DIY | Metal Heated Chicken Waterer | STOP Buying Plastic
After another expensive plastic chicken waterer broke we decided to ditch the plastic and use only metal. We had a hard time finding a metal heated chicken waterer so we decided to make our own for a fraction of the cost!

Dude you got MASSIVELY screwed over. For one - $40/hen is insane; a full grown bird culled costs $5/lb for organic free range; you paid full price for a live bird. Not only that but 180eggs/yr for a bird means its not a layer either, laying birds of damn near any species lays 200-300/yr, meaning you were sold old hens, not 16wk old. I wouldn't be shocked to hear, now 2yrs out, that your birds are giving less than 150/yr at this point. You totally bought 3+yr old hens.

Ho and my Sorel glacier boots are early 2000's use them in Alaska 9 months every year just this year the stitching is tearing. I ordered new old stock canadian made sorels today because I don't trust a snow boot made in Vietnam a tropical country that has never seen snow.

Baffins suck, huge ,bulky, over priced gimmick boots the top of the boot scoops snow into the boot like a shovel baffins look like they would be super warm but i get cold feet i 10 mins at 20f. I live in Alaska and the sorel glacier original is good to -60f or lower i have only seen -60f. I have never had cold feet in my older canadian made sorels.

You forgot to mention that these boots are not for walking and hiking. They are too warm for that but most off all too spungy. I’m glad I didn’t size up as they get bigger in time because of the inner felt boot and they make you clumsy. I use mine for ice fishing and such still sitting activities where they are great. They are too warm, clumsy and big for snowmobiling.

You been had son!!!! Buy 12 1 year old spent hens for $2 each and a sac of the bulk feed for $8. Build a Hen cube out of 5 free pallets and spend $3 on screws. Cover that with $7 tarp. Use three free pails for laying boxes. Get a rooster for $5 off craigslist and get your hens knocked up. Get 8 to 10 eggs per day and start feeding food scraps free from restaurants and free ranging your hens by day. Hatch your next batch of hens and sell your old ones for $3 @. Cost = $0.33 a dozen.

Sounds like what dairy farmers do up North when the cows have to be in the barn all Winter. Just keep adding layers (they use wheat straw) on top of the manure. (wheat straw will decompose faster than wood shavings) When I was 16 I worked on a farm with cows, and let me tell you, cleaning out the barn in Spring with 6 feet of manure straw was real stinky and NOT fun. Of course it all got loaded into the manure spreader and out into the fields.

I’m raising 12 hens lost my rooster. I realize for me it’s not inexpensive. However, I can’t set a price on nutrition. The company’s can tell you organic, free range etc. Have you been there to see it? Well for me I know exactly what my girls eat and the gorgeous thick shell, orange color eggs mine put out. So I’ll take that any day to accepting big companies word. Beside, they take time but love every minute of it. Good therapy for building stamina and a happy mind.

Cold hardy breeds... no heat... stop the wind. So long as they are dry, have water & feed and aren’t exposed to wind, they’ll do just fine in the cold. People will end up killing their chickens by adding heat and attempting to alter their natural mechanism for survival. They’re not cats or dogs... they can survive in the cold.

Was a huge, costly mistake for us. Intended to use it full time. $6000+ for just the toilet. Replacement parts cost a fortune. We began having difficulties within 3 weeks of installation and it never stopped. One thing after another. A year later, having to pay for installation of a traditional toilet and the Cinderella company is blaming us for misuse and overuse so they don't have to honor warranty. It has been a horror story
