The Harvest List
On Episode 20 of A Homestead: The Series, It's time to do the harvest list!
In this episode,
- We start by having a look at the Grape Garden, check up on how some of the wildflowers are doing and assess what will be ready in time for the wedding this coming weekend.
- Talk about what exactly the Harvest List is! What sort of things go on it, and what categories we break it up into.
- Our blueberries are still producing! We talk about how utilizing permaculture practices allow plants to be more in sync with how they are in nature.
- Head into the greenhouse to harvest some cucumbers for pickles, and tidy up some of the congested beds. Our special helper is cute as all heck!
- The strawberries we planted under the blueberries are NOT living their best life.. While they may be providing great ground cover for the blueberries, they are getting swallowed up and not getting enough sun.
- Our newest garden beds are looking lovely! we are trying some new things out in there and super excited to see how things are going!
- Figured out what those mystery squash were we talked about last episode.
- We were about to enjoy a much needed lazy day... when porcelain problems arise.
- Aleya and myself get to work harvesting the scabiosa starflower seed pods for the upcoming wedding arrangements
- A little side rant about the importance of saving seeds and being thoughtful of native plants and their role in our environment
- Mistakes were made.. feeling down and frustrated. BUT our beautiful viewers came to the rescue and filled up the ol' well of joy.

The "Riesentraube" is pronounced "Riesentraube" 😉 Totally easy: Ries - as in Rees Witherspoon en - as in ant minus the t traube - troube means giant bunch - which seems fitting with the load of fruit they are producing. Crazy Dahlias 🤔🤨🧐😮 MAYBE they want to make new, very crazy varieties - save some seeds and find out if the flowers of of those plants all look like those crazy ones. 😂 Really strange - did they get zapped by frost?

🥰 Everything looks so good, you guys!!!!! ALICE LIVES!!!!!! That snail, though! Guess he needed a car wash....All of the flowers are so lush and lovely, maybe you could sell the oddities as just that...a bouquet of perfect imperfection...!!! I am planning to try to grow some garlic this year(next year?), down south in 7B we are supposed to plant in late October/November. We are starting to get some tomatoes growing, even though the deer ate the tops of them; I truly can't wait to see how many I will get. I have San Marzanos and Black Strawberry cherry tomatoes that have survived the Great Drought of 2024. Of course, now we seem to be getting plenty of rain, after the majority of the garden gave up. It was just too much to start with while working full time, and with a bad back! We do have more ideas on how to improve it for the future, so we shall see. Keep growing on, my lovelies! Peace and hugs to you all!

LOL Theres another channel I found a bit ago, more than farmers, and they have more raspberries than they know what to do with, like a third of a chest freezer full LMAO. I've wanted a homestead in the future for the longest time but it was really only these last few months I started looking up and finding homesteading/farming channels. I'm 22 and things have just felt pretty stagnant since I graduated high school in 2020. Been really motivated lately too look forward and plan for my future, hopefully have a decent job lined up. Just overnight stocking for a grocery store, but nearly $6 more than I'm currently making in a crazy downtown McDonalds. You seem like an absolutely amazing soul to be around! Though your husband seems awesome too of course lol I'm so excited I feel like I'm gonna learn so much from your channel until I have the resources to go help people and learn things hands on! I'm in Oregon so it's also nice being able to see a homstead that'll be a bit more similar to ours climate wise than say a midwestern or southern homestead would be. Also despite what someone else commented I personally appreciate hearing the "foul language" from time to time, it feels more realistic! There's plenty of evangelical or "family-friendly" homestead channels to go around lol Not that there's anything wrong with it of course, I just grew up in the church and left for a reason is all I really appreciate you touching on your personal experiences growing up, I may not know your exact story, but some of what you said resonated with me. I love what you've been able to do for yourself and your healing journey so far. Like another commenter mentioned, your circle also really speaks to my pagan heart as well! I absolutely love the idea and want to incorporate it whenever I'm able to get land some day despite being and organization freak lol, I can find a way to organise a circle! Or maybe that's part of the point is to not be able to organise it, and just plant things where they feel they should go? Hmmm... Either way, thank you! Love thos. You have a lot of knowledge for a "kid". A term which i mean in a good way. I am ancient by the way. Most people say no your not but my body says hell we werent playing. I live way down in Texas where we now only have two seasons summer and a tad winter. Wishing all the happiness in the world.

Thank you! And I definitely still feel like a kid inside! My body though… my body tells me otherwise. I’ve never been to Texas, I bet it’s beautiful! We all thank you for your wishes of happiness! And send so much love your way.

Such a great episode. Thank you for being so authentic and real. Have you reached out to Coors to get Cody a sponsorship? I was unaware people under 70 were drinking banquet beers 😂. Do the mountains turn blue?

Such a cool unique way to be able to spend time with friends for such an important event. Beautiful as always, honestly this one left me speechless and see how much we all need to cherish community. Created a very “Must be nice” moment 😘 …idk if you would get the reference, but it’s a compliment ❤
