SIONYX Nightwave Install and Performance
Have you thought about adding a Sionyx Nightwave camara to your boat, but wondered if it's work the costs? How well does it actually work in the dark? Is it really useful compared to a more expensive FLIR camera?
This video shows how a Nightwave camera operates on a Back Cove 37 in a range of operating conditions so you can see and decide for yourself. Plus, I show a few installation notes for a Back Cove 37.
I was in no way compensated by anyone for this video or the review.

    Brad, I enjoy your videos. I have a BC 37 as well. We are headed out for the long July 4 weekend. I noticed you "roof rack". Are you pleased with its' hold down ability? What type is it and where did you get it?

    • @BradArringtonBoating
      @BradArringtonBoating หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Amy, it's a Sea Sucker roof rack that uses industrial suction cups. Specifically, it's the Monkey Bar Surf package that includes the bars, bar pads, and straps. I like how it works with out any drilling. But I am having some trouble with the cups loosing suction over a week to ten days. I did prep the roof with a polish and polymer sealer. But my roof gelcoat was heavily oxidized and may need some additional prep.

    Wow. Your videos are getting great. I hate to say this, but I hope more breaks on your boat so I have your videos as a library for when they break on our 37. All the best. Come to think about it, we should all send your videos when we figure things out so they are in one place. The several puzzles I am going to need to address in the future is the windows (slides and bedding) and getting to the undersides of the toe rail to gain access to the bolts for the stanchions and cleats.

    Hi Brad: What year is your Back Cove 37? Mine is a 2014 and Back Cove tells me that I have to have both 30 Amp power cords plugged in for the AC meter to work. That's obviously not the case on your boat.

    • @BradArringtonBoating
      @BradArringtonBoating 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine is a 2019. Yes, each side of the AC power is independent. I can plug in either shore power cord and the associated power meter will display. I have a toggle switch to display the different meters.

    Hi Brad - just stumbled on your channel and have subscribed. We’re in the process of hunting for our next boat (currently have a Tiara Sovran 3600) and - based on what we’ve seen in videos and other online info - we think the BC 37 may just be the ideal boat for us (although there are none anywhere near us on Lake Michigan that we know of, so we’ve never actually seen one). There are a couple for sale elsewhere that will require significant travel to see them in person (not to mention shipping costs to get the boat back to Northern Michigan). Any pros and cons about the 37 that you could share? Any red flags specific to 37s that we should be aware of as we search? Any insight would be most helpful. Thanks!

    Thanks Brad. Any reason you didn’t use a flexible epoxy to permanently seal to joint? I was thinking Total Boat Theoflex

    • @BradArringtonBoating
      @BradArringtonBoating 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a bunch of reasons actually. I've used a couple of Total Boat Thixo epoxy products and they are great in the right application. Using it as a caulk is not a good application, IMO. The Thixo Flex is really a glue meant for structural applications. Epoxy, even the thickened type, is pretty messy stuff. The types I've used would be quite hard to tool to get a good finish bead. None of the Thixo epoxies dry to a white color that would match the existing gelcoat. The Thixo Flex in particular dries to an opaque light brown that Total Boat calls "buff" - not a good match for white gelcoat. Epoxy is also often NOT UV resistant, becoming more brittle and changes color in sunlight. Total Boat does not state anything about UV resistance, but this is a general property of epoxy. To sum up, seam sealing isn't a good application for an adhesive epoxy.

    Hey Brad, MrsRobinson here, Greg. I'm curious to learn what kind of camera you're using for these videos. As well as how do you edit, what software are you using. Specifically the introduction page as well as when you show text over a video, for example describing what a part is.

    • @BradArringtonBoating
      @BradArringtonBoating ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Greg! I keep it pretty basic and it seems to work for me. I film using my iPhone. I’ve tried using my GoPro and while there are lots of video options, the editing process is cumbersome - at least with what I have. A plus with GoPro is the tons of mounts, but the difficulty in editing outweighs that convenience. For the editing, I use an app called Splice. That lets me edit for length, add the bumpers at the start/finish, and do photo and text overlays. The only thing I wish it would do is support adding arrows/circles etc. when I need that I tend to take a still shot and mark it up using the iPhone native photo app, the use Splice to add it to the video.
