Glass Panel in a Pitts! - PANEL UPGRADE EPISODE 1
มุมมอง 1808 หลายเดือนก่อน
I finally take the Pitts offline to begin the panel upgrade. Tough to do but now that we're in the dead of winter this is the best time of year to do it. Bunch of fun stuff to come, fabricating a carbon instrument panel and then wiring the whole thing up with an AV-30 and GRT EMS!

How much did you save by doing your own welding?
Super Cubs are probably my favourite aircraft, almost 60 years ago i towed gliders for my local gliding club with a PA18-150
I've seen were you get first coat of epoxy on right away after welding. Then clean off paint for tabs and other stuff.
Get a fresh engine
show,nice
Another Maryland Experimental builder. Nice!
Does anyone know if the plans for the EEa biplane are still available?
You have an understanding wife to give you the garage lol
Yay! Please add rotary encoders with multiplexers! Please please please!!!! ❤
what plans are you using? ive just started getting into my own project?
or are you just assembling from the VR3 drawings? im working throught original cub drawings and layout atm
@@phillipperkins1548 Used the VR3 assembly drawings for the fuselage and gear and then the northland drawing set for everything else. Google northland super cub plans they are well worth the $60.
@@sailorlee15 thanks thats kind of what I thiught. I have the northland plans already, have for a number of years now. having a lot of trouble getting VR3 to contact me back. tried several times with various other aircraft with no luck. im in Australia
something like this is my favorite type of custom work. I really dig what whar you are doing here
thanks for watching!
Have you sold this biplane already?
yes it sold in October.
Great channel. Could you digress for a couple videos to show your family's Biplane builds??? That would be interesting to see.
yes will do in the spring once they're all out and flying around again. thanks for watching!
Nice work! I'm restoring an old j3!
One thing this thing has is one speed for everything. 90 KTS!!!
yeah its like a cub. but faster, and way more draggy. technical term.
@@sailorlee15 Fun little things. Out of curiosity, was yours pretty sensitive on the stick too? I’m surprised you responded to be honest.
@@wackaircaftmechanic2312 less sensitive than the Pitts but more than any other plane I have flown. I worked hard to make the ailerons more sensitive and they felt pretty good!
@@sailorlee15 Nice! I haven’t flown mine for a while and I’m getting close to flying it. I want to make sure of some of the quirks on these little things before I hop in and go. Thanks for your time! Hope you’re still enjoying it!
Good looking toys! If you’re interested in cleaning up the paint on the Pitts rather than repainting, look up Aviana Aircraft Detailing. Mehrdad lives in my area (Iowa) and is well-known in the aircraft detailing business. AOPA has done some stories on his work and he has a TH-cam channel - AvianaAircraft.
Would be interested in selling Me the Fuselage? I’ve watched all your videos. I’m ready to start a VR3 build. Love the little Pitts.
then what would I build?! Get in touch with the VR3 guys they will hook you up!
@@sailorlee15 Hahah I had to make a shameless try. Nah man, that’s my plan.
Glad to have you back mate.
Looks good. Thanks for the update.
I would have loved to do this BUT I’m to old and poor now (72) maybe still an ultralight in my future though 🤔 I will however be following your progress with interest and wish you lots of luck! Glad you got some good guidence and motivators behind you (you’re gonna need them😉….) Ed
Are you going to get back to the cub project?
how much working space do you think you need for this build? I am thinking about building a shed 12x24 to do a project like this? thanks
I love that your so excited about the work we do at Javron. In my 8 years there I have done everything. I strive as I build all of these parts in your order to impress the person opening the box. This video really made me proud as I watched. You gave us so many nice comments on our work. Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you!
where did you get the plans
Are you still building this plane?
Oh yes.
@@sailorlee15 Glad to hear it! I've been looking into the vr3 kit, but the price Don quoted me is significantly higher now. I'm looking forward to seeing your project continue.
Whats the price now? @@lanemoreland971
Pumped to see this progress. Keep up the good work!
soloed in a pa-11 100hp best cub ever!
You don't need a SuperCub. You have an 85hp J-3! Thats a super cub in my eyes.
It's true!
Lee, it's absolutely gorgeous 😍. My grandfather owned one of these. It's where my love of aviation began when I was just a toddler. Your J3 cub is magnificent. You guys are going to have a wonderful time with it. ❤
My old glider club had two 180 super cubs. I ran the tow cards all the time, flew in them occasionally. So, watching you, I can almost smell the 100ll. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations on the J3 and thanks for the ride along Lee! Can't wait to see you build more on the SuperCub and I always enjoy watching someone else getting the same enjoyment out of flying that I do. How much welding experience did you have before you started welding the fuselage of the SuperCub and do you think a beginner welder could tackle a Javron Kit?
Hi Clint, I had very little. After finish welding the fuselage I now feel like I can make safe welds. Still far from an expert... Luckily with the Javron kit there is zero welding! The fuselage is done when you get it from them. I bought a tubing kit from VR3. Thank for watching!
Just found your channel. Good job! You should consider adding the biggest baggage door you can. I would love to have a bigger on mine..
Hey! I've read your thread over on supercub.org. Awesome build! Big inspiration for this project!
Where are you at man?
i am building the exact same Cartesian cub right now,and it is a good way to build on a more modest budget,i just finish the second series of tack and preparing for jigue release, nice work, will keep fallowing along.
What welder and settings are you using? thanks for posting these vidoes
Keep plugging away! Good to see your back working on it. I've taken a long hiatus from my build but soon I'll be back on it
Looks fun. I’m interested in your truck spring project and how your going to do it. I’ve had tail wheel spring issues.
I was reading the Tony Bingelis book from EAA and got the idea from it. Im just after the spring steel. Thanks for watching!
I have heard using PVC tube capped with hot water works amazing for bending wood
Javron produces beautiful parts good choice.
Bro, I've been waiting keep em coming!
Looking good but still a bummer that you didn't show how it all went together.
In the last episode you built the rudder, you had already built the vertical stab. Well that was a disappointment. why didn't you show assembling the pieces and tacking? being only tacked and then having to move the plane again, wouldn't that throw your alignment off? I mean now your having to measure twice.
properly tacked nothing will move out of alignment. I'll be measuring about 50 times. Thanks for watching.
Would have been neat to see the forming of the ribs and how you put the horn on. What is the wire for at the top of the rudder? A little more explanation please. keep up the good work. moving onto your next video.
Can’t wait to see it all done bro been watching on this build since it first started and love just checking in ever now and then and seeing your still inspired and doing the build. Hands down my favourite aircraft since the movie Alaska and can’t wait for you to be able to get your girl up in the air and enjoy all those hard hours and headaches mate. Excited to see it finished
thanks for watching Gabriel!
Hi Lee I am getting ready to attempt a build I think that I will use VC3 tubing kit What drawings did or are you using I have the Northland drawings is there anything else available thanks
I used the northland drawings, The V3R drawings and this site supercubproject.com/
@@sailorlee15 Thanks Lee
Very nice weld reinforcement on your clusters, at 6:35. I'm a long-time OA welder on 4130, and I see a lot of TIG guys using minimal filler rod, so their beads are all narrow and concave. Ugh, I say to that.
thanks! They're not super pretty but they are strong!
fantastic! Great update
You bought your kit from VR3? I am currently assembling a kit now, would love to hear from you.
Yes. It was awesome! So accurate!
Enjoying following your progress.
