Your tips are spot on, exactly what I needed.
Next year L6, MG9, Marvel R! Possibly Cyber GTS early 2026.
I sat into a Cyberster yesterday, it fitted me perfectly. very tempting, but being in my Eighties, perhaps not a car for me. Pity.
Software is the reason I haven’t bought another new MG even though it has been really reliable. Tesla has managed to do OTA updates since they first started so there can’t be an excuse that it can’t be done.
It can be done as feature enabled on Cyberster but no reliable UK server... apparently
Great podcast chaps. Have a great Christmas 🎄
I am a ZS EV Trophy Connect owner and love the car. You talked about MG Service levels and I must say that my infotainment unit is iffy and has never been fixed properly. Different dealers always have stated that the MG servers are down so over 2 years it is still iffy. Why don’t MG UK get their act together? I worked in retail and was taught that repeat business is the cheapest way of generating sales. Do I stay with MG UK at the next change? Thanks for the podcast. 👍
I've the same problem with my MG4 Trophy. It was supposed to be done in the first year's service but the update didn't work. I took it back months later. Left it with the dealers for a whole day but they still couldn't get the infotainment software updated!
I was hoping for news of an "MG2". Would be great to see a smaller EV from MG. MG3 Hybrid should have been available as EV too, but unfortunately not (yet).
Yes I agree. The MG4 is very capable but a smaller cheaper version would be world beating.
Do you know how to re set the speed on the cruise control? Setting it to 70 on the motorway I couldn’t find how to reset it to 30 when I came off the motorway other than to manually drop the speed one by one
As the podcast goes on its SO annoying as you talk over Miles. Miles you are a very patient man.
You Guys kept talking over each other and not letting Miles a word in edgways. he has the expeerience and I would have liked to hear more from him. otherwise a good podcast.
a hard top convertible would look lovely
can someone do something with the 1971 1972 triumph spit fire like the mg has done with cyberster the triumph spit fire a beautiful ever lasting shape with beautiful lines its timeless
Thanks for all of that chaps, great practical. Had a Nissan Leaf 40kWH for 4 years and now have had a MG4 Trophy long range for a year. So will have a go in my EV in Europe very soon. Have driven thousands of miles in petrol and diesel cars in Europe. Bob in Kent England.
Please make a video on using ABRP with live SOC data with different non Tesla cars like the MG4
When is the MG RX9 going to launched in the UK ? This will be the SUV model that sits above the MG HS. The global debut of this model was recently in Saudi Arabia
Just a note on the boot liner for the CYBERSTER , I bought the same material exactly the same colour for my MG ZS EV long range that I’ve owned for 23 months from new , I bought fitted mats for the front & rear , the material worn so easy and looked awful , I ended up taking them out , they honestly didn’t last 5 minutes , I managed to get a free full set of carpet mats from the MG garage I bought car from , I’m sure for the boot it probably won’t be a issue , but stay well clear using this material for car mats , looks good when new that’s about it
I had an MGB roadster in the early 80's. The natural up to date replacement ( but much better ) is the Mazda MX5, which i now own and have done for over 20 years. I can't think why anybody wanting a rag top sports car would ever buy a soulless, heavy EV as a sports car replacement. .It won't have the longevity my car has had either. No. just No !
This is quite an interesting format. thanks a lot for bringing it along. As someone interested in the ev roadster, there seems to be a lot of drama all about the MG customer service - or better to say non-service. Since this seems to be a very long story in the making, where are the hopes coming from, this situation would actually improve some day?
Given the screen layout...it badly needs a yoke wheel.
Bit of an odd comment about the unused real estate on the power meter given cars since forever have had Speedos that go up to 200mph with a top speed of ~100mph 😂
What temperature range battery management system maintains battery in mg ev car
Very interesting to see you guys feedback on the cyberster. Another step forward into more premium territory for MG.
Who gives monkeys about this sports car. was this episode about people who have done so well in life? So the worst episode so far absolute s**** give us information on the new zs would be far more informative otherwise will be deleting and not be watching again👎
Moving from 455V to 449V BMS, does it impact the range? Or do we talk for 1-2 miles sacrifice but improved longevity?
I wince when i see someone’s brought this car new. It will lose money probably like no other car as unfortunately new ev depreciation + being an Mg (all the best getting it repaired when it goes wrong) I’m afraid is likely to equal disastrous depreciation. I hope I’m wrong for anyone who buys one, I really do.
what about that NICE nEW layout on infotainmant screen i see comming. anybody heart anything
Nice podcast, thanks, subscribed
Cant wait for its launch in 🇮🇳
In Australia - warm nights are sportscar heaven........the sun is a killer.
My MG4 when put on charging ..stops after a few minutes of charging and I jad to restart charging either on app or go to the pod and reconnect it
Great information, very glad to get all of it. I have one query that wasn't answered in the podcast though. When doing the <10% to 100% AC charge that was mentioned near the end, is it important that the charge is uninterrupted all the way? My feeling is that it is, because of the hysteresis curve, and the car not knowing which arm its on (charging or discharging) if the charge is stopped and started again in the middle. Especially with the LFP batteries. But I'm not sure. Can anyone clarify this?
Don't give your wife an Xpower, she'll crash it!!! 😄
My understanding is that LFP batteries still degrade when left fully charged but less so than NMC batteries as they are more rugged, partly due to the chemistry, partly due to a lower nominal cell voltage. The reason for fully charging them often is, because the LFP battery has a flatter discharge curve, that is a small votage variation with charge level, the battery management system needs a full charge to properly the ballance the pack. The NMC battery has a prononced voltage drop as it is dishcharged and the BMS czn more easily read the charge level of the cells. You covered this at the end of the talk. Thanks for the very usful info.
Great podcast discussion. well done all.
Hi I enjoyed the podcast and all the relevant information. My question is I have a 2022 MG4 Trophy which I've owned from new and have only covered just under 7000 miles will I harm the battery if I charge it to 100% and then not use the car for a couple of days, say after doing a balance charge. The car has never been on rapid charger .Thanks in advance.
Note the NMC battery in the trophy can be balanced reasonably successfully at 80% SOH because the voltage range is greater than an LFP and therefore the BMS understands what 80% should look like. From my understanding not 100% charging may mean the BMS doesn’t understand the full potential range, but that should be recovered when you do eventually charge to 100%. Whereas repeated charging to 100% and leaving at a high state of charge for days will have a physical effect on range that can’t be recovered. Hence as an owner not generally doing long journeys, I haven’t been charging to 100% as much as suggested
I have the Mk1 ZS ev and the performance in the winter (or under 5c ish), when the battery is down to 30% ish, the power just plummets, down to 50% power by the time it's down to 15-20%. I've heard that there is a firmware that enables battery heating but generally not offered as standard in the UK. Would this help with the issue?
Very intersting show again guys, thank you!
Thanks for this podcast. I just want to suggest to MG if it's possible to convert the battery button on the MG Zs EV MK1 to show state of charge/ battery Percentage instead of the range that we have already on the screen. I believe it's a software update fix. Thank you
Great discussions - Many thanks 👍
ABRP with Vlink OBD has made my MG4 SE brilliant, add to that wireless CarPlay via Carlinkit Dashcam. Love it! 14k miles in 9 months. 😊
Awful presenting styles, and why only a partial screen.
Perhaps the presentation is just a side point? A discussion piece.
It's an amateur podcast aimed at MG EV owners. Sorry it didn't meet your expectations. I on the other hand found it very interesting.😀
Our BYD Seal is LFP and with more range than our old Tesla LFP. We like to sleep soundly at night.....and it's a gorgeous keeper.
Please create video with chapters for quick reference. This was enabled for some previous videos. Thanks
I find the safety systems on the MG4 to be dodgy - I think NCAP are in denial about this and should rethink the requirements. I look forward to getting the 'software improvements'! 😃
Really disappointing that MG still doesn't do OTA updates - my previous Range Rover was doing this years ago. My MG4 is a fairly early one and the software is a bit weak - OTA updates would be great!
I'm an EV convert, but I don't think EV subsidies is the right way to go - the UK's car production is in decline and few EVs are made here - a subsidy would not help the UK economy - just bank roll Chinese makers. Having said that, I don't think we should impose tariffs on EV imports either. The proposed changes to EV UK road tax are a disincentive too, especially as so many will incur the 'luxury' annual tax....
They can do 1500 a year in Thailand and China. UK is close but price is hindering
5 seconds in an EV is different to 5 seconds in an ICE. Torque is higher in EV. Porsche selling the badge. Porsche EV will start at 65-70k for base at best
That's the key thing re. EVs ... the drive. Once you've experienced it the thought of going back to ICE makes me shudder. Re. customer services ... are MG going to be clever about this or are they still going to just be Smart? 😉 Re. Cyberster registrations ... how come the reviewers have had test cars with UK VRM plates? How have those cars been registered?
Tell me where I'll get it today
