Small Clone Vibrato Mod
What up gansters! I'm back with a quick mod video so you don't need to buy no stinky expensive diamond vibrato!
NOTE: If you just remove one leg of the top resistor and let it just hang free, you'll have a permanent vibrato with no switch required!!!

Very Nice! - Big drums is what got me into audio engineering, and music production, as a hobby, back in the mid-80s. I loved all those heavily processed *Duke Bootee* drums on his "Beauty and the Beat" productions, and then I got into Meat Beat Manifesto's drum sound aka, Jack Dangers. I have, quite happily, limited myself over the years to just *dbx* and *Drawmer.* - my current favourite drum bus setup is into a cheap old 166A, used on Jack's Subliminal Sandwich album, into a Drawmer DL251, which adds back generous amounts of meat and weight to the signal, as I personally find the dbx units tend to thin the overall sound a little. I'm essentially using the 166A as a Transient Designer, and the Drawmer as a smoothing device, - maybe not to everyone's taste, but it definitely gets me "That" drum sound. - Current compressor collection - dbx 118 x2 - poor mans 160vu (used on some early Meat Beat drum production, - such as Radio Babylon, etc). - dbx 166A x2 - dbx 1066 x2 (again, with some Drawmer meat added afterwards, - the 1066 also make solid transient designers, - I'd never sell them, - but if they die, they won't be replaced). - dbx 160A (cleaner than the 166A, but I actually prefer the subtle dulling the 166A offers, - for stereo drum buss). - Drawmer DL221 - 241 - 251 - 441 - 1978 - It ain't always what you use, but it's always the way you use it. - As always, I ain't no professional, just another idiot with enough money to spend on toys that feed my autistic need for sonic manipulation. god bless

I’ve been patiently waiting for you to do a video on these! I just recently bought one cheap untested and it seems to function well except for channel 2 being finicky - seems the audio kinda flits between very low level/unaffected and loud/compressed how it should be. the mic/line switch seems to be the issue. it has to be in a very specific spot to catch the signal. Also, I’ve been interested in the link jack on the back and from reading the manual and looking at other old shure mixers, they also have the ability to link. From my understanding, I could get a cheap Shure M67 mixer and link it to the SE30 for extra inputs into the gated compressor. Do you have any experience with that?

  • @jamespatient7438

Hey man, thanks so much for this - I’m getting 2 mended at the minute (have been trying for the past 2 years and have finally found someone who knows what they’re doing)! Would you recommend running audio straight into them, or in parallel after recording? And is it possible to record the parallel AND the dry signals at the same time, using Logic? Cheers dude ✌🏼
