Danny Moss at 31 SIX-FIVE Special_ (1958).mov
I have posted this video segment for my family, and in particular, Danny's wife Jeanie, Danny Jnr and Robbie, Oscar Bonnie and Lydia. I can't believe I found this clip of him aged 31 and I hope friends and fans will enjoy seeing him. I would like to thank the originator for submitting this precious footage.

5 minutes with Miss Jeanie Lambe

This is a presentation I gave to some business associates some time ago. I thought I would put it the music of the fabulous, Miss Jeanie Lambe, one of the world's greatest ever lady jazz singers. I thought I would share some things I do with my photography. The presentation was made about a year ago, and I created it on Keynote. The animation and effects are excellent.

    Man he looks so young there. Met him in Perth shortly after he arrived in 1989. Great bloke and tremendous sax player and very generous with the other band members.

    Such a pleasure and a treat to hear Danny again. I worked with him when deppin' for Kenny Clare with the Pizza Express All-stars in Dean Street back in the 80s. Such a soul ful sound.

    (continued) listen for the mild hiss of air in the D above DHC,5:50. Trumpeters learning to scream should consider the mild passing of air (such as you hear on Maynard's end note of cadenza) a very good sign. It means you're catching on to the game. Another good sign is if you hear something similar to the crackling tone of wind through the trees in a storm. Some have referred to this as resembling the static on a short wave radio.

  • @jorgecallico9177
    @jorgecallico9177 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The D above DHC Maynard at the end of his solo cadenza (in the ORIGINAL MF Horn recording) is the most sterling of high notes he recorded in his career, Go to 5:50 in to hear. He recorded a fairly solid E above in "Blue Birdland"/ "Live At Jimmy's, MF Horn 4 & 5" he slid up to the thing.but THIS D is the best. Next in line is the DHC, final cadenza, coda of "Frame For The Blues" "Message from Newport" album, 1958. . If you can get the original MF Horn recording 1969. THAT D is the best!

    I have audio recordings on 3 3/4" reel- to- reel tapes of live BBC radio broadcasts Jeannie made on Jazz Club 16 Nov 1961 "I can't give you anything but love." On 19 Apr 1962 "Sugar" + "You'd be so nice to come home to." On 9 Aug 1962 "All of Me" + "Summertime" + "Milenburg Joys." And on 12 Apr 1965 "Blue Prelude" with the Danny Moss Quartet. On the other dates she sang with Terry Lightfoot. These notes from cards. I haven't played tapes since late 70s. Probably too brittle Maybe CD now?

    • @martinplatt5928
      @martinplatt5928 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would certainly try and get those small reel-to-reel tapes transferred to CD or even better mp3 files. This should preserve them for many years to come. My father-in-law played drums with the Don Smith Orchestra in 'break for music' on the Light Programme circa 1955 - 1957. It seems all those recordings are now long gone, that's unless you know otherwise. Regards Rick - Martin

    I wish I'd met and worked with Danny Moss but our paths never crossed What a wonderful musician - and the pianist and his son too!!! Thanks for sharing this video, Ian. My heart felt as though a hand had suddenly closed around it quite hard when I became aware that he really was no more - and too late for new meetings! Belated kudos to the inspiring pianist and Danny's so talented son.

    From the arrangement, to the performance, to the camera direction and 'special effects' (..and - is that a young Randy Jones on drums??), this is KILLIN'! This also sounds like the same band that recorded the studio version..which I'd love to find. Great stuff...

    What can ya' say, this band smoked as well as MF. One of my favorite tunes on that album. The whole album smokes. Always loved Maynard and the way he would intimidate the horn players that sucked on the dang things instead of playing from the ankles up. They know who they are, the ones that always criticize MF, just jealous folks. RIP MF, your music and energy live on!
