I own a crosstrek. u guys are just plain thick headed. buy a truck or a jeep for this kind of use
You skipped the hardest part of the install lol
Any reason it won't fit a 13 Impreza? Looks exactly the same underneath
Up the gnarlies breh
Snap 😂
Our 6MT Forester has impressed me on sand and the sketchy forest service roads we have locally.
A Subaru will break way before a tacoma. Taking your sedan offroad. 😂
You are not gonna talk shit about me and my Outback, bro😂
Not the same line at all. Stick to the 3/10 tracks.
It's not about clearance. It's all about wheel base!
About 24" difference between those two vehicles.
'Ramp-over angle' is what you are talking about
I passed SO MANY pulled over jeeps in my outback. If you wanna go, it can!
Then why am I pulling Subarus out of the ditch with my Toyota truck? Asymmetric AWD is less capable than a dedicated 4WD system. Period.
some people dont understand breakover angles, and it shows.
Most pickup trucks are not practical. Bad off road, tiny load beds and noisy and uneconomical on the road. Good for towing but how often do most pickup drives tow? Almost never.
imagine buying a product and then thinking you’re better than other people
That would be very strange and a unhealthy mind set.
Lol the Tacoma could easily make it over that little hump of dirt. What a joke😂
That was what we thought and he thought as well, until he got stuck and needed a Subaru to pull him out. He ego was hurt real bad.
Subaru sitting on relatively mild terrain with a wheel in the air. Haha!
he was obviously egging you on and you took the bait XD
short wheel base duhh
People try and clown my Santa Cruz too lol but the basic fact is that i dont have any differential, shock mounts or transfer case that hangs out for rocks to get. So my lil stock 31s work as well as 33/34s.
100% I drive a Santa Cruz as well and your right. No dangling stuff for things to get caught on. The shorter wheel base is super helpful to compared to some of the wiener dog Tacoma's
Downvoting .. thumbnail placement for next video ruined enjoyment of this one
Never challenge a Subi.
There was a dude in a Chevy that told me turn around because his truck couldn't make it through some mud pit. I was in a Maverick. I was able to get through without any slipping. The difference was I had the proper tires and he was using highway tires. A lot more goes into off-roading than just buying a bigger truck. Even though I was driving a Maverick, I stand by trucks being an abysmal choice for off-roading. Wheelbases are often too long to take advantage of ground clearance. If you must take a truck, get a single cab with a short bed.
Didn't know Crosstrek can do that.. Awesome!
Truck was stock with a bad driver. Probably the worst offroad truck choice - SCSB f150 would be a fair matchup, similar in price too
Yea I'd take the Outback over a Tacoma any day but that's just me
Biggest thing that concerns me is the cvt on the newer ones. I've heard from a few people that they break when off-roading, even lightly. Is there an upgrade for them? Maybe cvt from Ascent swapped into the outback?
I have aggressive off-road a CVT Subaru now for 7 years. I have over 130k miles. Been to 5 different states off-road driving very aggressive trails. The biggest issue is managing heat. The CVT needs an upgraded trans cooler and fan is a + in the really hot climates. Other than that if you keep the heat in check and monitor that aspect. They are very capable. Mine has a locker in the rear diff on 31s and winch. She does everything I want it to do and gets 24+ mpg traveling out on the highway with all my camping gear.
When is this expo? What state is it in? Does it happen every year. Just picked up a 24 crosstrek wilderness and looking for upgrades. Lots and lots of upgrades.
Cute
Took my buddy out hunting on some property in central Texas in my Outback Onyx XT. Went down into a dry creek bed and back out and he was white knuckling thinking we would get stuck. The owner came around in his Kubota and was shocked we were out there, said other hunters with trucks couldn’t make it most of the time.
Is this product for rear suspension as well ?
I love Subaru and know they will go anywhere but take it through something a side by side could do with less effort and less investment.
Yes, it was rough , yes it was gnarly. But that is where we wanted to camp that evening LOL, so we were not going to give up after 5 hrs of trail driving. We were driving our Subarus for 3 days camping and exploring over 500 miles then driving home. Not going to do that in a side by side.
Yeah but the Subaru will blow its engine at 50 k miles after burning a quart every 100. Garbage
I just clicked over 235k miles on my Outback with the original engine. Garbage.
lmao toyota fans cope so hard when they get btfo it's hilarious
That was a very specific year range and it was because they didn’t torque the heads down properly and those years were also popular with the Rice Rocket Tuner crowd. They blew them up by modding and tuning them. Don’t buy those years and you’re good.
Wondering how you feel about the consumer report standings currently 😅
@ considering I have a 2022 Outback, pretty good. Number 1 overall. Years of blown head gaskets are 1998-2004 and most Forrester with the EJ25 Not saying they’re all great, but the one in this video has a high rating and so does my model.
Truck drivers really think they are in a different league than the rest of humanity.
what's the tires name?
Tire McTireface
Looks good... might be best for only a Wilderness only.
Wished subaru had super low gear for these kinda terrains. I dont like to give it the beans and risk breaking things on the trail.
Thats a difference between long and short wheel base.
outback are not shortwheel base lol crosstrek yess
@dieudujambon the video is comparing the outback and taco.
@@dieudujambon smooth brain comment
@@dieudujambon That's great and all, but in the video, which I assume you watched, there is no Crosstrek to be found. The wheelbase on an Outback is around 108 inches whereas the Tacoma is around 132 inches. Thank for providing you opinion, but let's try sticking to the matter at hand in the future.
@@mikemazzantini6397 Also of note is that the Toyota 4Runner's wheelbase is 110 inches, very similar to the Outback and probably would have made that bump. And yes I know there's no 4Runner in the video either, lol.
Amazing…..those are crazy on that trail! No cvt issues there lol. Little mountain goats
I took my stock outback over a mountain on an old trail following a jeep and a tacoma in order to escape Helene in WNC. It made it. Lots of lumps and bumps and stumps but here we are. 💚
Nice
But the Subaru always asks the Tacoma for help moving.
A fridge or couch maybe, but you don't need to move furniture everyday. You may need to drive on icy roads frequently and I know which vehicle I'd choose.
Not if there are any mild bumps in the road.
Nice
I am curious what the total ground clearence is on that outback.
A Subaru Outback Wilderness has 9.5 inches of ground clearance, which isn’t half bad considering a 5th gen 4Runner TRD Pro has like 9.7? This particular Outback has bigger tires which probably give it more. Subarus biggest weakness when it comes to harder off roading is its CVT (notorious for overheating in situations where you’re spinning tires a lot), and lack of low range. If Subaru would give the Outback wilderness a 2 speed t case and a traditional transmission, it could rival, if not a 4Runner, then at least something like a Land Rover Defender (the new one). Edit: he said elsewhere it’s not a wilderness, and a 2018, which has 8.7” stock. It’s on a 3.5” lift here with oversized tires so he’s probably pushing 12” if not 13”. The rest of what I said stands.
This is a 2018 Outback with a factory clearance of 8.7 ground clearance at the rear differential. With the larger tires and lift this 1 is 11.2 as shown in the video. It has been modified more and is now 12.1
The big difference seems to be the shorter wheelbase of the Subaru. Meaning a better break over angle. (i hope that's teh correct english word, not my native language)
@@nirfz break over angle is the exact term in English.
@@backwoodstherapy thanks for the confirmation!
*the elusive keyboard-offroader caught in the wild doing his mating-call* 😆 🤣
Wouldn't X-Mode have gotten the vehicle through this?
This generation of Forester 2009-2013 dose not have X-Mode. X-Mode works well and it would have helped a lot in this case. The locker is far more effective quicker and more instant, also with X-Mode engaged and a locker it is a very formidable combo.
Does locker work with the x-mode?
Yes, we as a company have 8 Subaru models with a Torq Locker and 6 of them have various versions of X Mode they all function and work well with the X Mode.
Nice test and great to see that crosstrek getting through the rock climb…..keep ‘em coming Fantastic! Viva Subaru
