Beginning as a mission and ministry for church staff and volunteers, GENTLE RESPONSE is so much more than just another lecture presentation and slide show! It is a training program specifically designed to help a person develop stress inoculation, muscle memory, self confidence and confidence in other colleagues.
I spent 20 years as a police officer and I am a Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist. My team and I are based in Michigan but travel around the country.
My team and I have worked and trained with staff from a variety of backgrounds and career fields, such as schools, medical facilities, state agencies, churches and other non profits, businesses, law enforcement, security, etc. This training is very applicable, and scenarios customized, to ANY organization that has staff and volunteers who interact with people, and who may encounter a difficult person in a stressful, confrontational situation.

My team and I had the opportunity to work and train with staff from the King's Table Ministries and One Day Niche. Both organizations are amazing faith-based that work with people with special needs!
It was a wonderful day of fellowship and training!

For several years now people have been jumping up and down while ranting and raving about defunding the police and sending social workers to "non-emergency" calls. They actually believe deeply that this is THE solution to reduce and even eliminate violence. I even saw a social worker post a comment after a police officer who shot a teenager who was in the act of stabbing another teen that she c...

Church volunteers need this training. Some have little conflict resolution skills. Some additional strategies are needed when dealing with mental health cases
Yes indeed, I've seen it to many times and unfortunately continue to see it: Good people who mean well and are well intentioned but are the ones who say and do things that escalate a situation! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
😂😂
Id be pressed too tf
I feel him honestly I’d be mad too
Been running peep or ghost ring as some call them for over 10 years love them. I have many guns with a variety of sights big dots etc. I always go back to the peeps and shoot faster and better. 68 been shooting over 60 years and yes my eyes changed. If yours have and you are having issues give them a try you won't be disappointed! Give them a chance there could be a slight learning curve. For me there was none as I have been an archer for years and always shot both eyes open it was very natural. Also if you are cross eye dominant that problem will no longer exist with a peep.
Thanks for sharing and commenting! I don't know if they are still up, but there were some videos of "experts" who clearly had no actual experience with them on handguns and were just poo-pooing the idea of peep sights on handguns!
@@GentleResponseLLC I instruct at a 500 member club with some pretty elite shooters an have converted many of them after they tried them. They are not for everybody that is why there are so many flavors of sighting systems. But they work for me and many others!
Law enforcement needed to be de-escalate and if they can't de-escalate then they don't need to be law enforcement at all well when he asked him to get out of the car and he didn't comply this citizen won 90 million dollars and the officer got fired.? @drobinbarker
Your rewording what you heard .limmer pushed the guy only after the guy pushed first. And this comes from witnesses inside mics.
Yup, doesn't change the fact that inserting yourself as a third party to de-escalate a situation is a mine field, and when you are supposed to be "de-escalating" but end up yelling and screaming you are not "de-escalating" any more but part of all the drama and chaos. You risk getting pushed when inserting yourself into someone elses issue, they are more likely to get upset and focus on you as what happened in this case, and if you decide to push back you get what happened. Very tragic. Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
@GentleResponseLLC you can thank me but your gonna be thanking me twice or more and here's why young man .if every by stander in every portion of this world stood silently with their heads in a hole against social injustices that law enforcement dosent give a second wind about what would happen to thugs bullies tormentors and social trouble makers in the faces of heroes and brave men and women evil never wins against good .because no matter how tough and mean you are there's always gonna be people like limmer standing up for the abused and humiliated and weak in our system and thank God for this .Yes he sacrificed his life everything to lose with this evil man with nothing to lose .I face characters like this everyday and they are in fear of me because of my stance yes I have much to lose and you have nothing to lose but I have an ace in the whole regarding this I can still take the one thing you do have to lose .That's right your life.landry because I'm older then both him and limmer would have never ever got back to his car through experience I would have destroyed that option.
You’re a 💯 correct sometimes there’s nothing you can say that is going to de escalate certain situations. Back off and disengage is the best method.
It can be challenging and easy to find yourself debating and arguing, but that will only escalate things! Just walk away!
I would say yes
I’m super glad they’re okay thanks to your positive teachings ❤thank you
Thanks for the support!
You the man
LOL thanks 😂👍
I normally just vote for my candidate & go on with life but America is at a crossroads & is somewhat divided & it is indeed causing undue stress. We know worrying won’t change a thing yet we do it
Yep, and I'm hoping my post just helps remind someone to just take a deep breath and let it Go, just don't worry about it, and in my own life experience it has never gone as bad as the Doom Sayers always predict it will !
@ absolutely! It is consuming us far too much! What will be, will be we can only do our part. I love that you said be kind. This is huge!
I normally agree with most of your video, however I do believe a whistle can help in an assault situation. I can alarm an attacker and scare them off. Now having said that I’m not saying just carrying a whistle solely is the best protection for defense.
Thank you for taking a moment to comment! A whistle may cause a person who is not committed to the assault to flee, but when the attack has begun, and is a murderous intent like a stabbing, a whistle is not likely to be very effective. There are many, many examples of survivors of horrific attacks talking about how they fought back and screamed with no effect. And there are many confessions where killers mentioned their victims fought and screamed with no effect.
@ There was a slight disclaimer in my opinion.
Mental illness
Great lesson, words of wisdom that even folks in the profession sometimes forget.
Yeah it's an easy trap to fall into! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
I agree there are cases where no word works. I have been in law enforcement for over 25 years and there were times when a person didn’t care what you said.
Yup, and then it's time to do what you have to do and take it to the next step! I see too many officers getting caught in a verbal loop and repeating themselves when it's time to stop talking take it to the next step! Repeating yourself over and over again only makes you more and more frustrated and increases are likelihood you're going to end up doing or saying something that may escalate the situation in a way that costs you your job!
I personally beg to differ. The word "Behoove". When I was a bouncer I delt with a lot. I never used foul language because that makes matters worse. People aren't taught the English language like they should be. Behoove is a reboot word/phrase and drunks do what you ask of them.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing!
Thank you 🙏
You are welcome! 😄
Great stuff I love the ministry mindset. Situational awareness is always a must. I totally agree on how your approach is so important.
Too many situations inadvertently escalated by good people, meaning well but don't know what they don't know! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
Oh no white-haired, you can't take a kid out of school/church behind the parents back. White-haired wanted a 5 minute head start.. Shady!!! White-haired, Good for Mr.Glasses for asking questions, attempting to disfuse the situation.
The staff did a great job handling that scenario! Just some minor tweaking on personal safety tactics like maintaining a reactionary gap.
Great thoughts. Thank you!

Great perspective. The roles we take on always come with a learning curve. Most of a learning curve is useful if we grasp the lesson well. One day or one encounter, may not be survivable.
Have to stay flexible and adapt to what is actually happening, and not what you "think" or are afraid is happening!
This cyclist is a fool! This entitled fool needs a "tune up"... IMO! Utah law states 3 feet minimum clearance is these scenarios.
Boomers strike again 🙄
You all realize the helmet is a cyclist seatbelt & the front fender is the cyclist airbag. Think about it before judging the cyclist over reacted.....why not the driver under reacted? You all know a "Geez, I'm really sorry" goes a long way.
Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
I’m a cyclist, and I see other cyclist do shit that drives me crazy, Also remember 3 feet is not a mile. I’m 6 foot. so if I’m a passenger in a car, just about the point I can slap you on the ass is three feet for a little perspective. That dude was wrong and he’s lucky he picked on a scared kid. If that was me it wouldn’t have ended that way and remember I’m a cyclist also
There's a LOT more to the story than what this shows. Like it or not, what he did was illegal and COULD have gotten himself seriously hurt, or killed. He didn't know what the driver was capable of or if they were armed.
Let's a take a moment and unpack this shall we? Howlong does the driver spend talking about the accident & filing a report? Depending the seriousness, 2/4 hours? A cyclist will spend more time in the emergency waiting rooms (unless injured seriously) during the intial visit. Add fractures and suddenly the cyclist spends approx 1 1/2 hours per visit in the orthopedic office. Minimal 3 visits. Xrays, pain medication, family Dr. for a doctor note, work / insurance proceedures. How about the impact this accident would have on the cyclist family plans, obligations? What if the cyclist knee is broken, or needs to be in a wheelchair for 6 months? Does the 2 / 4 hours of paperwork (including both police , insurance) stack up now? Few people actual unpack what is really going on with respect to a cyclists reaction to narrowingly avoiding a crash. The driver most likely loses a nights sleep, the cyclist may not be able to sleep because of the pain. Yeah, much easier to assign blame, and judge it as a over reaction to the cyclist isn't it?
The video showed the driver passed the cyclist with ample room, and I'm very well aware of the dangers that cyclists have as I have friends and family you are avid cyclist. Thank you for all the unpacking but the point of the video and teaching point is not to let your own emotions cause you to do or say something that will risk your life confronting a stranger. Thanks for taking a moment to comment and unpack! 😁👍
Then go to a bike path and stay off roads that were built for cars.
@@benshelton4528 1- Which non hwy roads were built for cars? 2-The bike paths crowded with dog walkers, joggers, strollers and pedestrians. Those bike paths? 3- Check the rules of the road...its mandatory to ride on the road.
I'm a motorcyclist and I can't begin to tell you how many times my life has flashed before my eyes due to a careless driver. The thing is, it's NEVER wise to chase down that driver to "give them a piece of my mind". Too many people these days carry firearms and are more than happy to use them. None of the "unpacking" you mentioned is worth a damn when you're dead because you approached the wrong person, on the wrong day, for the "wrong" reasons. Especially if you approach them the way the cyclist did and then prevent them from leaving, they have the ability to claim self-defense and you just died for absolutely nothing and now your family won't be able to get the justice they deserve. But go ahead and keep unpacking.
@@stephencavanaugh8377 thanks for taking a moment to comment!
The old fool got startled and wanted to blame someone.
You don't ride, do you?
He really put himself in a dangerous situation!
@@stevemahoney1733 Been riding for maybe 60 years and I don't see were the car even came close to hit the guy.

Keep them videos coming sir ❤we totally need them
Thanks for the support,!
Accidents happen people. Damn
In this case the driver did not pass too close to the bicyclist, and the bicyclist put himself in danger by confronting a stranger who could have become very violent!
@@GentleResponseLLC people need to understand one thing, ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN. All this b.s. road rage has to stop.
Cyclist: "He ALMOST hit me, and now he's trying to leave". Police Dispatch: "Was there an ACTUAL crime committed sir?" (I been riding for more than 40 years. You will NEVER win an argument with a 3,000lb car, and you NEVER want your last life experience to happen while wearing lycra, LOL)
Isn't passing too close a crime? In Canada there is a one meter rule, basically 3 feet.
Yes passing too close is a crime and fortunately the kid had his video running and shows that he even moved left to give the bicyclist room and I even comment on that point in my video.
It's definitely a scary world out there, and it can become scarier if you go and confront an unknown person!
Old man is so lucky that he didn’t get an ass whopping. I live in a rural area and have had close calls but either ignore or sit up and give a friendly wave. Don’t even flip them off anymore. It’d be interesting if he’d pulled up on me, a 59yo guy as opposed to the young man. Willing to bet his aggressiveness would have been less.
Another channel stated he quickly paid his fine, possibly making it so further charges couldn’t be made.
Especially in USA. DONT CONFRONT THE CAR DRIVER.
Yeah, too many crazy people out there these days!!
Thank you 🙏
😆👍
For real don't try it.
That was a wise young man with some good self control. The old man is very lucky that the young man had a lot of restraint. Good on the young man for videoing the encounter and having a dash cam.
Yeah that young man showed an extremely fine tuned sense of self-control rarely seen in young people these days! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
