Hey guy's I'm Ian and this is my channel dedicated to creating photography content based around art. My creative portraiture and elaborate set building images come to you in the way of storytelling. Learning new skills not just with cameras but learning about problem solving with materialsthat can help tell a story. Why not take a look into the Fine Art work and the way I go about creating it with interesting people. Photographers and artists will get a look into what it takes to achieve digital images that are thought provoking and powerful. I also use my camera to capture humour and along the way, i am attempting to bring you happiness. I'm not polished in producing video content but getting better. Digital photography can be art and you do not need to be an expert at photoshop to produce great images.
Wonderful Walks & Hiking in Wales.
#wales #montblanc #walking
Walking and hiking in Wales to get fit starts here. Sit back and enjoy spectacular views and it doesn't have to be North Wales. South Wales has some of the best hills and mountains to ramble around and this little gem is a nice starter. Skirrid Fawr or The Skirrid as we call it sits just North of the town of Abergavenny. I will show you the route and elevation that starts with a pull straight up but fear not it doesn't last. Once on top you get the pleasure of traversing a ridge that gives truly wonderful views. This is part of my training for My Blanc summit attempt in September and this is to become a better videographer and vlogger. Follow along to enjoy the fact that I have no gear and no knowledge of what I require to do this so it should be fun.
I am fundraising for rescue dogs so why not show some love.

#mountains #rescue #montblanc What should have been a standard walk in an area very familiar to me turned into a drama. I experienced sun, hail, sleat, rain and wind along with witnessing someone take a fall and sustain injuries where mountain rescue attended. All this I tried to capture with a samsung S22 and a wired microphone directly connected with about 30ft of cable and it was a Nightmare...

Here we will show you how we used 2 beauty dishes and a makeshift flag to get this look. You will see that there is minimal editing and we have captured great character within the RAW file. Hello Ian, its an odd thing to 'see' you here on TH-cam. This is a great video and looks like it was a wonderful journey ❤
Oh blinking heck, hello 👋 I hope you're well. You're like the scarlet pimpernel.
@@IanMunroArt 😂😍 I am honoured to have earned such a name.
can't find the tuts
I am definitely going to try that, excellent result.
Really useful video Ian, well done.
glad to see gandalf found more work after the lord of the rings was done.
Indeed, he's not retired yet. 🤪
this was awesome, would love to have seen how you went about this edit cause it looks epic! Cheers Ian!
Thanks a lot, you know I get asked this but I'm afraid to show my editing ( lack of skill ) because overall I think people will criticise so I tend to edit based on my ability in photoshop and how I feel.
@@IanMunroArt that is absolutely fine mate, you offer enough value as it is regardless whether you do editing vids or not. Keep making beautiful pictures, appreciate all the wonderful content!
@minimcune I really appreciate your kind words, it encourages me to continue 🙏🏻🫡
Really useful Ian
Cheers mate I hope you are well 👍
Nice image, and well explained how to sort out the problem.
Hi Paul, thanks for dropping by it's appreciated 🙏🏻
Unbelievable! Kind of beats my Chinese scenes. But my 3 Chinese set ups took 2 months of searching for the perfect props including the model getting her hair done with pearls and hair extensions in the Hanfu style from a Chinese hairdresser. And the model was Chinese as well. It was the small tea set that almost drove me nuts to find. It had to be Asian. I found it 2 days before the shoot at a non profit second hand store. It cost $15 and was from Vietnam. I think the real fun is searching for all the props and even more fun than the shoot itself.
Perfectly explained 👌 you're right it's about the journey that gets you to this point. Great stuff thanks 😊
I'm laughing at these. Love all of them. I've set up scenes and my last one was for an Irish laborer sitting on a steamer trunk with a pile of old suitcases and a wicker lunch basket waiting for a train in the train station. I used AI to get rid of the model's modern shoes and had it create workman shoes instead. Took 3 tries but the final result was perfect.
I love your way of thinking and using whatever you need to tell the story 🙏🏻👌
Great video Ian. Loved how you did this portrait. Mike was an excellent model!
Thanks a lot for taking time to comment. It's the interaction that keeps me trying, thank you 😊
Getting back into photography after a bit of a break. Your videos are super inspiring, love seeing all the BTS and thought processes.
Hi mate 👍 I bet ya raring to go. Its the same for me when I've had a break. Sometimes you can try too hard and it all gets too much. When you've had that break it's all fresh and exciting. I'm back in the studio tomorrow doing some simple portrait stuff! All the best Gareth 👍
Enjoyed that Ian from sunny Hereford. It's a little big mountain but the views are even bigger. For a simple one to ascend you get a lot out of it. Clear on your day. On a couple of occasions I've walked back via the base of the Westerly slope through the land slip. You reappear at the gate near the mossy wall. Well, good going. Mark
Hi Mark, yeah I saw your reply to Alan and I will have to try that route. Thanks mate 👍
@@IanMunroArt Alright Ian-you'll enjoy that route bro - it's well interesting. A pleasure.
Well done Ian, so do you walk everything twice to get the walking footage or do you do it with a mate?
Hi mate 👍 in short, both. If alone I plant camera and look like an idiot doing things twice but if I have company it's that bit easier 🤣
Nice one mate. Looking forward to seeing the Osmo Pocket 3 footage 👍🏻
You and me both! 👊 cheers mate
Cheers mate. How - and where can I support this? You and the dogs both

Cheers Mate I hope you're well.
There you go mate - donation pated 👍🏼
@phphoto bloody hell mate, that's so appreciated 👏 you're a gentleman and I will endeavour to get to the summit. 😊
Well done Ian, but I do think you’re going to need multiple pairs of footwear. You don’t want webbed feet 😂
Hey Chris 👋 absolutely right. I've put a bit of money behind so look out for the change in gear coming soon. 👌😊
Top job! Really enjoying these videos. That walk looked much more enjoyable than the previous one, how were the knees after?
Hey bud, yeah I forget my age and knee conditions and typically, like us men we go steaming in. I'll build up a bit more sensible from now 😊👌
Nice one Ian keep it up
Thanks bud, I'll get better I'm sure 😂
Lol.. it's been ages since I have been up on Ysgyryd Fawr.. lovely little hill. The nice way to make it a circular is after the Trig Point start to walk back and after 100 yards ther is a path on the left. It will lead your around the north of the hill and back through the "gap" and a lower route through the woods.. lovely when the bluebells are out. Nice watch buddy.. keep it going. atb Al PS Just back from a little bimble with Bob.. nothing too strenuous as we are old men these days.
Oh nice one, I don't know that route mate. I did a nice table mountain on Sunday and looking for some walks with good ascents.
Do you mean through the landslip Allan? I like that route back. Mark
@@WyeExplorer yes mark
@@thevalleywalker Ah, thought so Alan. Yeah it good.
Great video, thanks.
Thanks mate 👍
Breathing out your ass ! - I know just how you felt mate. planning to take the same route here in 2024, but with photo equipment in the backpack as well.
Nice one mate, I hope the conditions are good for you. Its just getting back in the groove with it all. I've done some other walks since and I've felt a bit better 🤣
Very good indeed. Great results
Cheers Ken! 🍻
Beautiful ... Thanks for sharing your journey!
Hey 👋 thanks for taking time out to comment 😊
Great video! Thanks for making it and for sharing. I'll try this straight away. Like you, I prefer the the second setup with the gridded lights. Gez looks like he can't wait to grab the war hammer and repel the Viking invaders. Cheers!
Ha! Thanks so much for dropping by and commenting. You're right, Gez really is that type of guy too 🤣
walking through my fave woodland :)
It's pretty cool innit. I was telling Gez that this place is one of your favourite places
We were parked in the same car park buddy. This used to be my route of choice when friends asked me to take them up Pen y Fan many years ago... I just love the fact once yo are up on the ridge you see the whole route ion front of you - when visibilty ios good of course...lol. That climb onto the ridge is now pathed, as you probably went up years ago also it never 8sed to be and it was a slippery scurry back then near the top. I remember me you & Gaz going to the Neuadd one day and then stopping off at Dol y Gaer - we saw a large raptor in the trees if I rememeber rightly? Listening to you saying you were struggling I am guessing you probably was route marchin it - when you was on Jacobs Ladder I probably would have still been climbing the 1st ridge..lol. I watched the mr truck going up the roman road so might have seen you also. I'll be interested to know what you have decided on the audio side - it's always a trail n error with me trying to find good audio - over the years I have tried numerous things with limited success. One thing I never think about is making sure I am sheltering the mic from the wind - something that will make your audio much better even with stupid lav mics. I look forward to the next one... as I know there is only one way for you to go and that is up ;) atb Al
Cheers Al just ordered, dji mic 2. It can go direct Bluetooth to phone £90 should arrive on the weekend. Just off to sugar loaf.... with no mic lol.
@@IanMunroArt that's a bargain mate - where did you order it from? Good luck with the walk.
@thevalleywalker from DJI website, it's worth a try. I'm getting osmo picket 3 bundle but it's pre order so I'll try this.
STAMP on that microphone - it'll make you feel better! Will be following your journey!
Hi Kirsty, I really have stamped on it. Thanks for dropping by and following along. 🙏🏻
What a view, look forward to seeing it again on a totally blue sky dry day :-)
🤔 yeah it was sunny everywhere else but as usual the grey clouds follow the clown 🤣
Well done Ian thanks for showing us the tricky and difficult side of what you went through rather than a polished it's great and had a lovely walk that some do, I admire what your doing and what your aiming for keep up the great work.
Hey bud hope you're well. Thanks too for tuning in the other night I appreciate you 🙏🏻
Great video. Great journeys begin with one step!!!
Indeed, thanks Marty. 😊
You got this dude! There are going to be shitty days and there will be fantastic days, but thank you for sharing it all with us. Remember, this is still early in your mountain training and it will get easier. I've mentioned Chase Mountains as a good TH-cam channel for some training resourses, but I will add in Uphill Athlete and specifically their book "Training for the Uphill Uphill Athlete" as I have used it extensively with my trail running and it has been a huge help. Regarding a portable camera and mic set up, have a look at the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo. The camera is small, lightweight, amazing quality, comes with a wireless mic. It's pricey but is an all in one solution and takes much of the thinking and worry out of the equation. Good luck and looking forward to the next video 🙂
Get that man a Snickers! Good effort buddy, great to be able to follow along on the journey. I know you will absolutely smash Mont Blanc. Looking forward to the next episode. Proud of you mate 👊👊👊
Cheers bud, we keep rolling. 👍

Thanks mate 👍
Hi just found your channel your work is really good and i like your style will be following. best regards Mike (Newport)
Hey Mike, 👋 hope you're well. Ahhh Newport, not far from me in Ebbw Vale. Cheers mate 👍
It's perhaps difficult to tell with TH-cam compression, and of course each photographer has their own style that is their own. But it looks to me like his cheek and forehead are a little blown out whilst his hands, which you have posed, are a little dark. So it's not a technique that would work for me, but I've never seen someone stack modifiers like this so it's always good to see something new.
Cheers Jeff, I darken hands somewhat not to detract from face. It's most definitely not blown out in any areas and I agree that it must be compression. Thanks for the comment 👍
Gorgeous lighting!
Thanks so much!
Hi Mr. Munro, I hope you're doing well. I really enjoy your educational videos. You have a great way of teaching. Thank you. Kind Regards, BRN New Jersey, USA
Hey Bern, 👋 thanks for dropping by. I hope you're doing well. I appreciate your kind comment and I continue to learn through mistakes and try and be better, it's part of the journey right? Im over the moon that you find some of my stuff interesting. 🙏🏻

Whoops, I will sort it out.
This is the type of tutorial I have been looking for!

Excellent, good luck mate! I’m sure it will be an interesting adventure!
Thanks I hope so.
Very informative. Really admire your creativity.
Cheers Marty! 🍻
Great idea will definitely try this, Just need to save for a beauty dish.
The beauty dish is brilliant and you can just dream up different uses. I think its underrated.
Good luck I will enjoy following your journey. Fantastic charity.
Thank you so much for dropping by. It's a challenge for sure but I'm so soft when it comes to animals so why not. 😊
Love watching you shooting and problem solving. I’ve just binged watched you videos and learnt so much Thank you
Hey Geraldine 👋 thanks so much for taking time to comment. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
You are super talented!! You must have massive storage space
Hi Geraldine, yes I have a unit on an industrial estate. The rent is reasonable too 😊 thank you for your kind comment. I would say I'm not talented really but just trying things. Most of the time they don't work 🤣🤣🤣
Love your imagination for your characters, great fun
It's the best part. I think we are all kids at heart and having an imagination at 50 is cool 😊😊😊
Love the Journey Man character. Fantastic photos
It was a character I could do without paying for a model hahaha. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
