How do you distinguish this from IPMN on MRCP?
IPMN of main ductal type will show diffuse dilatation of the main duct while LEC would not be connected to the main duct and not dilate the duct. Side branch IPMN may often have multiple cystic areas and is most common in the head and body wheras LEC is usually in the tail
@LewisHassell-OPEN thank you
My mother was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of Mullerian Origin, Bilateral Ovaries favors Mucinous Adenocarcinoma. Any help on the prognosis and survival rates. She went through Surgery and Chemo. Please reply.
Without further details about the stage of the disease and what treatment options are available, it is hard to offer much useful information on this. It would be best to counsel with the gynecologic oncologist who is treating her for this kind of information. I commend you for going in search of information, but in this case, information from the internet may be misleading and is best ignored, or used as a basis for discussion with the clinical provider. That said, there are good treatments, and more coming, for certain of the gynecologic cancers, offering cure, or prolonged survival in some instances. I hope your mother falls into a favorable category with those.
@@LewisHassell-OPEN Her stage is 2A. Present on right Ovary and fallopian tube and then on left Ovary.
So aggregate survival is around 70% but individual issues can influence that both up or down. mnovarian.org/stage-2/#:~:text=Most%20women%20diagnosed%20with%20Stage,the%20cancer%20responds%20to%20treatment.&text=Treatment%20for%20Stage%202%20ovarian,therapy%20or%202)%20combination%20chemotherapy.
WOW! Dr Hassell , I was studying for step 1 struggling to distinguish CMV and HSV esophagitis histology and I found this video of yours. so informative as usual. I met you last year in Dubai conference if you recall. anyway very happy to find your Chanel. All the best.
Glad it was helpful! Best wishes with STEP 1. Seems so long ago- Dubai! Much has happened since then.

Thanks.
What are the likelihood that the other tumor on my other ovary is also borderline ? Vs cancer - they didn’t biopsy it
It is important to stage borderline tumors. Foci of invasive (low grade serous carcinoma) can be present in the peritoneum or other sites co-existant with a borderline tumor in the ovary. That said, if you already had surgery, there may be reasons to follow clinically rather than going back to stage, but it would depend on factors like risk of surgery, age, size of the tumor(s) and family history. It's not common to find areas of invasion, but it is something we see from time to time (say once a year in a large center.)
I was told I had cancer turned out I had this borderline tumor I’m wondering was it hard to diagnose based on the mri should I have had a second opinion - they wanted me to get a hysterectomy(they told me I had for sure ovarian cancer with no biopsy) I’m glad I didn’t get one
Hello I am a 61 year old female .During a recent emergency bowel resection after a Vovolvus from a hypermobile caecum syndrome, they found in the section that they removed this spirochetosis ...why would this be there when I am an otherwise healthy 61-year-old female, I’ve had no bouts of diahorea other than having had typhoid in the past from going to 3rd world countries, I’ve had no answers from the collerectal surgeons and no treatment .. should i be concerned ? This is an infectious disease is it not ?
There are lots of unanswered questions about this. Most infections are not symptomatic and the source of infection or transmission likewise unknown. Sometimes there is a discharge a bit like diarrhea and some patients have had other risk factors like HIV or immunosuppressant treatment. So if you can keep talking to your care team you may help them “hear” the answers in your story. Otherwise one hopes you continue to be “otherwise healthy!”
Amazing

Thank you so much. Interesting cases. I just joined DPA. I was practising histopathology in Khartoum/Sudan for over 30 years and relate to the change in classifications and naming of tumors with the availability of immunohistochemistry and genetic techniques.
Thank you for the cases

What’s usually the current treatment for GAS?
Cervical cancers are generally treated with surgery and radiation; widely spread tumors may be managed with chemotherapies. Tumor vaccines and other targeted therapies are under study.
Mom got this removed 2 weeks ago 😢 and now are recommending chemotherapy because cancer was detected around the area where the yolk sac tumor was 😞…. If by chance would I be able to take your opinion on this matter ?
Sorry to hear about your mother. This is an uncommon tumor generally, and especially in older women. I do accept consults, whether informal or otherwise, but my expertise is focused around the diagnosis (from tissue or cytology) rather than around treatment decisions. You can email me at lewis-hassell@ouhsc.edu.
Highly educational, thank you.
