Getting ready for the wildfire season involves a lot of training for our firefighters and staff, such as developing chainsaw skills. Chainsaws are used in many situations like cutting down trees to create a landing pad for helicopters!
Q-400 Airtankers

Airtankers are used to drop retardant or water to help slow down the progress of a wildfire. This year, Alberta Wildfire has increased capacity by adding two Q-400 airtankers to its fleet. Hazard Reduction Burns

Hazard reduction burns are used to remove dry grass and vegetation from around communities. Dry grass is an extremely flammable fuel and removing it helps protect communities from future wildfires. Over 1,000 hectares of land have been proactively burned in the in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta so far this year.
2023 Wildfire Season
