We bought a 110 years old house surrounded by a bunch of smaller log cabins in the rural Sweden. We’re renovating, gardening and exploring the life in a small community in the Swedish countryside. We’ll share a bits and pieces of what we do here. Mostly renovation related things but maybe a bit of music and photography occasionally!

11. Summer life at the homestead - Apple harvest and new garden furniture.
I paint our new garden furniture as a surprise for Elin while she's in Norway. Also made applesauce, an apple pie, and go looking for mushrooms in the night.

07. We failed our pre-sprouted seeds!

We bought a bunch of seeds and some of them need to go into the soil immediately. There’s one problem. We’re going away for a few weeks. Can we figure out how to pre-sprout seeds when we are away? dalias come from Mexico and South America.. the time to plant them is in the srping for summer bloom.. where there is snow they need to be dug up or they will rot from being frozen .. they have too much water in them to stay in the ground... you will need to remove them by the first frost
Thank you Valeria! We’ve been having cold weather so we took them out of the ground yesterday. Storing them in a few different places to make sure they don’t rot! 😊

Thank you. Me too... if we're not careful everything will be painted green. Painted the furniture with the pigment Chromium oxide green. Very much in love with it! :)

I am curious if you planned out your foundation plantings - fruit trees and berry bushes and bushes that attract the pollinators, etc. before you chose the location of the raised beds? I was hoping you painted a map of the plan. 🙂 Most of our gardens are satisfactory now, so this year I added some magical ‘theme’ areas - a garden for growing tea plants; - a medicinal herb garden; - an area to grow flowering plants that dry well to make Autumn flower arrangements for our house and gifts for friends; - and for my own twisted amusement, a ‘goth garden’ with plants that have black flowers and leaves and spiky shapes. I put in two cute gargoyle statues to guard the garden. It’s wonderful and weird, although The Drummer added it to his list of quirky things I do. Someday your garden will be thriving and beautiful. It takes years. This was the first year we had a serious asparagus harvest and I could can and pickle lots. Very satisfying. 🤎XOjennyinseattle
There's a rough idea. The garden is 110 years old, most of it is very overgrown but we find new plants all the time. We're trying to be patient and see what grows here and where to plan around the existing infrastructure that is already here. But hidden. We're taking it slow. We know that we have a bunch of red currant, black currant and my favourite white currant. There's 6 apple trees where at least 4 of them give decent fruit. Also two pear trees. One gives a lot of fruit but last year they all went bad on the tree. We'll see this year. The other one is younger and didn't give any fruit this or last year. Been giving them some love. Fingers crossed. The idea is to have garden around the fruit trees where we'll try to implement some idea about permaculture. The other side of the garden (Where the raised beds are) we're going to try and keep more open. The raised beds is placed there right now as the part with the fruit trees is not prepared yet. We might move them there eventually we'll see. Mostly annual plants in the raised beds anyway. Wow, sounds amazing. What a great job you're doing with your garden. I love the idea of giving away dried flowers as a gift. I might steal that and do the same ;) I hope the gargoyles keep away any flower thiefs!

Love the history and the pictures of the owners who came before as you use something they once used. I also love the texture of the vignette of Midsummer in between and the wide shot of you on the couch at the end. It's giving me lots of inspiration as a film student. Glad I stumbled on your channel.

Just a little confused, knowing there was more than an even chance you have asbestos why lift so much floor and why only put a face mask on only at the end. Plus the fibres will be in the atmosphere, in your clothing hanging up, the cat will breathe it in! Sorry, as I say I’m confused, we all know the dangers surrounding asbestos! Your music is beautiful, as is the scenery.❤
That's a fair question.Thank you for looking out for us, appreciate it! <3 Honestly we didn’t expect there to be any more carpets. Here’s our thought process(A lot of text I know): We suspected there would be asbestos in the carpets on the top layer as it was done in the 70s. We took samples and had them analysed at the lab. We also took samples of older carpets on the second floor. The samples were positive for asbestos in three out of four rooms on the first floor and they were negative for asbestos in the bedroom and the older carpets on the second floor. In the first episode we took out the old carpet in the bedroom and found a beautiful wooden floor underneath the chipboards. And that was what we were expecting to find underneath the chipboard in the remaining three rooms as well. We only took out a tiny bit of chipboard before we found the carpets underneath. The carpets look much older, and look more as if they were done in the 40s, which is the age of the carpets we took out on the second floor. We were not super worried. We don’t take asbestos lightly and discuss it a lot. And we didn't want to take any chances so we got the mask on and took samples. And in the entrance we didn’t find a carpet at first. There’s been a wardrobe in that spot so it was just bare wood. That’s why we took out that much. We eventually found carpets from probably around the 40s. Actually the pieces of carpet that you see in this episode are probably much older than that. Maybe the originals from 1915? We’ve gotten the results back now and they’re all negative. Which is a relief. With that said, you’re right. Probably should have worn the mask from the beginning. Dust from deconstruction is not healthy. Asbestos or not. I hope that makes more sense?
