Hello, orthokeratology involves wearing the lenses to sleep. Therefore, it is extremely important that patients follow doctors' instructions. These instructions include washing their hands prior to using the ortho-k lenses, using the recommended eye drops and right rinsing solutions (Hydrogen Peroxide One Step solution), seeking help right away once the eyes are red, irritated or mucus discharges are in the eyes.... Serious complications can arise if waiting too long, such as eye infections and even possible blindness. This is rare and it can be avoided if patients seek help right away; call your eye doctor right away even when minor irritation arises. Please contact your doctor for individual care and concern. He/ she can be the best contact professional to care and avoid any complications associated with Ortho-K.

Hi Adex, this is a great question! Thank you for your suggestion. Ortho-K and Lasik, although there are some similarities, they are very different. Both allow you to see clearly without glasses. Ortho-K involves using a type of specialty lenses while sleeping and in the morning after removing them the patient can see clearly without having to use glasses. Lasik is a surgery that use laser to "burn" off some of the corneal tissue thereby also changing the shape of the cornea. Lasik is a "permanent fix", change the prescription whereas, Ortho-K is temporary. Ortho-K patients have to wear the lenses every night to see clearly in the morning. The effect of Ortho-K (still seeing clearly) can last up to a few days even after stopping wearing Ortho-K (in some patients). Lasik patients see clearly after the surgery; however, some patients might have changes in prescription and notice blurriness again after a few years. Whereas, some patients can still see clearly even after 10 years of having Lasik. All these different outcome/ results depend on different prescription, eye health, and how patients use their eyes..
