    Would be curious to hear what you think of the pension, that video. I do think its hard for us to compare the value of a pension to the value of a retirement account. I like to look at it as the reverse of 4% rule . So, if I know I can get 20k a year from a pension, I project what that would be 4% of, in other words multiply it by 25. In that example a pension income of 30k a year woule be like the value of a 750k balance 401k account. Does that make sense? I agree with you that there are pros and cons to pension system. I am part of one through the University I work at, though I'm staff, not a teacher. The pension I have only even is designed to replace a certain amount of income. Retirement is supposed to be made up of: work place account (pension), personal savings, and social security. Three legged stool, they say :)

    • @JuliesRichLife

      I agree with your perspective of reversing the 4% rule as an estimate of pension value. It is fortunate to have a three legged stool instead of just two legs! Less likely to fall over so to speak.... I will be making that video, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    I was laid off a couple years ago and after applying for several jobs and having to compete with hundreds of other applicants I told my husband with the interest rates the way they were there just wasn’t many jobs available in my field. So I would probably have to change careers that would pay less than what I had been making. We decided although we wouldn’t be able to pay our credit down as fast that I would just not work. At the time I was late 50’s so didn’t know what kind of jobs that would want to hire me to train knowing I am so close to retirement age. So basically forced into early retirement. The one thing that is annoying is it would have been nice to have chosen when I wanted to retire. It is great that you can ease into it the way you are instead of the whole apple cart getting knocked over. We were fortunate that my paycheck had been the extra for a while so we just had to slow down on our extra spending. We have decided to try to add more to our emergency fund savings in 2025. Hopefully, we will be able to stick to that.

    Hi! For the month of December, I decided to do a pantry challenge. We still shopped for perishables and food we ran out of, but it has been eye-opening as to how many meals we could eat from the basic staples already in our pantry, fridge, and freezer. Our household includes two adults and two cats, but my husband loves to feed the birds in our backyard. Birdseed and peanuts. Still, we have with the pantry challenge reduced our grocery budget from an average of $550.00 to $385.00. My goal is to keep grocery spending to $350.00 to $400.00 for $2025. That's my challenge! Retiring at 56 are you crazy. You have allot of strength at that age. Please don't waste all that time.

    • @JuliesRichLife
      @JuliesRichLife 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      MMM, depends on the definition of crazy I guess. Part of the process for me is that I know what I will retire into, which I am still working out. Indeed I don't want to waste the strength I still have left. Thanks for watching!

    I retired at 52 after i got laid off and honestly, I wish I’d done it sooner. The 9-to-5 grind always steals your freedom for a paycheck that barely scratches the surface. My advice? If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, start saving for FIRE now (Financial Independence, Retire Early.) And if you’re in your 50s, invest smartly and break free from relying on your job. Market trends, like the Trump Effect, have made millions for many, including me. Stay focused, stay consistent, and remember financial freedom is within reach if you make it a priority.

    • @MoniqueJ-g2s

      Exactly My point! The 9 to 5 grind is just not worth it the stress and low payoff. What specific steps did you take to break free?

      Working with Lorrie Greta Hillard , a financial advisor, was a game changer. She helped me refine my savings strategy, including retirement planning, and provided expert guidance on investments and budgeting to maximize my savings.

    I got laid off at june, ever since then. I implemented a detailed budgeting strategy, tracking every expense and setting clear spending limits across all categories. In just six months, I saved over $60,000, giving me a strong sense of financial security and the ability to invest in my future. This approach has transformed the way I manage money, and I now feel more confident than ever about achieving my long-term goals.

    I am so with you on the philosophy that a rich life has so little to do with an abundance of wealth and more with how you value what you have. I'm paraphrasing obviously lol. If the bills are paid, we're fed, safe, together, then we are successful! Great video; can't wait for the next! Also, praise you both for being teachers. Educators give us so much and get so little in return.

    Why do you have a empty frame on your wall?

    • @JuliesRichLife
      @JuliesRichLife หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hang measuring cups within it . When those are in the dishwasher I take out the little hooks because I think it just looks better without the hooks on camera. Someday maybe I'll get really good with overlays and my text will fit right within the frame - editing goals! Or maybe just make sure the measuring cups are washed before filming...🤣

      Thanks for saying so, it is one of my favorite childhood memories and I hope I can create similar memories with my granddaughter! We overpaid $300 for her mother's birth and that was a huge chunk of change for us at the time! Unfortunately I had no money rules yet and the money just went into the budget which I am sure we really needed!

    Wow. My tools are a notebook and pen. Your budget is waaay bigger than mine. I’m done with December and have my projected 2025 for every month written out. That way I have an idea where debt/ savings/investments will be. I’m planning on retiring in about 5 years. Maybe 7, we will see.

      Cheers to five more for you! Sometimes I have to pinch myself to see how much bigger my budget is than it was just a few years ago when I was in debt and supporting three teenagers. This toddler teacher has a public school teacher sugar daddy... 🤣 A lot of my planning I do with paper and pen but as life got a little busier it was harder to keep up and keep track of other people's receipts. I still do my yearly planning in my paper journal. There is something about the physical act of writing things out that helps it stick in my brain and feel committed to it. Thanks for watching and commenting. It is nice building community in this little corner of the internet.
