SHINE Indie Nail Polish Channel
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 ก.พ. 2014
A guy started this nail polish line - and why not? Our founder Jason, knows color and how to expertly join hues in a way that’s “most uncommon” from other brands.
We believe that Color is an expression of one’s personality and that the nail polish you wear should be as distinctive as you!
Our goal is as always, to continue developing colors that lead, not follow! Polish made safer for our kids, friends, and family.
SHINE Polishes are 10 Free, Non-Toxic and Vegan Friendly
When it comes to our suppliers, we do our homework. We only buy ingredients from companies that offer FDA approved solvent-resistant cosmetic glitters, micas, pigments and other colourants.
Jason: “I have to admit I’m little obsessed with making our polishes. I spend an obscene amount of time mixing, researching, keeping up with new products and processes; which gets me in trouble at home. I still get excited every time a bottle sells, like it’s our first customer.”
Take care and enjoy your SHINE!

How to | Make Your Own Nail Polish | Materials and Supplies
So, you want to start your own Nail Polish Line? That’s awesome, but now what, where do you start, what do you need? It’s hard to get that information from most makers. But, like I mentioned in my last post, I like helping people and seeing them succeed. And I’m not afraid of a little competition, it keeps you on your toes. In this blog and video I’m going to go over the basic materials and supplies needed to start developing your new nail polish line and talk about lessons learned.
Before we start there are a couple of things I want you to remember.
* The only way to learn this business is by trial and error. You will make mistakes, you will waste materials, you will make some ugly polishes, etc. Basically, you need to make these mistakes in order to be a good or even a great Maker.
* Start SMALL! Make one or two bottles at a time in the beginning. If not, you’ll be wasting a lot of materials just learning.
* Be sure to write down every ingredient and the amount you used on every polish in a Journal, you can multiply that amount later to produce larger quantities. Believe me, there’s nothing worse that coming up with a color that’s to die for, but you don’t know how to recreate it. Ahhhhhhh! It’s going to take you a little while to get your formulas right, every Maker has their own way of doing things. You’ll know when you’ve got it just right, if you don’t, please stop. If you just can’t get it, then do yourself a favor and go buy some polish! I mean that in the nicest possible way. Lol.
* Please find a well ventilated area to make your polish. You don’t want to breath this for hours. Even though its 10 FREE, it still goes to your head. I added the vent hood, but not everyone has a retail building to work in. Let’s all be safe please.
Supplies needed: All noted items can be found at www.TkbTrading.com
1. Luster base for non glitter polish - Tkb
2. Suspension base for polishes containing glitters - Tkb
Glitter will settle to the bottom of the bottle in a luster base
3. Mica pigments - multiple colors and types - Tkb
4. Glitters - I would wait to tackle the glitter polishes. Tkb
5. Glass Beakers (Lab Beakers) - Amazon
I don’t recommend mixing directly in the polish bottles, its messy, doesn’t mix really well and not to mention, its harder to do. Don’t use hard clear plastic cups or bowls to mix in, the polish base will actually melt them and your polish will be ruined.
6. Small funnels - Tkb
7. Disposable Measuring spoons - Tkb
8. An empty polish bottles w/ brushes and caps - Tkb
9. Steel balls to help shake up the polish - Tkb
10. Plastic mat for your work area (I use rubber shelf liner) - Misc Store
11. Swatch Wheels for testing - Sally’s
12. Acetone - Misc Store
13. Brush Cleaner - Sally’s
14. Paper Towels - Misc Store
15. A plastic mat to work on - I use rubber shelf liner - Misc Store
16. Apron - You will get it on your clothes, so get a stylist apron - Sally’s
You should be wearing your creations while your learning. You need to know everything about your polish, how it feels, paints and length of wear. You’ll need to be able to answer questions about your polishes and compose accurate detailed descriptions, if you plan to sell online. Next is the fun part, give some to your friends to try. Get their honest opinions on all the above and ask them what they think about you colors. They’re great for pre-market research as well as free advertising.
Well, those are the basics, hopefully you’ve got a good grasp of where to start. If you have any questions, can’t find something or would like to leave a “nice” message, please use the comment section. I’ll respond as quickly as I can.
NOW, GO MAKE SOME POLISH!
Good luck,
Jason “The guy who makes nail polish”

***TKB is the best supplier for beginners, you’ll be able to get most everything you need in one place. They also sell in small quantities, which is perfect for learning. Wait until your more comfortable making polish and that you want to do this for real to search for other suppliers; believe me there are many.
***That should be most everything you need to get started. Some people say you need $1000 to start, that it not true. I think you could get by with $200-$300 for the all of the supplies listed. Remember, you are just learning so don’t go crazy buying things.

How to Make Indie Nail Polish - Ok, so I decided to make you guys a behind the scenes video. (When I first started in the business, it was so hard to find videos like this. No one ever shares the This was unscripted and totally a spur of the moment thing. (It’s a little long). It’s kind of a how to video, with me making a very small, 4 bottle batch of the new color Pinked Ice. I hope you enjoy ...

Hey Everyone, Tonight I thought I would show you our shop and give you a little background information about us and where we sell SHINE in person. This is a video of our Salon, URBAN DO, I believe I made this video about 2 years ago, when I expanded the salon and doubled it’s size.

What am I going to write down if you don't say what anything is. Idiot
Love the “Barbie” color!
Just out of curiosity, could you do audio recordings while you are developing and then transcribe that recording afterwards, when you are happy with the result? Like “Okay, today I am working on Polish ABC. To start, I am using 1 scoop of the Gold Holo Glitter and 2 scoops of Lavender Mica. Not quite enough glitter, I’m adding another scoop of the Gold Holo Glitter” Personally, I’m terrible at remembering to write things down as I go. But I talk to myself constantly and talk thru my thought process.
were did u get the Luster base for non glitter polish - Tkb
Wow.. its adorable sir.❤
Gorgeous!
Do you get your products from TKB?
You are mean with your ingredients
Then why do you post if your not going to tell what you used
How can I get this mica it’s beautiful
👍🏿 informative
Oh woooww… by any chance, is this Gel Polish which needs UV light to cure?
How do we make it if we don't know what to use
You're a hater, how is this helpful when you're not telling us what products we are to use here very pointless video
Thanks for the video 🙂
so pretty
gorgeous
🤣
This should be titled as "HOW I MAKE MY OWN NAIL POLISH" SMH 😠
I don't understand why this video is titled "How to make your own nail polish materials and supplies" if you're not disclosing the products needed to make it. It should be titled watch me make my own polish.
i've logged in my google account. just to say I 101% totally agree with you 🤣
Exactly 😒💯
Hi, Great instructive video! Does anyone maybe know a supplier like TKB Trading that delivers in Europe? Unfortunatly they don't ship to The Netherlands :( and I can't find a supplier for a nail polish base. Been looking online for a couple of days now. Major thanks to anyone that is able to help me! Greetings, Robin
everyone in the comments asking for the exact ingredients🤣why would an indie polish maker give away their recipe? As someone just starting out and doing my own actual research, this video is extremely cool.
Not told what using
I wish we could get more of those great indie polishes here in UK. I love this one.
but you do have so many insane beautiful indi nail polish brands in UK.
That is sooooooooo pretty. I need this polish.💖
What do you use for a base, and how do you get/ make it? :)
an automatic toothbrush would work too, lol
The only thing he or she said to use was a HaNd MiXeR (at 6:05)
I would to contact with you please for important, if you have FB page or Gmail for contacting.
How is the base made? This is the information we cannot find 🤔 I have mica, alcohol inks and pigments in liquid form for water based liquids and solvent based and more BUT the big secret seems to be the tutorial of making bases... UV bases for gel polish and regular bases for good old air dry traditional polish.... Please tell ☺️✌🏻
Do you need a license to sell the product you make and if so what licenses do you need? (Love the polish very beautiful!!🥰)
Depends on what scale you produce and in which country you're in. Different countries have different laws under which you can apply for licence for specific product categories
You can't tell us where you got the brushes? It's a fucking brush haha
What is the base called
ye nelpolice ka metrial kha se melaga
Is this gel polish?
Are the materials listed for gel polish?
no it's regular polish
How do you make the base
Suspension base + pigments = nail polish or something else has to be added?
Suspension base (needed for suspending glitter) has everything in it except color and/or glitter.
pigments + suspension base is enough !, what are the other chemicals that you add ?
Do you sell you polishes by bulk?
That so cool can u get me the recipe
Plz..your contact details
12 drops of what????
Then what's the point of the video ? People are watching to learn....SMH
What’s the drops?
