North Woods Outsider
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 พ.ค. 2024
Far north, deep in the Scandinavian wilderness, I spend my life alone with my two beloved cats, Billy and Lucky, in an abandoned off-grid log cabin. This is a life I’ve always dreamed of, detached from the chaos of the modern world, surrounded by the beauty of untouched wilderness, and living in harmony with nature. Every day here is a step closer to the divine, as I embrace the simplicity and serenity of off-grid living. From building and repairing the cabin to exploring the vast forest and adapting to the ever-changing seasons, life here is raw, peaceful, and deeply fulfilling.
This journey is about discovering what it means to live in sync with nature. My companions, Billy and Lucky, are my loyal friends in this adventure, finding joy in every corner of our remote forest home.
Join us as we share glimpses of life in this isolated northern paradise the off-grid survival, cabin restoration, wildlife encounters, and the magic of living far away from the noise of the world.

I Bought an Abandoned Off Grid Log Cabin Far in the North / Building New Stairs EP21
I Bought an Abandoned Off Grid Log Cabin Far in the North / Building New Stairs EP21
Far north, deep in the Scandinavian wilderness, I’ve embarked on a journey to transform an abandoned off-grid log cabin into a home. This place, nestled among towering trees and the whispers of the forest, is where I’ve chosen to live a simpler, more intentional life, shared only with my two loyal companions, Billy and Lucky. For years, I dreamed of escaping the chaos of modern life to reconnect with nature, and now, that dream has become my reality.
In this video, I faced an unexpected challenge. I had planned to repair the large wooden staircase leading to my cabin. But as I began the work, it became clear that the old stairs were beyond saving-rotten through and through, a reminder of the years of neglect this cabin endured. There was no choice but to build a brand-new staircase from scratch. Armed with basic tools, salvaged wood, and a determination to make something strong and lasting, I took on the task.
Building the stairs was no easy feat. The uneven terrain of the forest and the harsh Scandinavian weather added layers of complexity. Yet, these are the challenges that define off-grid living. Every step of the process, from measuring and cutting the planks to securing each piece in place, demanded focus and patience. Working with wood, especially in an off-grid setting, connects me to a tradition as old as humanity itself-the art of crafting with your own two hands.
The materials I used tell their own story. Much of the wood came from around the property, salvaged and repurposed, with each piece bearing marks of age and use. There’s a certain satisfaction in giving new life to old materials, turning what was once discarded into something functional and beautiful. The forest not only inspires my work but also provides the resources to make it possible.
The new staircase now stands solid and sturdy, a symbol of progress and resilience. Each plank, each nail driven into place, represents a small victory in this ongoing journey of building a life in harmony with nature. This is more than just a staircase-it’s a gateway to the home I’m creating, a space that feels truly my own.
For those who share a love of woodworking, off-grid living, or simply the dream of escaping into the wilderness, this video is for you. It’s a glimpse into the rewards of crafting a life with intention, one project at a time. From the satisfaction of woodworking to the challenges of living far from modern conveniences, this journey is as much about personal growth as it is about building a home.

🕊Have a Great New York.
Open the Damper on the fireplace so it can breathe and the smoke will stop.
After all this time I just noticed the lovely print narrative attached to your posts. I have not seen posts with such passion in print coinciding with the videos. You offer us respite. Thank you. I see your future. Random House will want to publish your writings. Save some of yourself for your book/s. There could be 2 or more. Then Hollywood will call and make 2 movies. One of you and another of Billy and Lucky. They could be the next Milo and Otis! (If you are not familiar try to find the US movie The Adventures of Milo and Otis 1986. You will love it). Brace yourself! I think you will be famous despite yourself. Just my hunch.
👍😎🇨🇦🐾🐾
Much love from scandinavia and a happy new year <3
It will be a lovely and strong home. My cat would like to see more of Billy please.
Ha Ha Billy is a wild boy always roaming in the forest but he will be back soon. God bless you and your Cat <3
I haven't seen you measure once where you need to measure that is the height from the ground to the top and then divide it by 7
Thanks, bro! I’ll do them again today just didn’t know that. God bless you!
Just by the wood he chose I could tell he doesn't know what he's doing
Just from his comment, I can tell he doesn’t know what he’s doing with his life other than watching people who don’t know what they’re doing on the internet and then thinking about them instead of using his time for something meaningful.
@NorthWoodsOutsider hahahahahahaha You tell em!
Vídeo sensacional, gostei tbm do estilo das tatuagens 💀 A cabala é linda demais. Abraço e ansioso pelos próximos episódios
Eu te agradeço e envio saudações do norte para o sul.
Just kidding nice work brother
All good, Thanks 👍
Oh no Roscoe u forgot something how could you 😮
Who the F is Roscoe ? And what do I forgot ? God bles you!
Very nice work. You may want to put stones or bricks under them or the soil will cause rot again in a couple of years.
Yes, thats true It’s my first set of stairs, so I wasn’t even sure if they’d last or work at all. If I build something more meaningful next time, I’ll definitely put some rocks under it. Thanks for the recommendation I truly appreciate your help since I’m definitely new to this. God bless you!
beautiful wooden house
Yeah It truely is and we are blessed to be able to live out here thats for sure. Thanks for stopping by.
I am waiting for a long time for your cats' appearance, finally Lucky is on the show. By the way, thank for your detailed explanation. We are so conditioned by the social constructed environments and lost the abilities to connect with nature. I am so glad you are imbued with nature.
Our pleasure! Yeah, sometimes they’re both out in the woods all day, and other times they stick around the house. Every day is different. I found out that Lucky enjoys walking to the nearby lake most mornings. I’m not sure what she’s doing there, but she always comes back after a few hours, and that’s what matters most. God bless you!
why do you have the need to post pictures and movies of you working at your home....watched for 30 seconds, BORED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha ha, best comment of 2024 you win! Next time, maybe do something meaningful with your time instead of spreading negativity. Thinbk about it no one forced you to watch anything here. God bless you.
@laurenmallon4963 You just don't get it, honey. Maybe watch a little longer and give some respect to a lifestyle different than yours. Peace.
Another outstanding Craftsmanship!👍Job!👍
Thanks again! I truly appreciate your kind words. Honestly, I never thought I could build all this but it’s actually much easier than I imagined. Happy holidays and God bless you!
your wood is in contact with the ground, so it will rot faster
Yes, I’m aware of that. It’s my first set of stairs, so I wasn’t even sure if they’d last or work at all. If I build something more meaningful next time, I’ll definitely put some rocks under it. Thanks for the recommendation-I truly appreciate your help since I’m definitely new to this. God bless you!
Thank you for giving us a longer video. We love the process, all steps. Some of these videos by others are 45-1.5 hours long! Please don't be afraid to show us what you may view as mundane. We love the setting. We love the process. These are relaxing and calming for many of us. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
You are so welcome! And that’s true, you make a good point. I’m actually working on a 45-minute video right now. I like longer videos too, but they do take so much more time to finish. Thanks for the feedback-I really appreciate it. God bless you!
Enjoy your vids and love the way cats supervise 😂😄Greetings from Aus!
Thanks for your kind words we really appreciate that. It just wouldn’t be the same without Billy and Lucky for sure, they make everything so much better. God bless you!
@NorthWoodsOutsider I have my animal family too! It's the best!
@@ezlow1065 It truly is, and we are blessed to have them :)
How??? Where???
I just love these aggressive comments of yours it truly says something, ha ha. If you have a serious question, please take your time, just like I do, and let your anger go. It only hurts yourself. God bless you!
Nice big wood stash for upcoming projects. Looks like also have some outbuildings as well that serve as storage of some sort. God bless, my brother in Christ.
Right on! Thanks for stopping by and leaving some positive vibes-we truly appreciate it. God bless you, brother!
You brave, man. That water must have been cold. Heat it up next time. 🥶
For sure! I don’t know why I didn’t think of it in the first place, but now that I’ve learned to heat water, ha ha, my shower experiences are much smoother. God bless!
Those steps look much stronger now! The fall colors look beautiful there. 😊
Yes they do thank you very much for the message we appreciate that. Thanks for sticking around. God bless you!
Your porch or veranda would be an amazing place to sit in the spring if you screen it in. Nice place for having a coffee without the flies or bugs eating you up.
Yeah, it truly is. I don’t like the idea of fencing it it’s beautiful just the way it is. We do have a lot of bugs and mosquitoes here in spring and summer, but it’s really just about two months until they calm down, and I can live with that. Summers are short over here. God bless you!
@NorthWoodsOutsider totally understand. Enjoy.
You can use the old set of stairs as a plant stand next spring.
That’s a great idea, and I actually already use them as my outdoor dishwashing station, which you’ll see in my future videos. I appreciate you stopping by. God bless you!
🙌👏⭐️
Thanks for stopping by, God bless you!
The presence of the forest is so strong, one can even feel it through the computer screen. Or perhaps it is because of you being aware of it, you can convey it through your videos. So peaceful and I love the way sounds in the forest echo. What a mysterious river - any rapids? You’ll need to purchase a canoe next - no?
That’s always my goal to bring the true experience of what we have here so others can feel what it’s really like. That’s what I was searching for in these kinds of videos when I watched them over the years. Another point is to prove to myself that it’s finally real and we made it, which I sometimes still haven’t fully realized. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I truly appreciate it. God bless you!
Lucky got on those old steps like he was saying "I'll claim these right here as mine!" 🤣So cute! Nice job on the stairs.
That’s just her, ha ha. She’s the boss of our family. I don’t know if you guys are aware, but Lucky is actually Billy’s mother. Just thought I’d let you know. Thanks for sticking around. God bless you!
Is that a tracker on Boss Lucky's collar. I'm asking as my boy has a GPS Tractive and it's much more bulky but he is used to it.
Ha Ha Lucky is the Mother of Billy but you are right she is the Boss here. And yes its a tracker its working well in the neigborhood but not so well in the forrest. It's a Apple Air Tagg about 30€ I was looking for another tracker but it was way to big for Luck Lucky she i a really small cat. God bless you!
@NorthWoodsOutsider I highly recommend tractive for a cat that goes far like my Milo. I got one after he got run over last year so I can go and collect him if he is near a main road and I always find him and know where he is, peace of mind. It's a subscription but worth every cent. Love to Billy and Lucky 😻
Yes, I understand, we’re 5 km away from any public road, that was one of the reasons we came here. I lost two cats to the road when I was a child. The tracking works well when I’m nearby sometimes they lose the collar, but I always find it when I go searching for it. :)
Tuli hienot portaat!
The steps are good, but that wide a third stringer would be good for support. (I case you gain a few pounds) just kidding😅
Ha ha, that’s funny! I’m pretty stable so far, but it’s true-even the boards are pretty thick and have dried out over the years. They haven’t bent at all so far. God bless you!
Nice work, enjoying your channel.
Thank you very much you are welcome. Glad you enjoy it! God bless you!
You are a fast worker. Great video. Cannot wait to see some of ur snow videos! Please make some ! ❤
Thank you! Well, it took a few hours actually, not too much but yeah, the result is what matters, and they’re still standing, and that’s what counts :) I’m working on snow videos, and they’ll definitely come 100%. They’ve just been delayed a bit to early next year since, here on TH-cam, we’re in a different timezone, ha ha. Thanks again for your message. I really appreciate your voice. God bless you!
I asked myself: Will he build a german style Baustellentreppe or an american style with cutout stringers? It went totally different, but functional nonetheless. Personally I would've put in a third stringer in the middle, but you'll be fine as it its. Thanks for taking us along!
As a German, I’m now curious what a "Baustellentreppe" might be, ha ha. Actually, it’s the first stairs I’ve ever built. I wasn’t thinking much about it actually, not at all. I just tried to build it as fast and easy as I could, and it works well. It’s still standing! :) Thanks for your comment. I’m enjoying hearing your opinions and experiences since I have none so far. God bless you!
You are intelligent and courageous to escape the insanity of this world. Look at the situation in the entire world. Hardly any good out there. I pray that God blesses your efforts and keeps you healthy. Don’t regret anything that you have done. Your cats🤙😺
You’re speaking straight to my heart. I felt the same way like I had to escape and finally live a real life, something I feared might be taken from me. But we are capable, and we decide whether we let it happen or not. It’s still possible to live a quiet and connected life out here, away from the rush and craziness of the modern world. Thanks for stopping by. God bless you!
So calm and peaceful, love all of the nature sounds! 😊
Yes, it really is a blessing to be able to live out here. Thanks for stopping by. God bless you!
That's super cute, lucky is being a great supervisor 😂
Yes, she absolutely loves it out here, and she is always a great companion. Do you have cats as well ?Thanks for stopping by. God bless you!
Very nice new steps! Lucky and Billy seem like happy cats. They totally enjoy watching you create!
Yes, they absolutely love it out here. I've never seen them so happy before. Thanks for stopping by. God bless you!
Now you are going to have to convert the old stairs into a cat viewing platform since they claimed it.
I already converted it into my new outdoor dishwashing station, ha ha. Thanks for stopping by. God bless you!
Was für eine Drohne benutz du ?
