Alaska, Holland America Cruise
After brief stops in Fiji, Hawaii and Seatle, we boarded an Amtrak train to take us to Vancouver, BC in Canada. From there, we enjoyed 2 nice weeks cruising Alaska's small port towns and beautiful glaciers. We embarked in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, with our first port being the quaint town of Ketchikan, where we enjoyed strolling along Creek Street. We watched as seals playfully swam in the water. Further upstream, we witnessed salmon as they tried jumping and swimming against the current. Juneau was our next stop, where we hiked to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. Our last port city was Skagway, which was a nice town to stroll through the streets and shops.
The highlight for us was cruising through Glacier Bay, College Fjord and near Hubbard Glacier. Just 250 years ago, Glacier Bay was all glacier and no bay. A massive river of ice, roughly 100 miles long and thousands of feet deep, occupied the entire bay. Today, that glacier is gone, having retreated north. Fewer than a dozen smaller tidewater glaciers remain, so we were glad to see them before they completely disappear.
The cruise ship navigated up through Prince William Sound and docked in the small town of Whittier. The ship did cruise through College Fjord, but we got a better close-up view embarking on the 26-Glacier Cruise on a fast catamaran. The highlight of this 150-mile voyage was cruising into College Fjord, named after Ivy League colleges. Along the northwest side of the Fjord, glaciers reflect names of prominent women's colleges, and glaciers on the southwest side bear names of the men's colleges. The most prominent glacier for us was Harvard at the very end.
Our 🧭 compass now points East to Kalispell Montana. From there, we'll continue to make our way across the US to Wisconsin (Milwaukee, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Madison) and Florida to complete our first full trip around the world. From there, we'll embark on a Panama Canal Cruise that terminates in Chile, where we'll spend some time before making our way to the Galapagos islands.

Tonga - Ha'apai Beach Resort - Humpback Whales
มุมมอง 593 หลายเดือนก่อน
We had an amazing time with Ha'apai Beach Resort in the country of Tonga. Tonga is a Pacific island nation of 170 islands stretched out across an 800 km long archipelago. Tongo is located south of Fiji and Somoa, and northeast of New Zealand. It's also located in an area known as the Polynesian Triangle, the vertices of which are Hawaii in the north, Easter Island to the east and New Zealand to...
Pacific Harbor, Fiji - Aqua-Trek Beqa Dive Center
มุมมอง 1783 หลายเดือนก่อน
We enjoyed multiple days of action-packed scuba diving with Aqua-Trek Beqa Dive Center. The highlight was experiencing one the the world's most renowned shark dives, with close encounters with Bull, Nurse and Lemon sharks. The soft coral dives were equally as impressive, as the reefs are healthy and teaming with small fishlife. We definitely recommend this dive if you are looking for an adrenal...
Taveuni, Fiji - Taveuni Dive Resort

We thoroughly enjoyed the island of Taveuni, staying with Carl and Muriel at their Taveuni Dive Resort. It's a lovely resort with just 8 bures and the onsite Salty Fox restaurant. The marina for diving is a short 5-minute walk from the resort. The resort is also very close to the best diving in Taveuni at Rainbow reef. We enjoyed 6 days of wonderful diving, and highly recommend diving here. Our...

Wonderful two weeks stay in the Solomon Islands. We were scheduled to stay on a scuba diving liveaboard, but that got cancelled. No worries, as there are plenty of beautiful islands to visit. We flew into Honiara and spent a couple of days at the remote Parangiju Mountain Lodge. This place has basic accommodations with gorgeous mountain views. We hiked to Tenaru Waterfalls from the lodge, which...

We absolutely loved Australia and are already planning our next pass through. Our last week here we enjoyed Diver's Den Ocean Quest Liveaboard, launching out of Cairns Australia, exploring the Great Barrier Reef. This trip was a special Dwarf Minke Whale expedition, to experience amazing encounters with these inquisitive whales that happen at the peak of their migration every June and July. Thi...

Amazing month exploring the East side of Australia, starting in Sydney followed by North Stradbroke Island, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. We were thrilled with the natural beauty and cleanliness of each location. We were impressed with the walkability of Sydney, as we easily walked from our place to the CBD and the famous Sydney Opera House. Along the way, we walked through well-maintained parks...

We made Vietnam our home for four weeks and loved it. Many people tour Vietnam North to South (Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City), visiting popular sites along the way, or vice versa. what camera is this taken with? Incredible!!! Also did you do a package? I'm saw the name of this resort on reddit somewhere because I was orginalyl considering vava'u but then some suggested Ha'pai. Any thoughts?
Hi Stephanie, the underwater videos were shot with a GoPro Hero 12 and underwater pictures with a TG 6. The above water shots were taken with my cell phone. We did purchase a package Ha'apai Beach Resort, which included accommodations, food and daily trips searching for humpbacks. We were pretty happy with our experience staying with Ha'apai Beach Resort , but I don't have anything to compare it to. Also note that we had trouble paying for our flights from the main Tonga airport (Fuaʻamotu International Airport (TBU)) to Ha'apai. We ended up paying Ha'apai Beach Resort to purchase our local flights, which was quite nice of them.
Nice vid.. oh the hairy scofpionfish was a Ambon scorpionfish.. it's common name
Ah, an Ambon Scorpionfish, good to know. Wonderful diving in Lembeh!
Thank you for the beautiful video. I’m currently planning my trip to Raja Ampat. Are the same dive spots accessible from both Gam and Kri? Which base did you prefer more?
Most of the dive sites are accessible from both Kri and Gam. However, I believe Kri is a bit more centrally located, and closer to Melissa's Garden dive site. We personally preferred Yembuba homestay on Kri. It has a nice hiking trail to the Viewpoint lookout, closer to the waterfall hike and nice social area by the dive center to meet other divers. However, we met a diver who preferred the quiet solitude of Tau Yado House on Gam. Best of luck on your trip.
Thank you so much for all information , I only have one quesiton... how do you go from Kingfisher Lodge to dive centre ..do the dive centre offer pick up drop off? or you rent a car for this trip? Amazing and informative film for all divers .
We really enjoyed our stay there, as well as diving. We simply walked from the lodge to the dive center, which I believe was about a 10 - 15-minute walk. The dive center may offer a pickup if you don't walk to walk with your dive gear. You'll love staying at Kingfisher, the hosts are super nice.
looks awesome
Woooooo yes!
Hello, do you have more records of the baby sharks?
Hi Vanessa, unfortunately I didn't record more of the baby sharks, as we were just enjoying the moment.
I would love to get your views on this boat, if possible. How were the comfort level (cabin, lounge, dive deck), food, and dive staff? TIA
My initial impression of the dive boat wasn't good, as the exterior looks more like a commercial boat than luxury live aboard. However, we were pleased with the interior comfort of the boat. The boat has multiple bedding configurations from twin beds to queen. We had a queen bed, with the on suite bathroom being adequate for a dive boat. The food and crew were nice. In my opinion, the nicest part of the boat is the very spacious dive platform. Each diver had plenty of space. I would dive on this boat again.
@@KrisNChrisHenry that's very helpful! Thank you. I was trying to find some reviews for this boat but there are not many online. I am glad to hear the dive platform is spacious; I definitely want to avoid the repurposed dive boat type because it's just not comfortable and can be quite dangerous to gear up and get on the zodiac etc.
That was amazing...thank you
It was good diving there

Such great videos! What camera are you guys using to get these shots?? We're considering diving in SE asia this winter / next spring, but will have a baby in tow so keen to find somewhere that isn't too remote and is just a nice place to stay for a week too! Your videos are useful inspiration!
Hello George & Charlie, I see you guys love to travel as well, I just started to follow you. You'll love SE Asia. We spent 11 months there and really enjoyed the scuba diving along with living simply in the various cities. My only advice would be to check the weather outlook in each country to avoid the rainy monsoon season. We're traveling full time, so we need to keep our camera gear as light as possible. Kris shoots with an Olympus TG6 with an underwater housing, and she primarily takes pictures. This camera really excels at macro. I shoot with a GoPro 8 and mainly capture videos. We each have two video lights, although many times I don't have the lights on when taking wide video. The best tip is to post-edit the pictures and videos to remove the blues/greens from the water, such as Dive+ app, available for Android and IOS. It's very easy to use and does a pretty good job to clean up the pics and videos.
I have been to Mafia island a couple of times it is very virgin and unexplored
Agreed, we very much enjoyed our time in Mafia
Love from India❤
your video quality is very good, but your channel not optimize and not video SEO as a result, good views are not coming. I can help you as much as possible to solve these problems if you want

I am a budding undewater videographer. What video camera are you using, if I may ask? Any color editing during the process? Thanks. Your video shots are very impressive.

Great question. Kris and Chris do a tremendous job, and their videos are amazing. And I give them kudos for mentioning Dive+. Because even with lights, UW scenes don't look like that. I use two Sea Dragons and I find that most items beyond, say 2 meters or so, reliably demonstrate their depth dependent color loss. But that is my niche and my schtick here on TH-cam. I post unprocessed raw videos so that travelers can see what diving really looks like before trying it. (I won't link my channel, that way you surf through all the awesome content on TH-cam, including this channel!). You'll know it when you see it though. Since I also just traveled on the MY Palau Sport. Two thumbs up for John and his crew. -Deco
Nice buaken
Thanks
Wow, just wow. Awesome photography and video guys. Amazing place.
Thanks Chris, this is one of our favorite places to dive (so far).
Another excellent video. Wow! Apo, Coron & Tubbataha all in one itinerary, eh? Have dived several locations in the Philippines over the years but Tubbataha was the bees knees for me. Dived with a 14 foot juvenile whale shark one day and spotted it again the next day at the surface, so slipped into the water from our chase boat inbetween dives, snorkelling to its vicinity, whereupon it swam straight towards me, passing about a metre away, circled around, headed for me again and butted me in the chest as though it wanted a closer inspection! All captured on GoPro, must upload it to TH-cam one day! At which island did you encounter the dugong?
Seeing whale sharks at Tubbataha would definitely put it over the top. Unfortunately we didn't encounter whale sharks on our trip. We dove with Dugongs near Dugong Watch beach, just search Google maps for it
Your nicely shot video came up on my feed and so decided to subscribe since you've videoed some of the locations in SE Asia I've dived in the past 20 years since I did my first scuba dive 50 years ago this year! Must say Raja Ampat & Tubbataha are my favourites. It would've been the icing on the cake if you could've shown the interiors of some of the homestays' eating & shower facilities to complement your exterior shots. How was the food? To put a cherry on top of the cake why not consider purchasing a small camera drone (DJI Mini 4 Pro is excellent) to add aerial shots to your u/w & land video? After doing liveaboard's & higher end eco resort facilities I too am contemplating staying longer and utilising locally owned accommodations next time I visit the area. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the nice reply. I agree with you that Raja Ampat & Tubbataha are our favorites, but Komodo ranks right up there. I didn't include pics/videos of shower or interior areas as they are as primitive as it gets - just being honest so you're not surprised. The bungalow is a square room with a bed and desk. Electricity is only on in the evening, since the homestay has to run a generator. Meals are very basic and repetitive, but enough to get nourishment for the day, definitely not on par with a liveaboard or dive resort. But that is part of the charm and adventure. We would do the homestay again.
Lovely underwater world. Will join a tour there nezt year. Thata for sure.
It's amazing, you won't regret it

Love the video. I am also looking forward to joining this crew for a dive trip this march
Hopefully your trip will be as nice.
This looks awesome! Would love to hear more about the experience as I have just made a reservation for Lucky Marine liveaboard in January. Which dive sites did you go to? How did you find the comfort of the boat? What was the food like? Anything else you think I should know about this trip? Thanks!
We actually did back-back trips onboard Lucky Marine, and we're just now finishing our second trip. We really enjoyed our time onboard and would join this boat again. The crew is amazing and did everything to make the experience enjoyable. The crew definitely look out for our safety, as we changed dive sites multiple times to avoid rough conditions. I don't recall all of the dive sites in the Similans but know that we skipped some of the further north islands because of rough sea conditions. We found the food onboard to be very delicious and plentiful. The water temperature varied throughout the dives. Typical temp was about 27 C, but we'd hit 24 c thermocline occasionally, but fortunately it would go back up to 27. Wishing you calm seas and warm water for your trip.
wow! beautiful fishes. I love your video.

@@marioharscher1243 thanks Mario, it was good diving in the Similans

It was an adventurous trip, glad we got to meet.
Wow you had a fantastic time diving with the tiger sharks. I need to experience that thrill. I am a senior citizen and I wonder if I can still physically cope up with scuba diving, though I have an advanced Padi scuba license since I was diving when I was younger. How is the diving there, is it easy enough and not scary diving with the huge tiger sharks? Let me know. Thanks.
It's great you are still interested in diving. If you haven't dove in the past 6 months, any good dive operator will have you do a refresher course one on one with a dive guide or instructor. We've done numerous shark dives, so it's not scary. If you want to learn more about shark behavior before doing this dive, I suggest searching for Ocean Ramsey, who has some great videos on what and what not to do. The diving in Fuvahamulah is not challenging. You dive with the tiger sharks right at the entrance to the port. Good luck.
