Saint Columba: Apostle of Scotland / Seeking Salvation on Rattlesnake Island
This blog/documentary is a visual experience to inspire religious vitality in others and bring us closer to God. While telling the life of Saint Columba, I journey to Rattlesnake Island on a 3-day water fast to quit smoking to attempt to animate visually the spirit that lead our ancestors to become great men and women of God. I touch on the importance of Celtic and Anglo history preservation in a time of great hostility towards Christian and white culture, tying in things like Saint Columba's Story with the Loch Ness Monster to the Folklore of the Ogopogo on the very lake I'm crossing. And that we should be proud of our history, ancestors and re-discover our culture. To imitate the saints as they imitate Jesus, on the journey to become deified in the image and likeness of Christ the Savior.

Hi Austin. This is beautiful! I am Catholic and am wanting to do an icon corner. Yours is beautiful! Would you put the Etsy links for the items in the description? Also, I would love to see more videos especially since I am learning: 1. I’d definitely like to see how to properly light everything! Those wicks, the oil lamp, the incense. 2. Also, how do you use your corner? You mention you pray in the morning and night. Could you do a morning and night routine? 3. Also, it be interesting to see how you do things differently in an orthodox home versus before because of your faith. 4. What do the holidays look like in an orthodox home? Do you do a Christmas tree? Do you celebrate on the 25th? Do you fast or feast during Advent? I have many more ideas of things I’d love to know! I pray Our Lord will bless you and make your channel very fruitful for Him. It is not often you see a man leading his family in the faith.

@@BeverlyKrumpelman Hey! Your the best, thanks for the message. It’d be great to make another video and show how we pray etc I’ve attended a few Catholic Churches and think they are great 😊 I’m a big supporter of western rite which is essentially liturgy of St Gregory in English but orthodox communion. So definitely love Catholics and western Christianity for sure. Because most orthodox use the Julian calendar the saint feast days and holidays are different but every orthodox cheats Christmas because it is too big of a national holiday. Celebrating it on a different day is to weird for most. I actually think the calendar thing is super annoying. Haha It’s not something I get into arguements about. Some orthodox just fully use the modern calendar and good for them. Orthodox fast a lot too. So during advent you would be expected to fast 40 days like in lent. I would say that advent is observed, the time before Christs birth is exciting and a time to add a few more traditions, prayers and mediations into the normal routines.

Another one fell for the rhetorical trick of the word “Orthodox” in the word. Where in the Bible do you see Jesus commanding us to pray to saints, asking them to pray for us? Does he not teach us that we can pray to our Father, who art in heaven? I know, some EO’s explain this with “when we sin, we yet again break our relationship with God, and so we need a saint to reopen the line”. No. When the prayer says “forgive us our trespasses” - it implies that we can come to him even when we have sinned. Sure there are issues in Protestant circles, and I hope you focus on Christ even in the EO church. But our God is a jealous God, and he wants your prayer and worship… not you praying to someone, in the hopes they might call him for you.

A good story, and one I hear repeated so often by those outside the church. Among the agnostics and atheists, the top critique on their very long list is that christians can't even make up their own minds, pointing to the many denominations as proof of this. And the situation is worsened by the churches themselves always changing. I remember as a kid when the catholic nuns worked hand-in-glove with the feminists outside the church to demand they be allowed to not wear their traditional habits all the time. I remember how that struck me hard, seeing the nuns betray their oaths, taking the side of outsiders against their very own, just to get out of doing something that they had agreed to when they signed up for the job. While a lot of people will say that "the lord works in mysterious ways", I think folks are quick to ignore the fact that the devil also works in mysterious ways. When the nuns sided with the outsiders, aligning with feminism over their vows to the catholic church, that drove away thousands of people who were on the fence, almost ready to join the church. Those people, myself amongst them, saw the betrayal for just that. And, as said in Mathew 12:25, "a house divided cannot stand," The devil got his way that day, to the detriment of all. As a blacksmith and student of the traditional trades, I have noticed this pattern repeating itself in countless iterations. Culture is the collection of a thousand little things that you do every day. It's the traditions you pass down, even if you don't understand them. It's the language and the foods. It's the works of your hands. And there's nothing the devil loves more than getting people to give up their Culture because he understands that those old ways, the reverence people show for their ancestors, also anchor the people and give them a sense of solidity that is contrary to the devil's purposes. If you are always changing, being "progressive" and open to new ideas, new ways, who even are you? If you are ever open to change, how can you grow closer to God who is unchanging? When you think about it, which side appears to benefit the most from constant change, where things are always unsure and fluctuating? Why that is so hard, though, is because it means you have to make very tough calls that aren't going to be fun or popular. We have to remember that there's truth to the saying that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." This saying was created as a warning to people. It was to caution you to go slowly and really think about what you were proposing. It might seem like a good idea in the moment, but if you look down the road a bit and see where it's leading you, it might be wise to reconsider things no matter how much that appears harsh in the moment. Look around you and ask yourself how you can tell the average christian apart from the average communist atheist. They look the same, wear the same clothes, shop at the same stores, eat the same foods, read the same books, watch the same movies.... Aside from the Amish who work hard to set themselves apart and fight to maintain their culture, christians are indistinguishable from the very worst of their detractors. Until you talk to one and hear them espouse christian views, you'd have no idea that they were at all different from their devoted opposition. That's where culture, tradition, and heritage come into play, and why they are so important. Here, we can learn lessons from the Amish, jews and muslims. They might go about things differently, but they are holding to their ways and don't apologize for it. They might fight amongst themselves, but they don't hesitate to circle the wagons when there's even a hint of an attack from outsiders. In most of what was once Christendom, it is now illegal to even hint at criticizing jews, and there are people currently in prison for just that. That's how hard that tribe works to advance their agenda. But what have christians done? Where once Europe and America was a bulwark of christian ethics and thought, which many would credit for raising Europe up to the very apex of culture, now the lands are overrun by outsiders and non-believers. Christianity has collapsed, and the state of Christendom is not in a good place. How did this happen? Look through the history books and you'll see how time and time again, christians proved to be too tolerant, too quick to give up some small part of their local culture and heritage. They allowed outsiders inside their walls in the name of "being nice". They practiced Telescopic Philanthropy, engendering anger and resentment in the very people they were supposed to be helping. On and on it goes. It seems that at every turn, christianity succumbed to the Spirit of Judas rather than uphold the Spirit of Christ. When the Great Schism happened, I have no doubt that the devil's hand was at work there. Even the likes of Martin Luther seem to show this - his innate dissatisfaction with the catholic church causing him to seek out something new, some understanding that evaded him. Where he went wrong was in not returning to the original church. Rather, he compounded the problem, likely because he didn't even know of what happened with the Orthodox church, that it was still there and working, so he tried to come up with some way of making things make sense. And in so doing, he created more problems that would ripple out over the centuries to come. I think that's why so many have turned their backs on the church and christianity as a whole. They want to be part of something bigger than themselves, but it can't be christianity because people hunger for solidity and order, not "progress" and rules that seem to be always changing. I know that's been my experience. I can forge the iron and it will remain for a thousand years so long as it's cared for. And that same ironwork will be rotted to dust in a decade just as soon as you stop caring for it.

The filioque controversy is simply something orthodox reject however they have really no reason to reject its historical consensus among the early church especially in second council of nicea the patriarch of Constantinople tarasios stated "I believe in one God the Father almighty, and in one Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God and our God, born of the Father timelessly and eternally, and in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father through the Son and is acknowledged to be himself God, a consubstantial Trinity, sharing the same honor and throne, eternal, uncreated, the maker of all creatures, one rule, one Godhead and lordship, one kingship and power and authority in three hypostases. ⁃ The Acts Of The Second Council Of Nicaea, Sess. 3, Tarasios' Profession Of Faith (Richard Price, p. 211) tarasios obviously supports the filioque and the filioque model is *the holy spirit proceeds from the Father through the Son* or I prefe *the holy spirit proceeds from the Father Nad the son* now both are filioque and valid I'm happy for byzantine catholics using the first model but back to the topic tarasios obviously states a filioque model he supports and it's evident that even Eastern father's like Gregory of nyssa spoke about this exact modal now the problem is the orthodox church refuses to recognize this modal and states "To the same, who say that the Father is, through the Son, the cause of the Spirit, and who cannot conceive the Father as the cause of the hypostasis of the Spirit ⁃ giving it existence and being - except through the Son...we cut them off from the membership of the Orthodox, and we banish them from the flock of the Church of God." ⁃ Second Synod of Blachernae, Tomus, #3, 1285; Aristeides Papadakis, Crisis in Byzantium. now orthodox certainly can interpret the letter tarasios made as the announcement was only a relationship but regardless the relationship is still theological understanding and saying the procession that's unrecognizable to the model the orthodox use is honestly contradicting and self refuting they used accept the filioque model as tarasios
