UppaBaby Vista V2 Brake Repair
Due to overwhelming (global!) demand here is a Do-It-Yourself UppaBaby Vista Brake Repair shown with an UppaBaby Vista V2 using the Stroller Dr. Brake Repair Kit. This repair is suitable for strollers where the brake will not engage when the brake pedal is pressed. Easy step-by-step instructions for taking apart the brake and replacing the failed torsion spring using the low-cost kit. The kit is available for purchase from strollerdr.com/diy-shop/ols/products/uppababy-vista-2015-brake-repair-kit. This is the most common way that the UppaBaby Vista brake fails but please watch the video and inspect your stroller prior to purchase to ensure it is the right kit for you.
The torsion spring in the video was not broken. As it was a clients stroller, not my own, I replaced the faulty spring and generously lubricated the brake mechanism with white lithium grease spray (not shown), before returning it to the client. You may want to try reinstalling the failed spring and lubricating the brake mechanism to see if that will fix your problem. If that fails my kit will provide the solution. Order yours today, we ship worldwide.

Super helpful kit and how to video! Fixed the issue with my stroller 🙏
Great to hear!
The Vista v2 has three screws instead of two, but this guide and the solution work perfectly. Thank you, this makes a world of difference 👍
Amazing to hear about your successful repair! Yes, the V2 is slightly different, I have a video on it too but glad you could do the repair with this video as well!
Hi Kim! I got your kit and just finished the repair and it now works great, BUT in all my fixing the large spring (not the torque spring) popped out of my Vista (2021). It took me a long time to figure out that the spring on my model goes on the WHEEL side of the mechanism and doest have a home on the inside of the BRAKE side. Just in case someone else has the same problem it’s a little different than the model show in the video. Thank you!!
Glad you worked it out! I will post something on this when I get a chance.
Get this! Don’t try to find alternatives because this works. It’s super easy to do if you follow what she’s telling you. You saved the stroller!
Amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!
Question for you. Would this repair work if the right rear wheel locks when the brake is on but the left rear wheel does not lock when the brake is on? Or is that related to a different issue?
This kit will not help with that. It sounds as though the brake pin on the right hand side may be stuck. Clean it out and make sure there is no dirt, and then use some lubricant spray (not WD-40) or oil and hopefully it will work. In rare occasions the brake pin is broken... in which case your best bet is to go to a repair shop near you. Best of luck!
a biiiig THANK YOU!!! I just fixed my UppaBaby Vista 2017 using your survival kit-it worked perfectly!
Amazing! Thanks for letting us know!
Good video and it's a fix but it would have been even better to see you apply the grease it comes with
Yes! I need to add that to the video!
Thank you so much. Second time I've had to go through this video as the brake has failed a second time. I was going to buy the spring and have it shipped to the UK but the spring still hasn't broken so I've just cleaned up and added grease. Worked last time so let's see. Any recommendations for the type of grease? I've used white lithium grease but it says it for metal parts normally. What's best for this plastic?
So glad the video helped! I use white lithium grease spray or a silicone grease. The parts you need to zone in on are where the brake pin meets the white plastic from the brake cable, and the metal brake cable itself. There are thousands of opinions on this but from my research for a combination of plastic and metal the white lithium grease or a silicone grease work best!
Thank you!! Very easy to do with your video and parts ❤
So glad we could help!!
Hi stroller Dr. I tried this repair but without the spring upgrade. When I put it back together I can either engage the brake or not engage it, and the peddle for the break itself always comes undone in this process, your video doesn't show the other side of the mechanism (the part with the green/red indicator that has the pin) I am not sure if I'm missing a part or is the peddle spring coming undone the main issue?
When you press the brake pedal it requires a ton of force to push the brake pin out. (Try just using your thumbs to push it out without the brake pedal....I can not make it go out at all!). So when you are reassembling the brake and want to test it, you need to reattach the pedal with the 3 screws, otherwise the force as you push the brake pedal pushes the pedal out/off and not the brake pin. Make sure that the white flapper is in the correct position (when you rotate the big white gear anti-clockwise you hear a click). Adding lubricant to the white plastic parts and the cable is strongly recommended at this point (I now include lubricant in the kit). Tighten the 3 screws to hold on the brake pedal. If it is too tight the brake pedal will not spring back into position. If it is too loose the brake pedal will be pushed out and the white flapper can move under the white gear and out of position. Causing the brake to stop working again. Hope this helps!
@@StrollerDr thanks so much, would I be able to get a picture of the front of the mechanism which has the brake pin? I have the paddle as instructed in the video fixed, everything lubed up. The paddle clicks as you say, but the issue I have is with the white inner parts (Red Green Indicator and the part with the brake cable) I know I have all the paddle correct it's just the flipside of the paddle where the other side of that gear connects on. Should there be a spring on the brake pin/red green indicator? Everything moves and all rust is cleaned.
I will try and post a photo of the other side… don’t think I can put in comments, but I will try and add some stills to the end of the video.
@@StrollerDr that would be so helpful, thank you!
@@StrollerDr I've wathced the video again and it looks like my brake pin doesn't pop out as much as yours, I wonder why that might be
Can I buy a part from you that hold the melt bar in place I don't really know how to describe it
Email me at strollerdr@gmail.com with a picture of the broken part. I may have the part you need. Some brake repairs are hard to do at home but if you are in Toronto we can arrange an appointment.
Is there a UK supplier for this tiny spring!?
Not yet, I would love an EU and/or UK retail partner. All suggestions welcome… except Amazon.
Vielen Dank 😊
Gern geschehen!
The link to the part doesn't seem to work, can you post it in the comments please?
This should work: strollerdr.com/diy-shop/ols/products/uppababy-vista-2015-brake-repair-kit let me know if you have any trouble. you can email me at strollerdr@gmail.com
Thank you so much! Fantastic video and I appreciate you going over the reasons why your spring is superior. I can’t imagine having bought another stroller because of a tiny spring. Maybe it’s made this way on purpose 🤷🏽♂️
So glad we could help!
Wow we just fixed our stroller using this kit! I saw a small piece of metal broken off and couldn’t believe that was the cause, then I found this video. Saved us hundreds on replacing the stroller. Thanks! Clear instructions too
Awesome! So glad we could help!
It worked! I got the spring from you and just finished the repair. The repair kept not working and I realized that I had installed the spring on the wrong side of the flapper. Once I flipped it around, it worked perfectly!
Amazing! Congratulations on your successful repair!
Hi! So we don’t seem to have a plastic piece that the spring goes into on our vista 2 so we have no idea where to put that spring.. did we have to buy that piece???
Hi Christina, no you didn't have to buy that piece! Take a very careful look around the space where you disassembled your brake, hopefully you find it. If not, no worries, I have quite a few so drop me an email at strollerdr@gmail.com and I can send you one. Keep me posted!
Thanks for the follow-up video! I already got the part, but after opening up the stroller frame, it doesn't look like this is the problem - the flipper goes back and forth just fine. However the break is not engaging at all after assembling. :( any ideas? thanks!
Email me at strollerdr@gmail.com and let’s see if we can troubleshoot this together.
Will this repair work for when the brake will not disengage?
Probably not. Usually if the brake won’t disengage there is dirt or rust preventing the brake pin from moving in and out. You can use this video to take the brake apart, clean and lubricate the brake pin and put it back together. I would make sure the channel the brake pin moves up and down is very clean before reassembly. Hope that helps!
Ok good to know. The pin can still be depressed but it won’t retract.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Worked perfectly! Big $$$$ saver
Amazing news! Thanks for sharing!
Can you do a video on how to fix an uppababy G-Link double stroller brake? The back right brake is not releasing all the way and back right wheels rattle
I will try and do a video if I get a G-Link in my workshop. Generally it is a good idea to follow these three steps: 1) clean all dirt from the problem area 2) use WD-40 to remove rust from the area 3) use lubricant such as lithium grease or lithium grease spray to lubricate the problem area. WD-40 is great at removing rust and dirt but runs right off a surface. Applying a grease (or grease spray for hard to reach areas) which sticks to the surface both lubricated the moving parts and protects from water, dirt and rust formation. Not sure it will solve your problem, but it is a good place to start.
WD40 worked! Thanks!
Is the spring something I can get on McMaster? Any chance you’d be open to sharing the part name?
No it is not a standard part, I make them on a purpose-made jig.
Gasp! So cool! Just ordered 🥰
Our stroller's left rear wheel's brake pin does not pop out as much as the right one and that's why the break doesn’t engage and the left wheel doesn’t lock. Do you think I should follow this video to fix it or is it something else? I have switched the left and right wheels, cleaned and lubed it with WD40 but it didn’t work. Thank you 🙂
This kit will not help with that problem. It sounds as though it is a problem on the left hand side. Cleaning out the dirt, removing rust with WD-40 and then applying a silicone spray would be the first steps. If that doesn't work you may have to take the left side apart. Sometimes the spring that pushes the pin back in (a different spring from the one in my kit) gets twisted and stops the pin from moving in and out correctly. If you do this take pictures as you go so you can put it all back together again!
Hi Kim, I’m needing the actual spring that retracts the brake pedal. My brake engages but pedal doesn’t retract. I do love in Australia and was hoping I can find one at Bunnings or somewhere like that. Do you have the dimensions for it so I can do my best to find one 🤞🏽
If the brake will engage, but the pedal won't retract, it sounds like the whole mechanism needs a good spray with lubricant. Try and get the spray in all the nooks-and-crannies. I recommend a white lithium spray made by 3-in-1. Do not use WD-40 for this purpose (although great for many other things). If you have taken apart the brake and put it back together, it is possible that you have overtightened the screws that hold the brake pedal on. Try loosening them a little to see if the pedal will rebound. If this does not work you can email me at strollerdr@gmail.com and we can try and troubleshoot together. It depends on your exact model, but I could get you specifications for the springs which push the pedal back to the original position, if they have been lost or damaged somehow. I will post here too, once measured.
If the other brake doesn’t work does this fix the issue ?
This fixes the brake when it doesn’t engage on either side (the brakes are connected by a cable). Replacing the spring by the brake pedal with this kit will allow the brake to engage on both sides. If the brake is only broken on the other side it is probably an issue with rust/dirt interfering with its operation, the cable may have snapped or there is another issue. Hope that helps!
@@StrollerDris there a way to fix this? If so do you have a tutorial?
I don't have a video made for this. Take the rear wheels off, clean out any visible dirt that has accumulated in the brake area. Look for any visible broken pieces of plastic and ensure the brake pin is intact. If the brake pin looks rusty I would recommend putting the stroller on its side and adding some WD40. Leave the stroller on its side so the WD40 runs down the pin. Try putting the brake on and off with the rear wheels removed to see if there is any improvement.
@@StrollerDr I have a similar issue. Originally, the left hand wheel would not lock and the right side would but it was sticky once engaged. I opened up to investigate and compare to your video and now the right side is stuck locked and the left side still doesn't lock. 1 note, when engaging the brake pedal i can see the cable pulling on the left side but it doesn't lock. I've order the repair kit and i'll do that and see how it goes.
To address the issue on the left side I would follow these steps: clean out dirt, remove rust with WD-40, apply silicone spray or 3-in-1 oil. If it still doesn't work carefully remove the screws that hold on the cover. Remove the brake pin, and check the slot it is in for blockages. There is a spring that helps to push it out when the brake is off and sometimes it gets twisted and blocks the pin from moving in and out. If the right side is stuck locked, make sure that you haven't overtightened the screws holding the flapper, or the ones that hold the brake pedal on. Hope that helps!
What kind of spacer is it? I seem to have lost mine when I first disassembled it mnths ago before finding your video! I just bought and received your fix but unfortunately without the spacer i can't tighten the screw properly. Edit: I bought a #10-32 stainless steel nut and it works fine as a replacement so far!
thanks for sharing! I was just on my way to the hardware store to see if there was a generic match!
Fab. Got it delivered to the UK super fast zero drama video was invaluable ace! Although. I'd happily pay a little more and get 2 springs in the pack incase I duffed up the installation or if broke one agen. 👍🙂
So glad to hear the ordering and repair worked so well!
Very helpful…I have ordered. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! You shipped that so fast and it got to the states quick. EASY fix and it’s works on 2012 model no problem
Great to hear!
I’d love a kit where can I buy one?
Great! You can purchase a kit here: strollerdr.com/diy-shop
Do you need two kits in order to replace both brakes? Or does one kit repair both?
One kit will fix the brake so that it engages on both sides!
Another successful repair, thanks to StrollerDr we’ve extended the life of my daughter’s stroller! Very grateful to Kim for highlighting the “broken spring” issue in her video!
Great news! Thanks for sharing!
Worked like a charm
Great to hear!!
Spent easily 3-4 hrs researching different solutions to the broken brake including contacting Upababy to get their replacement options. They wanted to replace the entire frame which was insane given the root cause was a small broken spring. Before purchasing the spare part I took the brake apart (30mins) and figured out how it all went together. I purchased the spring from Stroller Dr. and once it arrived it took about 30mins to complete the repair. Our spring was mounted differently to the video which caused some problems. Our spring was mounted to a seperate u shaped bracket. It took a good 10mins of making it all fit in and screw the spring in place. Definitely not for the inpatient but if you give yourself time this is a very fixable problem and saves you hundreds of dollars in frame replacement costs 🎉
Great work Matthew! There are 3 slightly different UppaBaby Vista brake configurations from 2015 to present. This spring will fit all of them. I have intended to make additional videos to cover all 3 variations but haven’t had a chance yet! Hood for you for figuring it out, and glad we could save you money!
We are in the same boat! I’m purchasing this kit now. UppaBaby’s support solutions are ridiculous $$ and not environmentally friendly. We don’t need to send the entire base back for a spring replacement!
I bought this brake repair kit which Stroller Dr posted from Canada to N.Ireland. I completed the repair in about an hour and the brake is working like a dream. The brake action feels better than before also. Huge cost saving compared to replacing the frame or buying another pram. Thanks for the product + this instructional video. Life saver! Sean.
Amazing Sean! So glad we could help!
Hi I’d like to buy a kit, I’m in the UK
Success! Thank you so much, Kim! The parts arrived quickly, everything i needed was there and your video was FANTASTIC. So grateful! Uppababy wanted $220 USD for a whole new frame, they don't even sell replacement parts. Can't recommend Stroller Dr highly enough! Please keep making videos and fixes!
Fabulous news Clare! So glad we could help!
Hi Stroller Dr, i am having this exact issue with our Uppababy Vista 2015+ stroller. Only issue is i'm based in N.Ireland. Would it be possible to discuss in private message?
Absolutely… you can email me at strollerdr@gmail.com
Thank you Stroller Dr!
Our pleasure!
