Thanks for this info. I have moved here and am about two weeks in. I have felt incredibly concerned about things that have been shared with me by women who are here and by the behavior of the men that I have interacted with and have been considering totally changing my plan to live here which is disheartening. I have felt unsafe at the intense approach that men are taking and the pushing and overwhelming way they are either A. assuming I am a prostitute, B. When they find out I am not a prostitute then wanting to pay for sex anyway (this must be normal behavior here) or C. just outright being incredibly pushy and making me feel totally unsafe here and devalued if I don't immediately respond to them the way they want me to. I get the feeling they are used to getting whatever they want whenever they want it and am feeling very discouraged about continuing to complete the visa process and the apartment search process and my entire transition here. I am grateful to be listening to some that does feel like a respectful person to women. I really don't know what to think but these early experiences are deeply concerning for a highly educated American who is interested in intelligent life, innovative and creative people and I don't know what I was thinking..I knew there was a certain element here but I had hoped I was going to be in a hub of creative, intelligent, innovative people where men are respectful to women...clearly my extensive research was incorrect based on early experience and I am hoping it improves rapidly.

Hey Jay- Thanks so much for your videos. I am focused on making the move from NorCal to Dubai as well and your videos are helping me to feel more courageous to do it. There are so many videos hyping Dubai and then some saying "it's over" and all of this other stuff and I've been working through the fears of whether it's right for me or not. I am aligned with so many things about Dubai and am very ambitious and want to be in a multicultural environment that is growing and forward thinking and focused on the future as I can see the writing on the wall in The U.S. I am grateful for your perspective and your warmth and welcoming others like me to Dubai. I have lived in NY before and loved it so Im definitely a city person, and I am just excited about so many things about living there that I have been learning. I think some of the videos that are trying to scare people away from making the move have gotten into my head a little bit and make me wonder if Im making the right move, however just seeing another NorCal person that is living in Dubai and loving it is making me feel more at ease with this decision. I really need a change of my reality and have just sold a home and dont really have the time to head over to Dubai and check it out first before needing to make a move somewhere...so I am really trusting all the beautiful videos of what the city is like and what it stands for and is focused on for the future and yet there is some part of me that is thinking Im going to get there and there is going to be something I didnt consider well enough and feel like I made the wrong decision..Your support on this videos and encouragement in really helping me take the leap...I've always wanted to live overseas and I can also feel this feeling of intimidation about it as I am preparing to make it happen...I almost decided to move to San Diego because there are so many communities inside of these high rise buildings and they are these built in friend groups that I feel like I really want...but CA is really not what it used to be and I want to be in an ambitious city so Dubai feels like the place. I just was wondering if the high rises are all empty like so many of the vides are saying and whether in your own high rise buildings one is likely to find friends and a feeling of community as well. Thanks for any input you may have.

Downtown was thriving in 2019 but then the pandemic hit. We had to do the lockdowns, there was no choice. It hasn't fully recovered, but it will come back. San Jose in general is a great place to live, though. I make far less than the median income -- the median is 125k -- so I share a one bedroom apartment in one of the suburbs of San Jose, where I grew up. I shared an apartment in downtown San Jose for two years, it was great. 🙂 UAE isn't a free country though, man. Why would you want to move to a dictatorship? 😲Freedom House gives the USA 83/100, Canada gets 97/100, but UAE only has 18/100. I'll stay in the USA! 🙂and I love San Jose. I hope to move back to downtown soon. 🙂 Best way to go to San Francisco is Caltrain, the stop is right in dowtown, and the "baby bullet" gets you to San Francisco in an hour. Or you can use BART, we have a BART station now, it's in East San Jose.

I believe San Jose get less recognition because a lot of ppl from the bay area consider it the suburbs. I'm a native San Franciscan, but my parents bought a home & moved to Santa Clara. So, I went to middle school & graduated from High School in Santa Clara. And let me tell you, I could not wait to get out of the suburbs & go back to SF.
