The story begins at the close of the 1950's in Basel, Switzerland, a city in the midst of a postwar boom. The predictability of life for the young is interrupted by rock n' roll and American movies invading the boredom. Rebellion was the only real response and in Switzerland, that push against the dull adult world, erupted in Basel, where teenagers took to separating themselves from the herd with bold fashion statements, wearing their code with gang jackets, greasy pompadours for the boys and exaggerated bouffants for the girls. They congregated at coffee bars and in the streets, and it was not long before criminal activity became the norm.
Dieter "Igel" Ehrlich was part of the earliest gangs, and provides in the book a walk through each of his Ganga and others across Switzerland. It was Igel who first met photographer Karlheinz Weinberger and took him into the gang to meet his friends. Weinberger's iconic images of unnamed gang kids are finally identified by name. Igel's years in the gang close with the burning of his gang jacket - a moment crystallized in this book - with images of Weinberger trying to stop Igel from destroying his allegiance to the gang, trying to purchase it from Igel.
This photographic journal scrapbook of a gang boy in Switzerland brings the Halbstarke phenomenon to the world.

Bobby Fuller had "It." If he had lived, Bobby would have had other hit records, I bet.

Of course, I know some people want to let the past stay in the past, but am I the only one who thinks the mysterious death of Bobby Fuller needs to have another look at with modern technology? I refuse to believe he committed suicide and it’s high time his death was looked at with modern technology.

Yes, we know. This is the original version recorded by Bobby Fuller in El Paso. It was he who popularized the Crickets tune. Bobby was a huge fan of Buddy Holly (and the Crickets), even recording with Norman Petty.

@@nortonrecords7533These missed a spot guys are all over and they are tiresome. I once made a comment about a female singer doing When Will I Be Loved and said she was doing a credible job covering Linda Ronstadt, and I knew what was around the bend. Sure enough somebody had to proudly assert that the Everly Brothers did it first, as if we all didn't know. In that situation, the female singer was covering the Linda Ronstadt version but here you are even more clear that it is the original Bobby Fuller version. Same things happens when a female singer covers I Think We're Alone Now and titles her video a Tiffany cover, and someone always feels compelled to bring up Tommy James.

A great pioneer musician of early Rock N' Roll. This song was fantastic. Bobby Fuller and his Four were already headed for the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. Jealousy, the LA Mafia , the Police and Bob Keene all conspired against him. They wanted their piece of the pie and corruption murdered him. Bastards did him in. Just like what happened to the King Elvis Presley. Promoters, Producers, managers are all bloodsuckers to be cautious of when you have talent. They exploit the real Star and live off their Successes. Evil manipulators.
