Don't forget those 2 side lubrication holes for the vertical transmission shaft - machine must stay on the side when putting a drop in each hole, Then turn handwheel a bit and let sit couple of hours on the side. The vertical shaft is most neglected and will start binding at some point. There are also 2 lub holes on the base for the base horizontal shaft - see the manual. There are also 5 pairs of gears which require a smear of thick grease. A pair is hidden under the camstack - use pliers to remove top securing screw and lift the camstack

I've done a couple machines older than this that were REALLY REALLY stuck and with those I use kerosene to melt the hardened oil before I even oil it. Great video though. I just bought the free arm version of this machine and I'm fairly certain it's gonna need some serious oiling. Also gonna put a solid state controller on it cuz I sew slow and those old rheostats heat up more than I'm comfortable with if I use it on carpet.

I remember an ebay case a few years ago when there was a chinese copy of someones safety straps where they were copying the photos also. Some people did get injured from the sub standard products and that's what finally prompted ebay to do something about it. They were ignoring the pleas before that.

You have a story to tell. But having the camera constantly moving is not helpful. You should mount the camera solidly (tripod) and make sure it shows what you are explaining. You can do detail shots and edit the video easily. It doesn't have to be done in one long take.

Thank you!!!! I watched several videos about taking apart, oiling, and fixing Kenmore 158.1410 machines, but this one targeted the exact problem I was having with mine -- and now, it's fixed!!! I can use the zigzag stitch! My mom bought this machine in the early-mid 1970s, it's the one I learned on, and I've had it in my possession for about 25 years. I use it very intermittently, though I made a bunch of masks early in the pandemic. It runs great except I could only sew straight stitches--but now it's fixed, nicely oiled, and running better than ever. Again, thank you!

Hi I have a brother Opus 831. Am trying to do a straight stitch but the needle seems to want to go side to side. Can you please tell me how to change this?
