Hot water would wash that glue off in sconds.
Chiseling hide glue is always tough going.
Hello. Piano wood got my attention! We use all piano wood now, even the finger boards. Guitar No. 10 is from 154 years old Chickering grand, very stable and acoustically optimum.
A+ work!
You deserve a lot more views, great work.
Working on it!
Yeah man. I'm a nerd for this stuff!
Hey I checked out the power supply. It seems to be producing the proper voltage at the power connector. I'll have our amp tech take a look at it. Perhaps the cable has an issue? I'll keep you informed. Question: Does the bass function properly on battery power? If so, I think it's likey the cable.
Power supply checks out good. Cord checks out too. Maybe connector on bass or something in the bass...
OK that's some good news. Can I drop thr guitar off for you to check the connection? I'd really like to be running the rig with the ds5
Amazing work. Curious why they did not want a truss rod put in?
Not sure, but I wouldn’t modify a vintage Martin that way. The T-bar seems to work well enough especially if a guitar’s had its neck reset etc. And old wood never seems to need as much adjusting as new.
The neck itself had the right amount of relief and other than having worn frets and wear and tear, it was stable. The problem wasn't the playing surface but rather the angle in which it was mounted to the shoulders. That has a large effect on how high the strings are and how tall the saddle needs to be. As EM indicated, and especially on valuable vintage instruments, it's bad mojo to make such dramatic modifications. I could even ruin the value of the instrument severely. If the neck was severely bowed, in this case I would have removed the fingerboard, installed carbon graphite stabilizers and reset the fingerboard to staighten the neck. Such a repair would be invisible yet restore the instruments integrity.
@@dougmaccormack9485 makes complete sense. I was just curious. You do amazing work!
Thank you for sharing your mastery, great to watch those skills at work 👍
My pleasure!
Love it man great work from what you started with!😊
Thanks a ton!
The epoxy worked so well on the fretboard; I bet when the guitar was restrung you could hardly see the repair, especially from a few feet away. Also a nice compromise for those who might complain that the guitar’s “history” was being erased. It’s still there, but not distracting; those sorts of vanity fretboard inlays can be cool looking but can also be annoying when they’re not where traditional position markers would be. Would’ve been nice to get a couple shots of the finished product.
Good call!
Great work; sometimes you have to do the thing you don't want to do (like saw off the head stock). But sometimes you do what you have to do to salvage a guitar from certain death.
Thanks for the sub! Yes, you gotta do what you gotta do!
5 pin output was for the 5 pin cable which went to the Alembic Power supply. That way you did not need to use the 4 9v batteries, and it also sent the stereo signal through the power supply where you could choose stereo or mono output to your amp.
Fortunately the customer has the power supply and it is operational!
Stunning repair work! Your customer must have been crying tears of joy. I know I would be if I dropped off the disaster you started with and picked up the finished product. Top notch, precision woodworking. First video of yours I've seen and I couldn't hit the subscribe button quick enough!
Wow! Thank you so much! From one Scottish gentleman to another!
I thought I had seen every guitar repair video on TH-cam but for some reason I just came across this, and it is the most impressive of them all! Subscribed. 👍
Wow, thanks!
😮 success or not; You gotta tell this story!
There is a story and it was written by the fire victim herself!
You’re an artist and miracle worker. That was just an amazing and enjoyable video to watch! 🎸 😎
Thank you so much 😀
This must have been a very special guitar . To have it fixed. Looks unfixable to me.
It was the only thing that was recovered from the wreckage.
New to your channel. You are the best . I wouldn't attempt that job kudos to you
Thank you so much! Welcome aboard!
insane!...but was it really worth it ?...I guess I'll wait and see...the video.
The owner lost everything in the fire except this and her life. It's a symbol of triumph and adversity. Sentimental value exceeds the cost of objects sometimes...
Can’t wait for this one!!!
It will take a while but it's coming!

Absolutely stunning. God Bless!
God bless you as well Bruce! Thank you!
You SIR are a MASTER of your craft. I've never watched your channell before but will come back for sure!
Thank you Bruce! Did you subscribe?
Excellent job but I would have went for a black Stinger.
Thanks!
The gorilla glue job was done by a short wide guy with a big round head and no neck,,,,named Tom
LOL!
Doug amazing work. Thank you for the time, commitment and passion you bring
Thanks Jeremy! Thank you for your patronage as well!!!
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Brilliant work. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much 😀

ありがとうございます、とても感謝しています
Yep, that's about my worst nightmare going into an intensive repair of this nature lol. You're right though, Gorilla Glue has absolutely no business being anywhere near a guitar... I don't even keep it in my shop for that matter. The only supply I have is kept stashed away in my basement somewhere, but I'll be damned before I ever allow that stuff in my workshop proper.
They do make other product that are good for other purposes like boat building for example. They make other regular glues but I haven'y tried them.
My old bass. BTW it is a Series I.
OK, good to know. It's a very special instrument for sure!
From a luthier to another: oh, my God! Congrats on that work!
Muito obrigado! Por favor, aproveite alguns dos meus outros vídeos aqui! @dougmaccormack9485
Another beautiful reconditioning! These instruments are OG and well deserving our care. It's living art and cared for will last another 50 years. Maybe longer.
Thanks JB!
Such a steady hand
Thanks. It would have been easier to do horizontally though...
Sorry, but it's really hard to see what you're doing in the later part of the video.
Noted! I'll take more care in filming next time!
I feel silly! I did not know the brand Elmer's made a wood filler😮
They do but it's hard to find. Water based and creamy smooth like peanut butter. Takes color dyes very well.
Sweet Doug!
Joe-E!
This was awesome,thanks for sharing
Your quite welcome!
I remember wishbone ash, how old am I?
The King will come.... :) I worked on a few of Andy Powell's guitars.
This is the exact repair I need to do to my first build. I made the neck too thin and caused the truss rod to break out of the back of the neck. Thank you for sharing it.
That would work! Add a little extra meat around the truss rod nut. Good luck!
Wow! Thank you for chronicling your skill for us.
My pleasure!
Well I finally know an influencer...the "Moderne" job is A-1!
Hey Tom! So glad Dean is happy with it!
Master wood working. Amazing
Thank you very much
Great, job!
Thanks!
Great craftsmanship! Given the problems in removing the neck what do you think had happened to make the action so high, would it have been some movement in the body structure?
Likely exposed to high heat for an extended period of time. Like in an attic.
That's called a Military Connector jack.
Yes. They come in many configurations too. Amphenol is still in business believe it or not! They make many connectors for the military and general public.
@@dougmaccormack9485 Yes, I make custom guitar cords with Amphenol Silent plugs for my customers.
Wow that is a great sounding guitar.
I was very pleased with the sound too!
