Vulcan ACSS reticle the world isn’t a flat range, remain target focused, huge help racking the slide for those with arthritis or other hand strength issues, your eyes only get worse with time
I think you are wrong. In today's world, people are putting in the training as a range head i see it every weekend. For most it's becoming a lifestyle.
I refuse to use a red dot. All my firearms are iron sights. If you use a red dot you truly can’t aim under stress. Or aim without assistance.
I shoot irons as much as red dots and shoot the same times with both. I agree an orange front sight really helps. I also think stock Glocks sights help as well with being able to differentiate the rear and front sights due to being different shapes.
God bless you for doing the lords work .
Always have a red dot on your carry gun or any other pistol too.
JJ Racaza, Nils Jonasson, and Daniel Horner all still shoot irons matches in addition to optics matches. Ben Stoeger recently revealed that his carry gun is an irons-only G17. I think that training and even competing with a dot is extraordinarily beneficial -- it WILL make you a better shooter; it will make your irons shooting better! That said, carrying with a dot carries with it potential issues that I'm still not comfortable with. Dots are greater snag points, and though they've become extremely reliable, Murphy's law and electronics of any kind have never mixed well. My primary carry gun is a Gen3 G19 with the Ameriglo i-Dot night sights.
The same way new shooters use their front sight to match the rear sight is the same way red dot users use a line in top middle of the optic.
The argument is immediately shut once we acknowledge that anyone with a firearm who does not put enough rounds down range is a Dumb ass. Get more training and get familiar with your weapon…period!
You make great content sir 💪🏾
I think this should bring up the question of why dont we talk about training more often. Everybody has 5 minutes to dry fire every single day instead of scrolling tiktok. Just 5 minutes everyday will seriously help any new gun owner
You’re a brave man! But I don’t even see the point of optics for a true real self defense carry? You’re probably not even going to use your sights, let alone being all pretty in your stance and all.
Hey! What’s with the t-shirts on the boards😂😂😂 I love!🙏
The new Primary Arms HTX-1 makes it a lot easier to find the dot quickly.
Thanks for saying this. As a dedicated optics guy ... I've also seen folks "draw to first shot" time go from 3-4 seconds (bad) to 12-14 seconds when you give them a dot (BEYOND bad). I tell these folks - dots only help if you're willing to put in the time. They are extremely punishing of bad technique, much more so than irons, especially the small "K" dots that find their way onto the common micro guns folks are using.
That’s because you’re not telling the user how the dot functions or how to use it. It’s amazing how fudds and old heads have to lie there @ss off because they can’t accept that new technology is superior
12-14 seconds? Stop it
@ new shooter. But I’ve seen this happen a couple of times. One I actually put on the timer and 12 seconds was his average with the dot, 4 seconds with irons. Obviously this dude needed a lot of training, but that brings us back to the point of the video. This guy wasn’t going to train. So I told him he should either commit to 30 days of daily dry fire, or skip the dot entirely.
@ No, I definitely was. See my reply to the other commenter here- the numbers above came from a particular range session with a guy who we put on the timer.
Get it bro.
I prefer night sights on my carry gun with a bright orange insert around the front night sight
I'm not sold on a optics on a carry gun but they are nice for something Glock 19 size and up not a big fan of them on a subcompact or micro compact for me
With proper grip, pistol index, look at the target. The dot will be there. There is no need to hunt for the dot.
I took the red dot off my gun because 1)snags and 2) When at the range at 7 -15 yards I don't see that it would be useful if I had to quickly draw and shoot to defend myself. If we are talking about simply breaking contact with an attacker I would think that once a few bullets started flying we'd both be high tailing it out of there. If I were going to be engaging in a firefight at distance, say 20 yards out or more then I can see a better application, like for law enforcement or military. Just my opinion.
It's not even for that they are good. It's gadgetry for "new people" trying to cut to the front of the line using shortcuts without having the decades behind them in experience. Only people who use red dots on carry pistols are post Obama gun owners young and old who are new. Anybody doing this for 25+ years doesn't have much use for them.
Recovery is coming out with the 2020s within the next month. It has a few extra features. But the biggest will be. Quick access to install without a bolt just a snap in. Have a feeling it will be around 150-350 as in the N is 100-200
My .02 but I don't perceive red dots to be so advanced not to learn the basics with. To me they are much easier for new shooters to learn on. It takes some reps for them to present the gun to find the dot somewhat quickly, but you can practice this for 3-5 mins and they pick it up fast. I've started a lot of new shooters and family members on red dots and in my experience it is much harder to teach them to shoot iron sights, front sight focus/ alignment day 1. Versus proper grip, put the red dot on the target, and trigger control. I do this with a ruger 22 mkiv and a banshee 9mm. Everyone loves these guns with red dots. Part of my goal is always for first time shooters to actually enjoy the experience and want to get into guns /come back to the range. So to me, irons are more advanced as there are more mechanics involved for a new shooter to be consicous of. Same reason most new shooters are not learning on AR15's with iron sights. Red dots are far easier. Also would think in a self defense situation, irons or red dot, a newbie is very likely going to be close range , highly stressed, and point shooting.
at 3 to 7 yards, you don't need red dot.IMO
I'm personally a a fan always of iron. Just a preference
That was very well said. It took me a lot of practice dry fire to be able to pick up the dot and not hunt for it, as well as live fire to not lose the dot for follow up shots. I am curious about the chronological bible you mentioned. I got saved in my mid 20s but am always looking for ways to grow my understanding of the word as well as share it with others. I would love to hear more about it if you have a chance!

Get a dry fire smart mag, a laser ammo cartridge and the mantis system. You'll get there wody.
Asinine!
Draw from concealed with red dot but focus on irons. If you cant draw fast straight to your irons, you will not be able to do red dot. Do this every day. Draw must be perfect to irons. If you can do that, you will find the dot all the time. I use surestrike laser, romeo x enclosed with smaller window and trijicon rmr. Its all in how you present and train.
Did you buy a g43 frame (6rd), and put a 43X slide on it?
Red dots aren't necessary in self defense shooting. They also love to get snagged on clothing. I reached the same conclusion and train for self defense without a red dot. I actually think a laser would be more useful realistically, because you wouldn't even have to use the sights. You don't need to put holes through holes in self defense. You need to get lethal shots off quickly. It's also a good point that it's much easier to not get a sight picture with an optic versus irons.
I'll add a few things. Makes it harder to conceal, holster will be harder to find and more expensive, more to go wrong as there are 4 or more ways a red dot can fail. Lastly, if you ever have to use the thing for defense, guess who's going to be owning the expensive red dot? It aint you.
🎯I use the holosun 32 MOA Circle quick and easy to find the circle. But with a pocket gun irons work just fine personally I mostly carry a DOT🔫 but I do practice both😎
When your vision goes downhill, dots are a new lease on accuracy
And when your hands get weak a new lease on racking the slide. It is a way better place to put the heel of your hand, edge of a table, corner of a wall than a rear sight. Youngster think they are going to be strong and fast forever.
Sub second draw to 1st shot, I’ll keep my red dot. Cowitness sights in case of equipment failure and practice, practice, practice.
What are you using?
@ red dot set up is PSA dagger , swampfox justice rmr with suppressor height sights.
If you aren’t cheating in a gun fight you’re prob going to lose.
I would like the Bible you mentioned. Stay blessed! 🙏🏾

For some reason I can’t shoot a red dot on a pistol as good as I can with irons. But when it comes to my rifle I’m very good with my red dot.
Same
That’s because a pistol should Be a secondary option. Most self defense scenarios Is within 7 yards. It’s probably 10 if I’m wrong. Won’t matter if it’s a dot or iron at that point with your life on the line. Either way, train with both or whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Ahhhh. Finally. Pure retardium.
Great vid. For most people just spending more than 300 dollars on a gun even if they are making good money can be a process then if your trying to explain a red dot extra mags and having ammo on hand it’s a big investment for people. I always let someone shoot my red dots usually they want that after trying it. It may take a while before they get a gun and ultimately get a dot on it. I have family that doesn’t have red dot and many that do. Depending on skill and how much they practice!!
Dots make cool range toys but I don't believe 99% or more of people that are in a SD scenario will even see their sights in that moment of extreme stress that involves the potential to end a life. In the few cases I have had to draw a firearm to defend myself (fortunately did not have to shoot in either instance), I was tunnel vision focused on the threat and the firearm was just a blur in front of me (one case was a handgun, the other case was a shotgun). I would have never seen a dot (or irons for that matter). But if dots make you feel better, go for it.
🤨 should or shouldn’t?? Then why you have red dot on the gun??
@@MasterMindYo did u watch the video
All preferences
Just mounted one this morning and sighted in with a dry fire laser. So far im super happy with the purchase
You have some really good advice. I also like your method of training with shirts on your targets. In addition to using clothing, I also like using the 3d cardboard "threat" targets and will often have 3d "non-threats" scattered on the range in front of the threats so it forces you to work on muzzle discipline and moving to open up proper angles of fire.
Never had, never will. Night sights are the only change i will ever make to my carry Glock. Range toys are totally different and fun times for all gadgets belong there.
Great video! When it comes to carrying a gun I’m a firm believer that it is very individual. Carry what works for you and your situation. Whether it be with a red dot in the appendix position or with iron sights at 3 o’clock.
Dots are the future….i get your point how seeing how your irons are oriented can let you know where you’re sights are but the same way you train control recoil, you can train to find the dot everytime. John Lovell has a really great video on how to find the dot every time. I don’t believe the whole “some people just can’t train to find the dot” everyone is capable of training until they can find the dot consistently. It’s just the ones who don’t like dots just don’t wanna train enough to get there and imo that’s a lazy excuse. It’s good to be proficient with irons. But a red dot reigns supreme especially for newer shooters if they can commit to getting a consistent sight picture
You may want to think about changing to your left hand when shooting from the left side of concealment or cover!
