium varietal but can’t find any wild growth to collect a pod from; I only ask because metels are the only plants sold in my area. Lovely garden btw, I need to develop the space for mine!

Hi there thank you so much for your video! I live in the tropics and my cannas keep flopping forward because of the rains, the soil is firm so Im thinking of just cutting them back all the way to the bottom in hopes their stems grow back stronger, do u recommend I do that?

Hello Mary! I am new to Canna Lily's. I bought canna lilys at a nursery in the fall. I want to over winter them in pots and keep them inside until spring. Is there a certain way to seperate them without breaking the essential part of the plant? Do I need to trim the leaves if overwintering in a pot? Your help is appreciated! I am attempting to remove the rhizomes from the dirt, but I’m having a really difficult time because they’re very rebound. Any suggestions? Please and thank you!
