Responsible Faith
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ก.พ. 2013
I hope this channel will encourage viewers toward critical thinking and Biblical study. It's important to take personal responsibility for our faith, not just believing everything we're told. Having been raised UPC, I think too many of us were raised with "fear-based teaching" and I hope to take some of the fear out of walking with Jesus. The gospel can become so complicated that it doesn't feel like good news anymore. I'm on a journey to strip things down to the simplicity of the true gospel (minus legalistic rules & traditions of men). I also hope to shine a light on the ongoing problem of spiritual/sexual abuse within the Christian community in general.
Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)
28. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

And to think this young lady will not be the next victim of a useless degree from IBC married at 20. All because her parents and her decided to debunk religion and gain a relationship.
The same church women criticizing others for wearing makeup, can be found in the ladies bathroom curling their eyelashes, putting on clear mascara and, lipgloss and enhancing facial cream.
Ugh I was one of TWO upc students in a large high school. I’ll never forget it snowed once (which it rarely snowed where I grew up) and I wore a knee length blue jean skirt to school because in my head that looked less stupid than the long blue jean skirt. And this girl looked at me in disbelief and said “it’s snowing outside! Why are you wearing that?” I was as confused as she was. Core memory.
That was an excellent interview! Thank you for sharing, Aubrynn. My daughter is your age, and we left around the same time. I'm sure there is a lot that she can relate to, and I know there are likely many others.
We realize that scriptures are subject to misinterpretation even by you. But I don’t see how you can skirt around the fact that the Bible teaches a woman should wear a covering on her head whether it be her own uncut hair or a special covering of some sort.
Whatever it means, the scripture teaches that women should wear a covering. (Church culture). For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority.” 1 Corinthians 11:10 NLT
My church has never put out rules for those in the congregation. We do have a higher standard for those in leadership roles. But If obeying scripture is “rules” I guess that’s what we do.
The practice of long hair on women and short hair on men has nothing to do with Greek or American culture. It has everything to do with CHURCH culture. “But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God’s other churches.” 1 Corinthians 11:16 NLT
7:37 Amen and amen. Religion tries to project issues on other vs. the issue within their own heart! That was a time for that man to fervently seek Jesus for a new heart on how to see women. Especially younger children!
This happens more often than people know. Thank you for your courage and strength in sharing your story.
It does unfortunately. Praying Deanna’s channel just continues to shed a light on this and reach those who are needing to know they are not alone ❤
We are sick of seeing your sexuality all day everyday
Just went through this over the weekend with my grandpa.
So sorry for your loss.
Thank you for sharing this. I personally saw the actions of predators destroy the church and the congregation. Geronimo Aguilar, Jack Schaap, and Lloyd Davis were all predators; Davis' victims were male.
responsible faith ... great channel name ... and great video. i would add some comment about RESPONSIBLE FAITH operating in true shepherds: col 1 - i now rejoice in MY SUFFERINGS FOR YOU ... eph 3 - therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at MY TRIBULATIONS FOR YOU, which is your glory. acts 20 - i have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. yes, you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. I HAVE SHOWN YOU IN EVERY WAY, BY LABORING LIKE THIS, THAT YOU MUST SUPPORT THE WEAK sadly, this has been replace by "i'm an awesome expositor of the word, therefore you must assume i am pure in my motives and pay attention only to my right hand and don't think about what i'm doing with my left even though i obviously have a high net worth, enjoy owning multiple homes ON YOUR DIME, while i craft an approach by which any one of you can be kicked out of the camp."
Thank you for this video clip. Former UPCI here.
I appreciate your story. I have a UPC background as well. I broke away from them later in life, however, the name of Jesus is still working for me. I am a 57 year old woman who played hookie from school at 9-10 yr old, and found myself reading my bible in moms bed while she was at work. I asked God about "these three". I found out God is all in all, and these three are all in Him. Im not in UPC anymore, but Jesus is still my God. I wear pants because I should at my job. God keeps me young and beautiful without stuff. He has kept me very young looking. I cover my body tho. Im at peace in a very wonderful way. THANK YOU for this clip.
The indoctrination of upci is highly controlling, very abusive. 😢😢❤Bless her for the feelings she had cutting her hair.
Deana Jo thankyou for such a beautiful video, young lady Aubrynn is beautiful, x ❤what weight to carry. Praying you all can have peace ❤Jess
So I want to start by saying I don't disagree with almost anything you say. But I do want to offer a single disagreement that isn't even a complete disagreement. You have to stop saying it's easy on the guys, "they don't have to do anything" some of us carry a lot of emotional damage from the upci. As a guy who played sports and loved swimming, who eventually went on to work in construction, much of my life was ripped away as a young man because of dress standards. And being mocked by co-workers every day in the summer for being in long pants and sleeves while the other guys had on shorts and tanks. It was very emotionally damaging. As young people we don't rate our trauma on a sliding scale. We don't feel better about being mocked in front of large groups because "at least we weren't a girl". It actually feels like you are disregarding the men In the same way the upc does when you say that stuff. Having said all that. I know the girls had a horrible time, and I hate that I saw almost my entire generation get destroyed emotionally and socially. I grew up in one of the most prominent churches in the country. People come here for help. I've been out a long time now and I'm at peace with it all but many are not yet
Reminds me of Jim Jones
AND MANY SHALL FOLLOW THEIR PERNICIOUS WAYS; BY REASON OF WHOM THE WAY OF TRUTH SHALL BE EVIL SPOKEN OF. {2 PETER 2:2}. I FIND IT VERY INTERESTING THAT PRETTY MUCH EVERY TIME ANY PEOPLE STARTS TALKING ABOUT THEM LEAVING A CHURCH THAT PREACHES THE TRUTH {I AM APOSTOLIC BUT NOT UPC) THEY START THEIR CONVERSATIONS BY TALKING ABOUT THE OUTWARD HOLINESS STANDARDS!! THEN IT GOES FROM THERE, AND THEY START SPEAKING AGAINST SPEAKING IN TONGUES!! IT IS SO SAD THAT YOU SPEND SO MUCH OF YOUR TIME SPEAKING AGAINST THE UPC. I ALSO NOTICE THAT YOU HAVE A HABIT OF PUTTING WORDS IN PEOPLE'S MOUTHS AS THEY ARE TALKING. WOMEN LIVED WITH THESE HOLINESS STANDARDS FOR MANY MANY YEARS.
If you typed this on a PC, you can press the "caps lock" button and it will return your keyboard to normal...unless you meant to "shout," in which case, carry on.
@@ResponsibleFaith Thank you for the tip.
I’ve been in the UPCI my entire life going on 27 years now and for the first 7 years I was part of a WPF church (at the time they were UPCI as the WPF was not yet formed). And I WILL say one thing. Uncut hair IS FALSE DOCTRINE PERIOD! But just because they’re wrong about that I can’t leave the organization where else would I go that preaches the oneness truth?
Wow I'm so sorry you experienced things like that. Those experiences should be between you and the Lord! I pray Jesus is using you in his kingdom.
Why don't yall just be truthful and realize that you have slacked off in your prayer life you let yourself get weak and the world. Your flesh was pulling on you and you left
40 years adopted at birth and raised in an “old time apostolic Pentecostal” church . Left 2 years ago now. These stories are all so similar. Control, manipulation, removal of fathers and replacement by pastors in Gods plan. Dictator style life. Expected to ask to go to the next town if it was overnight. So very sad. Thank you God for realization and a closer walk with you.
Aubrynn, you have a beautiful heart and love for God. You don't know me, but your parents, Katie and Clay, can tell you about me. It is so freeing to be delivered from religion and to walk in relationship with Jesus. Keep walking one on one with Him and He will direct your steps. Pray for those who are still held captive in the UPCI.
'Tyranny of the Weaker Brother' by RC Sproul is a great teaching to listen to regarding this too! My hubby shared it with me during his rabbit hole research...
Yes! That's an excellent sermon.
Wow!! This totally hits home for me!! My story is a little more crazier but similar to Andrew's!! Thanks for sharing your story!!
❤️❤️❤️
Powerful story
Excellent interview and this young lady now has a beautiful testimony! I have granddaughters… I hope their parents study things out too!!! 🥺
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thanks for sharing your story.i was in upci for 48 years and came out you can see alot better looking from the outside .God wants us to walk with him in freedom.
I wasn’t ever even allowed to swim with girls no matter what they had on dress long shorts it didn’t matter
Yay so excited when I saw the notification about this just starting the video❤
Not all Oneness Apostolics are UPCI churches and the rules are different.
Yes, that's true. And many of the pastors will try to pretend their various (sometimes conflicting) rules and standards are directly from God. #authorofconfusion?
Alicia, thank you for sharing your story. ❤
Aubrynn, Thank you for being so strong and brave. You will for sure be helping many parents and young ladies and teens your age so very much. Your love for God is clearly strong and your love for people as well. Keep up the faith and never let that go. Never lose who you are and how you treat others. I am nothing but proud of the beautiful, loving, caring and truly wonderful person you are.❤❤❤❤
Aubrynn, you are so well spoken. You articulated your experience so well! Thank you for being so brave. Watching this made me so grateful that my little girl will be able to live in freedom for her entire childhood. We left when she was only 2. Wonderful interview!
She did such an amazing job and spoke from her heart. This will definitely help other teens and also parents deciding to leave the UPCI or stay for their children. Thank you for being so brave and speaking your truth. I know one day, this will help my daughter as she struggles to blend into both worlds right now too. God bless ❤
I totally agree, she did a great job! ❤️ It's not easy sorting through beliefs with so much fear build into them.
❤
It's funny how UPCI pastors see girls cut their after leaving and preach about how it's the first thing they do... They have no idea how long any of them wait to cut their hair before leaving. They just see them months later with shorter hair and act like they just didn't experience passage of time in between. I have yet to hear a testimony of a woman who left and immediately cut her hair.
If they did, I suspect they spent a long time studying the hair passage before they left and were already convinced it was ok. Unless one is walking away from faith altogether, it's a well thought out event, especially if they have uncut hair. Back when I left (20 yrs ago) I was already cutting my hair. My parents never subscribed to the "uncut" interpretation of 1 Cor 11, but just that I had "long" hair, and never as a matter of salvation. So, as a teen, I always cut/trimmed my long hair, even while I was UPC. Back then, in the Canadian Atlantic District, I don't remember "uncut" being such an issue across the board (officially). But, maybe I was just blissfully unaware.
The question I have is, are they cutting because of rebellion to the Standards or the Scriptures. The point being is this hair doctrine is incorrectly taught. They teach this doctrine only from the KJV any other translation will not agree with their teachings
I agree that their hair teaching is incorrect and unprecedented in Christianity. I guess personal motives can be questioned when it comes to why any of us do anything. I've found that male motives rarely get questioned in these circles. It could be because men run the show. Why are certain men striving for leadership/ministry? Why do they wear designer suits and drive luxury vehicles? Why do they make friends with the people they do (running after wealthy/important people)? Why do they tithe/give/volunteer the way they do? What can we deduce about their character from this analysis of everything they do? So many things can be self-serving. but I have not observed instantly questioning motives as a common approach to the male existence in these religious environments. Often, when a woman does anything to her appearance... Is she after someone else's husband? Is she an instant whore now that she wears tinted lipgloss or an heirloom locket? Is she too vain? Trying to be noticed? Is she trying to be like "the world"? Is she being rebellious...? It often feels like female faith, character, and integrity are quickly questioned. The seemed animosity toward women is so unfortunate. When it comes to motives, the only ones I will ever really know are my own, and that's enough to keep me busy. I do think many women who change their appearance are simply tired of feeling older/odd and want to enjoy finding their personal style. We all want to look our best. Normal. It doesn't make sense to do something restrictive that's not required in scripture. Some women are tired of being used as the visual "holiness billboard" of their church (based solely on the preferences of their pastor) without any consideration as to the quality of life cost of those restrictions. The head of thick, long, uncut hair is a prime example. The care, weight, and potential health issues (headache and back/neck/scalp) are not considered. It lacks compassion. Female restrictions are common in many extreme fringes of religion (not just Christianity). Many UPC parents require things of their teens (especially daughters) that they themselves never had to deal with in middle and high school. I went to public school as a UPC teen. My parents did not. Neither of them was a believer until adulthood. I know they didn't understand what it was like for me. I had no problem living for God and had personal and sincere faith. I was all out for Jesus! But, when it came to the UPC look, I hated it. I wanted to dress normally in an appropriate and modest way. I am thankful they allowed me to trim my hair. But, a slight leniency with my clothing ended up making me a target and got me spiritually abused by my pastor...so this is a bigger problem. Not every girl weathers those storms with their faith intact.
@@mikeeagan1307 Are the Other Translations Really Correct???
I did and yes I wanted to since I was a little girl. I didn’t believe any of the standards were anything but man-made rules.
Hi Deanna Jo This young lady's story is really amazing. She has a lot of wisdom at a young age. Bless her heart and keep going strong. My daughter is 23 and still upc because of her mom. They both look so sad. But moving on, growing up upc in the 70s-90s for us guys, we were not allowed to wear shorts, wear short sleeve shirts, no organized sports, no theaters etc... I have friends and family members still in upc and seeing them in public, the guys are in shorts, tshirts. Now days licensed ministers are attending pro sport games, going on cruises etc.... a lot of Pentecostal Apostolic churches are so relaxed on what was a major no go when we were young. I myself have a clearer and such a strong relationship with Jesus now more than I ever did attending a Pentecostal Church. Great video Deanna Jo! Blessings
Thank you! Aubrynn is a very wise young woman. I'm so proud of her for her courage in sharing and her insight.
❤
Dear Aubry, I married my husband, who was raised in UPCI. I was only 18 years old when I was led into that church. I can totally relate. I had four sons. I would pray that I wouldn't have a baby girl. I wanted a girl, but I didn't want her to have to live through that!'😢 I had four sons and was relieved. That was so sad. My hair also reached the floor and thick. I suffered a lot. I smiled throughout this video. I knew exactly how you felt! My husband and I moved away in our 30s, for work and God slowly showed us to be free from that bondage. We love God and serve Him after learning so much was unnecessary. May God bless you and your family!❤ And...thanks so much Deanna Jo!❤
Isn't it awful that the UPC made this thinking so common...not wanting to raise girls in the movement? It is sad.
This makes me so sad. I’m so sorry
Hey this is Jeff, the guy in the interview. I look at the comments every so often here. I attend a wonderful church now and I have met some of the strongest, emotionally and mentally healthy Christians outside of the UPC. I have met and spoken with several people who have left the UPC and have blossomed and grown in their faith in ways that they never did in that denomination. God hasn't cursed their life, and God hasn't smote them with wrath. I still experience trials and tests of my faith. I still experience moments of despair and I still experience the joy of knowing Jesus. God is not my enemy and I am not His enemy. I stand redeemed by the blood of the lamb. Every step I have made regarding my faith has been carefully and prayerfully taken over the past six years. My faith is a serious and personal matter to me and I am not the kind of man that makes serious moves on a whim. I believe in being Spirit filled. There are only three times in the book of Acts where it's recorded that people had the "speaking in tongues" experience and every time it was actual human languages. Acts 2 is descriptive of the initial outpouring of the Spirit. It's not prescriptive. Up until the early 20th century, there were no Pentecostals. There is only ONE time in the New Testament where someone asked the question "What must I do to be saved?" You probably know the passage and the answer that the apostle gave. I digress. I am deeply grateful God reached me in the darkest place of despair and depression back in 2018. I have been able to share the Gospel and I have even been able to lead a couple of people to Jesus since then. The UPC experience was a part of my past, but it is not a part of my future. My hope is that if you watch this, you will find the peace and mercy of God in Jesus Christ and the finished work of the cross. If God can reach and heal me, he can reach and heal anybody.
I personally find that DJ, is only a anti Oneness person with hate and a axe to grind. She thinks that she is doing God's work attacking UPIC, ONENESS ass a whole, when in fact she forgets to remove the beam out of the eye of her church (if she attends). Sin is always present and why Paul says we must die daily to sin, repent and endure. Men have a problem that they are visually simulated, it is something in many men and Spiritual men can fall prey to it as well as the outright sinner. I also know some of these court cases that have come up of false attacks on men of God, but I don't go around seeking these stories as this woman who isn't serving God. Im all for prosecuting people who commit these sorts of sins, but the handful of these cases over many years is not even remotely a widespread problem amongst Oneness. But to hear or see this site, DJ thinks it's near every Oneness and they are all in on it. I don't know enough of you and I do know of similar one's who backslid or couldn't hold standards or wouldnt pay tithes or had a axe to grind. God will deal with you and if you heart is right, I don't think so.
It's funny that you think I'm the hateful one from watching this video calling CGC to repentance for decades of covering up the sexual abuse of young women and minors in their church at the hands of their adult male saints. It tells me everything I need to know about you, and that's before getting into your sin-leveling and excusing men for sexual abuse because they are "visual." For the record, the amount of lying, sneaking, and grooming that goes into a grown man abusing a minor is not "falling:" It is strategic, patient, and predatory. Any leader who covers up sexual abuse in ANY church is reprehensible. They should step down! They are unfit and unsafe to lead!!! As far as false reporting goes (the defense all predator sympathizers make), all crimes have false reports. The stats for false reporting of sexual abuse is 2%-10%. False reporting is horrible, we agree on that. This is why we have a legal system in place. But it doesn't negate the 90%-98% of cases of legitimate abuse. It also doesn't factor in the 63% of sexual assaults that are never reported to police. Only 12% of child sexual abuse is reported. That's sobering. Sit with that for a few minutes. This is a problem! You need to educate yourself before coming into my comments section and looking so foolish. Obviously, it's not "near every Oneness" committing sexual assault/abuse or even covering it up. This is a widespread problem everywhere. The Oneness church is no exception. I care about and want to see Oneness women and children safe. There are many within the movement who agree with me, and some are taking steps to hold abusers accountable. God will deal with me, as he will everyone...including abusers and those who cover for them. Do you realize how many abuse survivors walk away from faith because of how they were treated by their church/pastor when it came out? It's heartbreaking. Jesus had something to say about that. Matt 18:6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. www.nsvrc.org/sites/default/files/2012-03/Publications_NSVRC_Overview_False-Reporting.pdf www.nsvrc.org/sites/default/files/publications_nsvrc_factsheet_media-packet_statistics-about-sexual-violence_0.pdf rainn.org/statistics/perpetrators-sexual-violence
