Servants and Authority (Homily)
A homily I gave about transforming from servants of sin to servants of righteousness, having ourselves under our own authority as well as God's authority. Centurions, bishops, mask wearing, and obedience are all here!
My first homily delivered during a liturgy.

Oil Vigil Lamps - Set up and Maintenance

Another antiwar clip
มุมมอง 2515 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my first day ever of video editing. Since I feel that the wars we've been involved in have no winners, I decided to dedicate my first attempt to make a video to all of those who have lost loved ones all around the world to war or post-war grief. Please forgive the inadequacies as I begin to learn video editing. Music: T-bone, Too Many Pleitos

    Hey brother in christ. My coals go cold after abt 10-15 mins max (i have a very small incense burner and the coals arent that big. About 4cm radius and abt 2 cm depth) is there a way to make them last longer? And to point out as well, the coal doesn’t become ash. Did i not make it hot enough?

    I have been using crude olive oil (not virgin), and using a small weight attached to one end of the wick to keep the wick straight while embedded in the oil (no holders, just "swimming" inside the oil), and then burning it. This setup in my case lasts 12h with the amount of oil it holds, and requires no maintenance, only when refilling.

    Angel worship rebuke: “Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign. He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah. And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done. He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it Nehushtan.” ‭‭II Kings‬ ‭18‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Here is an object which God instructed Moses to use for good, but once it became an idolatrous object of worship it was destroyed by King Hezekiah (who is known as one of the best kings of Judah) In like manner, even people who are good people become problematic if they become objects of worship. Even angels don’t accept worship: “And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭19‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ If you don’t repent you actually might lose your reward: “Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ The “Head” here is Jesus Christ/Word of God. Repent or pay a severe price. Maybe even loss of salvation

    Can I ask you a question? The wick on my Lampada burns out within half a minute. I let the wick soak for 30mins and did everything you shown us. I am using a Old Rite wick holdering, same wicks as in your video and walmart brand extra virgin olive oil.

    • @OrthodoxRoad
      @OrthodoxRoad ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so sorry you're having troubles. How loose is the wick in the holder? Does it slide up and down super easily? It should be loose enough that it almost falls through with gravity. If it's even a little tight, you may need to remove some strands from it to make it thinner. I have to do that with all my wicks these days. Also, try some regular olive oil (not extra virgin). The regular is thinner and does better with the thicker wicks that are sold nowadays.

      I've never had that happen. Though I did notice that after about seven years there was a spot on the ceiling directly above where I had the vigil lampada hanging. The spot seemed to be from soot and heat and not oil.

    You can actually burn incense without charcoal as well, in a burner that has a candle at its base and an incense holder on top. If open fire catches the incense it will ruin it, but if only the heat of a candle reaches it, the incense will begin to release its fragrance and a bit of smoke, less than with charcoal.

    Thank you for the video, Jeremiah. I have seen some people place foil in their censer to prevent damage being done to the metal. Is this needed? Does the charcoal really do that much damage?

    • @OrthodoxRoad
      @OrthodoxRoad ปีที่แล้ว

      I apologize for the late reply. Foil inside is not something that I've ever done. Unless you have something antique and valuable that you need to keep perfectly preserved, I don't see the sense in it. And if you have something like that, you should probably use a different censer anyway. Censers get sticky resin and other blemishes after a lot of use. To me, it's just part of using one. Like a car, it's going to get dirty. But they can be cleaned periodically.

    How long does 1oz of incense last?

    • @OrthodoxRoad
      @OrthodoxRoad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. It totally depends on how often you burn and how much you use. I have several varieties of incense and rotate through them. Doing that makes each ounce last a few years.
